@iatepandorasbox lol I'm not? If you looked at my previous comments you would see that I wasn't simply putting her name out there. There was a previous convo to that yeeesh.
Woodstock sounds like a wonderful land I must visit!! Unfortunately, I was born in the early 1990's, so I don't remember Smashing Pumpkins or Nirvana, and the earliest band I remember hearing that had anything new was Guerrilla Radio by Rage Against the Machine. Not only that, but I am growing up in an era of people who worship Justin Bieber and Rebecca Black. What has the world come to?
Ohhh Yeaaah. The Family Dog was headquartered at the Avalon Ballroom on Van Ness & Sutter sts I was told the "light show" was invented there when some sound tech thought of putting a clear bowl of colored water on an over head projector put drops of oil in it and moved it around. If you look at some of those old original videos you can see that "so called" technology......Boy Oh Boy..Platform shoes, bell bottom pants, an Afro with a Nik Nik shirt with a medallion around my neck. What memories!
I will be 60 years old this year and grew up in San Francisco. Graduated in 1969 and even though this is Woodstock I remember listening to all of these bands in Golden Gate Park. I was helping my grandkids with a history projet about the 60's and wanted to show them some stuff on You Tube and boy am I having a huge flashback...Jeff, Creedence, Sly, Country Joe and the Fish. Zep..I gotta go in my storage bin and pull out my albums...
@Cabque Can you tell me if the Family Dog (Chet Helms's organization) had a fixed location in SF? There's a Youtube video of the Grateful Dead playing "China Cat Sunflower" at The Family Dog. Where was it? Thanks.
@Cabque 61 yr now and listening to her - them - right back. Good times, bad times, drama times and wow, who'd know it would be such history. I'm writing a (another) novel that takes place in the City & also researching some details. This song is part of that. Mission High.
wow...it's almost 6am and they're already stoned lol xD i love it xD. i would give anything to be alive at the time of Woodstock! i wouldn't care if i was surrounded by people having sex (well that might be uncomfortable) or doing drugs, i'd be too focused on the music anyhow xD this is real music. everything from the 60's-early 90's was good music :) then the 21st century came..... :P
@canon21100 Your right...it was a morning show. Woodstock was 24 /7 non stop drugs, music and sex.Look at marty Balins eyes....higher than a kite were most of them , most of the time. I was a senior in college then and everybody that could make it went to woodstock ny for that orgy of the mind, soul and body. , a once in a lifetime event.
All i can say about that whole generation is that they were hypocrites!
"make love not war" turned into "greed is good" in less than 20 years. Their parents were part of the greatest generation and they became the worst generation.
Fuck the hippies. They crashed and burned after '67. Those of us who actually went to Vietnam (and were lucky enough to have survived) were partially at least, kept going by this kind of music. We listened to the Airplane on our transistor radios and even our aircraft ADF's on AFVN or even better, on our reel to reel tape recorders in our hooches. Great times...shitty war! USMC HMM-263 1970. Marble Mountain.
@pbrick6301 if it wasn't for hippies you would probably be far more brainwashed than you obviously are right now. And if you think for a second that being "courageous" helps out anyone but the powerful elite you are (seriously) misguided. No disrespect prick6301 , we all have lessons that need to be learnt.
DOB 9/12/1968. The whole "Peace Love Anti-Establishment" hippies of the 60s turned into the yuppie movement in the 80s. I remember a story in Rolling Stone in 1989 with Jerry Garcia talking about how much he liked his new 750il BMW. The music was great, The theory was bullshit.
this modern american culture of the 00's has been desolate...the great artists are hiding in the background, the drive is more and more fake and materialistic, everything revolves around consumerism...
I hope the 10's are drastically different and we find new reasons to make this world and our lives better
How can something be so cool for so long? And almost nothing from before the 60's (and nothing at all that I can tell before the 50's) was considered cool long after, or today!
@scalatorino hippies saved your ass from being totally taken over by political interests. but the threat is back and the hippies of today are a mere shadow of the 60's peace movement. i do still have hope that a non violent revolution is currently underway and will bring the people back to power.

At the start, did she say "you've seen the heavy gooks?" I'd have thought Jefferson Airplane would be a bit more sympathetic to the Vietcong. Still I'll forgive her, shes sexy. That "just rolled out the peacewagon" look really does it for me
Grace was amazing. I remember seeing her on Ed Sullivan. She stood completely still, and belted out the music with fire. But having great talent is different from being a great person.
a smile leads to a laugh a laugh leads to a high 5 a high 5 leads to a hug a hug leads to a kiss a kiss leads 2 a finger a finger leads to a hand a hand leads to a lick a lick leads to a suck a suck leads 2 a fuck.right after u read it, something good will happen at 2:25 tomorrow. Notice the composition of the music from this period. Many had attended Juliard (Chicago) and many had a classical background. The music was "musical." I heard a guitar player from a current popular band being interviewed on a radio show who admitted that he only knew 3 basic power chords. Screaming over 3 chords about sums up much of the current music today. It is different for the sake of being different - but has very few vocal harmonies and has little to no musical composition.
@privatetvtrog1 Thanks. . I didn't know that . . the same could be said of the Beatles . . and many others. But somehow melody and composition were alive back then. . and again I am showing my age. . but I do not hear the same thing happening today at the same level as it was when I was in my teens. (I was able to see most of the bands of the era in California in my latter teenage years).

against the status quo. Look at Grace she has fire in her belly. We lost the last greatest president JFK. Then DR. King, then Bobby. We lived hard,(drugs)loved hard, because at 19 years of age alot of us died in Veitnam.
Make that the early-50s. I was born in the mid-50s and was still too young to really appreciate most of the 1960s as a decade. Fortunately for me the mid-1970s were sensational and in some respects, I believe, resembled the late-60s, though the mid-70s fashions were more flamboyant. Of course, no one in the 60s would have thought it possible to be any more flamboyant than what they were at the time.
Regarding when one would have had to have been born to have enjoyed the 1960s: on second thoughts, I'm thinking that even the early-50s would have been too late. I think those born in the mid-to-late-40s most probably enjoyed the 1960s the most.
I was born in 61, and yet only very vaguely remember hearing Beatles, Airplane, Hendrix etc on radio. Music TV was NOT what it is today - far from it. We were lucky if there was anything remotely good on our Once a week "Top of the Pops" half hour.
Of course, the "Old Grey Whistle Test" had great live bands on, but I had to be in bed before it came on. I was 9 when Jimi and Janis died, so I was hardly a swinger. Maybe you want to review your wish a little. 1947 would be ideal. :-)
Holy shit, I wish I was around back then. 1989-2008 have sucked compared to stories I've heard and the music back then. And they're all blazed hardcore, which is sweet. :)
showed up to grace in st gorehausen germany and she was sick, so the germans just tore up the whole stage and equipment, so she is that good to piss some folks off is she isnt around to play,,, good job gracie
You were not born in the wrong decade. Neither was I. We have got Terence Mckenna's words of wisdom. Listen to his speeches on the Internet and travel to the psychedelic truth that embraces the sun and filters through the clouds of our minds in the form of permanent happiness.HolaGoodbye21.

Holy shit, I wish I was around back then. 1989-2008 have sucked compared to stories I've heard and the music back then. And they're all blazed hardcore, which is sweet. :)
