I don't think the songs on this album are bad at all. Considering most rock has gone to the shitter in the past 20 years this is pretty good.
The entire music industry has been overtaken by pop and hip-hop, just be happy good rock artists (though rare now) are still making music.
Personally I don't even think this band should be called GNR, because it's not (and will never come close). I also will agree that Axl could sometimes be a prick...won't stop me from enjoying decent music though.

firstly, it may be "garbage" in your opinion but you dont speak for "the world". the abum was the 14th highest selling of 2008 so its safe to say the entire world is not on board with you.
secondly, the album cost 14 million, not 25 million and there's said to be another album's worth of recorded material left over.
you know, when i first heard this album i had a rather closed mind. no slash? no duff? bah, i said. hearing the album the whole way through i must admit the background music is really very good, not close to the standards of "appetite" and "illusion 1 and 2", but still quite excellent. it's the change in axl's voice that drives me insane. it sounds horrible compared to the vocals on their earlier works. that is why i still cannot support this album
Axl is a lyrical Genius, not to mention his singing. Buckethead and Axl go perfect. I love Slash's style too and he's still my favorite guitarist. This seems such a natural transition from Illusions, and I don't think Slash had this depth in him.

I've always loved the original line up (Duff, Izzy, Axl, Slash and Steven Adler) but things change and people should just accept that.
until now, the "new" GNR have sucked!!! But i bought the album some months ago, and it's really gr8, when you have heard some of the songs some times, you realise that 2/3 of the songs, are extremely good! i strongly recommend buying the album, if you liked the old gnr, this is the closest so far. ;)

The best albums are that way. And this one is deep as hell, cause Axl is deep as hell. Even the original GNR records - you might like them right off, but after years and years of listening, don't you hear all kinds of shit in there than you didn't get earlier on? I know I do. The Spaghetti Incident? is a perfect example. Sounds simple, but there's serious depth. Any music under the GNR banner is timeless.

as for axl being self-consumed etc, he always produced highly personal music. the lyrics of AFD are about things he experienced, people he knew, feelings he felt. same with UYI and CD. you can only honestly produce art about what you know and others may find things to relate.
axl wasnt the only one with an ego in the band. slash has been in 3 bands and each time he has had a falling out with the frontman.

This is the best Gn'R song ever. Sure I miss Slash- but this is an awesome song and it has a beautiful guitar solo in it. I can't wait to see and hear more.

The best albums are that way. And this one is deep as hell, cause Axl is deep as hell. Even the original GNR records - you might like them right off, but after years and years of listening, don't you hear all kinds of shit in there than you didn't get earlier on? I know I do. The Spaghetti Incident? is a perfect example. Sounds simple, but there's serious depth. Any music under the GNR banner is timeless.

rather than compare this album with that of "Appetite for Destruction", try to look at it as a completely different aspect of Axl's creativity and ideas. Yes it's different, some people like it, some people don't. However one cannot say "This is awesome" or "This is awful" as it merely their own opition based on a comparison between Appetite and C. Demo! Feel free to have your own opinion, no-one can judge art. You either like it, or not. End of.

axl owns the GNR name so why shouldnt he use it just because haters like you have a problem? as for the old band's thunder, axl had a LOT to do with it. he has been ranked 7th in the list of the greatest rock singers of all time. he was the major lyric writer and the public face of the band more than anybody else.
several reviews have noted that if the old GNR had never existed, ppl would have been raving about the new band because it is so musically powerful. these are all quality musicians.

they ARE GNR as axl legally owns the name. he has every right to use what he acquired legally. second, he is still a major force and a high quality singer, lyricist and performer. how many frontmen in their 40's made it into that top 10 list? ONLY axl.
read the Roling Stone review, the chuck klosterman and mojo review. to say that these songs have no soul shows your incapacity to appreciate good music. finck's solo on There Was a Time blows away anything slash has done since leaving GNR.

well legally aquiring the gnr name is one of the things that caused them to break up to start with. ill admit that i havent listened to the entire album but thats only because the ones i have heard did NOT impress me at all. axl made the list due to his work years ago....definately not because of what hes doing now. maybe saying they have NO soul is a little stretched but compared to the oldies like november rain, sweet child, estranged, ect. these new songs dont stand a chance

slash admits in his book that there were 6 times the other guys seriously discussed firing axl. he didnt want to get fired so he fought to get the name.
then he tried to keep the others onboard but there were too many diferences of opinion and the break-up happened.
should he have just let them throw him out? i dont think so.

interesting double standard. so if you name your band something other than GNR then you can produce anything and there's no judgment. so axl deserves extra credit for taking on the burden of the GNR name rather than doing the easy thing. you might think CD doesnt live up to GNR standards but most reviews have accepted that axl hasnt let the GNR name down here.
if you shut yourself off and approach the music through hate only as youre obviously doing of course you wont see feeling in it.

actually plennty of reviews have noted that if axl had not used the GNR name, ppl would be raving about how great the musicianship on this album is. being or not being a hit doesnt determine the worth of music. AFD wasnt a hit for the first 8 months or so but that didnt make the music any less powerful.
old GNR fans can keep comparing it to if they choose. ive love the old material but i also love the new band. different people will come to different judgments and thats fine.

as for axl being self-consumed etc, he always produced highly personal music. the lyrics of AFD are about things he experienced, people he knew, feelings he felt. same with UYI and CD. you can only honestly produce art about what you know and others may find things to relate.
axl wasnt the only one with an ego in the band. slash has been in 3 bands and each time he has had a falling out with the frontman.
there was no reason for axl to sit there and wait to be fired.

its funny because CD has been attacked for "not staying true to the GNR sound" but when they DO use a bluesy sound on a song or two, theyre attacked for trying to ape slash.
