Open a bottle of wine with your shoe?

OK-I've got to get better at this technique. Last month we were in DC with a nice bottle of wine and no corkscrew. Tried the shoe method and just couldn't get it to work. So...took the bottle down to the hotel bar where they opened it for us. Proceded back to the room but, instead, got stuck in the elevator for an hour and had to be recsued by the fire department. Going to pay closer attention to this shoe technique because the consequences of not knowing how to make it work are dangerous.

This is old. You can do it in many other ways, with anything soft enough to cushin the hit to the wall, e.g. towel, shoe, rubery material.
