Just drove my first Hybrid yesterday. I currently own a 2005 Corolla that gets 35 mpg. I bet that if we put my Corolla engine into this Hybrid body it would get 45 mpg and perform like a racecar. If we use an equally performing smaller gas engine into it, I bet we'd get 60mpg or better. So why are we buying 50mpg Hybrids? It's a complex machine that will have very costly maintenance; also consider the problem of improperly disposed of batteries. GE will make a lot of money with this sham.
I wonder if the G8 will sell better as a Chevy Caprice...hmmm. I hope they get rid of the tacky faux hood scoops when they rebadge it though. Perhaps they could bring us the long wheel-base version as a new Buick Roadmaster or Park Avenue? Just an idea.
GM should make the G8 into a Chevy. Or they could introduce Vauxhall into the states with the VXR8 as the replacement for the G8 while starting up the Monaro again to replace the GTO or the G6 GXP.

You're right narror. While they're both built on the same chassis architecture, the Caprice is a longer-wheelbase car. The Lumina, G8 and Holden Commodore are all basically the same model. It's not clear whether Bob Lutz meant the larger Caprice would come to the US, or if the current G8 would be rebadged as a Caprice in the US. We tend to think it's the latter.
Installing an electric motor with an engine like the high-revving K20's would actually do TWO things: besides letting the motor do less work and save gas, it also adds additional low-end torque traditionally lacking in such engines

first off, GM doesn't produce a "Hemi". so i'm confused as to why you keep bringing that up.
secondly, the Converj is based on the Volt. which in turn is based on the Delta II platform. the Delta II platform is a FWD platform, and there is no V8 that has been put onto that platform.

thats how it was I do believe during the last rear wheel drive generation of rear wheel drive Impalas/Caprices the police cars are typically called the police interceptor at the moment I don't recall whether that is just what calls the Crown Vic police version

I know the original Caprice was a sportier model, but the last one sold here was a rather dumpy 4-door. I would imagine, since most of the Caprices still on the road are those 4-doors and station wagons, that they are the ones young people are most familiar with.

Interesting Honda CR-Z deal. Its front has a tad of aggression. Just not sure about a huge, mega-displacement Honda like at 1:28, though. Let me tell you something... GREAT news for that G8! That car is (to quote British types) sex on wheels even if to be re-badged as a Chevy. Reincarnation for the win! :) Mark Webber took pole and won. I'm damned proud of him. The 300SL is an all-time classic car. This reincarnated (if you will) 300SL looks great. You all at FLD take care!

There is no need for you to apologize. The title itself says Aussie F1 win. There is only 1 Australian F1 driver so even a nimrod could have figured that out. You didn't reveal any spoilers people wouldn't have already known by the title.
Besides, people are a little too hell bent on the "spoiler". Get over it, if you really don't want to find out, avoid news sites. Fast Lane daily brings it fresh, its your own fault.

Personally, i think the Holden commodore looks alot better than the GE. Just from one Australian's opinion. When i first saw the G8 i thought they ruined it.

As far as I know BMW and Merc only have one wagon a piece, and the BMW wagon is being cut because of poor sales, as was the Dodge Magnum.
CTS wagon would be a bad move.

the BMW 5-Series Touring isn't being axed. its only being replaced here in the US by the ugly 5-Series GT. Europe will still have the 5-Series Touring.

I'm all for making the G8 a Chevy, but calling it the Caprice?
I know the original Caprice was a sportier model, but the last one sold here was a rather dumpy 4-door. I would imagine, since most of the Caprices still on the road are those 4-doors and station wagons, that they are the ones young people are most familiar with.
Is it really a good idea to give a youth-oriented sports model a name that most young people associate with 'old guy' cars?
What's wrong with the Aussie name? Commodore?

Which itself was actually based on that dumpy last generation Caprice I was talking about, but yeah, still badass. I'd like to own one of those someday.
It actually probably is going replace the Impala in the line-up (regardless of what they call it), if they're still going to sell it as a police car like they had planned earlier.

I meant they could call it the Chevy Commodore. They were considering it at first, when they began talking about selling it as a Chevy.
And I totally agree with you about the Holden version looking better. I've been to Australia, and I fell in love with Holden and Ford of Oz's coupe utes while I was down there, which is why I was looking forward to the G8ST.
The first "Chevrolet" Commodore test mules looked a lot more like the real deal, and I hope the production versions do as well.
