This Song is Horrilble, sorry guys......listen to Hemispheres, 2112, P waves or Carress of Steel..Please!... This song and era of Rush is an Embarrasment!
I'm goin see Rush for the first time this summer (I'm only 15) and I really wish they'd play either this or Manhattan Project. Oh well, can't wait to go. It'll be great none the less!
God I hate the sound of that fucking piece of shit Wal bass. Glad he got rid of it. As Geddy says "not a good rock bass" I prefer the Ric and then the Jazz.
Completely agree with Availablelight1. Same exact experience for me. Hold Your Fire was a big part of my teenage years. It was also the album that turned me into a Rush fan. It's still my favorite album of theirs with Time Stand Still being my favorite song of theirs.
Hold Your Fire was probably THE seminal album of my late teenage years... along with Signals and all of the other 80's RUSH albums. I hate that so many fans wrote them off in this period. The Guitar work was f***king brilliant... My biggest influence by far as a player of 27 years. These albums were so emotionally and spiritually charged... very coming of age. The production was a little thin, but the live shows were amazing... Thank god they released "A Show of Hands".
It's been my favorite for many years. I don't find it to be the "perfect" Rush album, because the songs turned out way better live than in the studio, but the songcraft, ambiance, and lyrics from HYF are amazing.
But again...trying to pick a favorite Rush album is hard. I love them all (from every era) for different reasons, depending on the mood I'm in.
I agree, I actually call HYF my favorite album because it was so different from the rest of their stuff, especially at the time.
Picking my favorite Rush album is hard, indeed, but HYF is the one I would pick with many albums being close seconds, in my opinion, but I truly can't pick my favorite song from Rush, but I love 'em all, so you know I can proudly keep it at that :P
it took me a while to figure out this one by rush.... I love their lyrics... : )
"Prime Mover" is about the stage crew and the working on, around and about performing on stage. One day I was listening to it and it just hit me.... does anyone else come to the same conclusion?
Rush drummer/lyricist Neil Peart is a big Twilight Zone fan. This shares the title with a famous Twilight episode # 57. Jimbo, who runs a cafe, has psycho-kinetic powers and when his partner Ace Larsen (Dane Clark) discovers Jimbo's power would allow him to manipulate dice, they head for Las Vegas. The pair win big, but Ace cannot stop gambling, despite the pleas of his girlfriend Kitty (Christine White) and Jimbo, who cares more about his friend than all the money in the world.
yea i argee completely i didnt realize it til i saw ur comment but prime mover does mean center of the universe which would be the stage crew in rushs world when there on tour. they make everything happen and nuthin would be in motion if it werent them settin up everyhing and makin everyting turn and the anything could happen part is talkin about when there on the road for so long
You just don't Ged it, do you? I adore Rush. Use your abacus subtraction to add the two and the three to make it a proud high in handful of fingers. Geesh, you're forcing my show of hands! To date, 14 times seen them live. Therefore, a memo to a higher office: Dear Judge... I the jury!
that's what these 3 guys do to listeners(like my self)they give you goosebumps they get you emotional and tears of joy, nothing has moved me like rush does!i love these guys.cut my veins and rush will come out of them.!!!!!!!!
I love this song. By far the best on Hold Your Fire (though all that album is pretty much top material), and probably their best since anything on Moving Pictures.
wow it's been that long since "I asked the man who stood at the gate of the year....give me a light so that i can tread into the darkness" , congrats on the malignant Grammy nomination and the 2008 tour for narcissistics.
I've been a huge Rush fan since 1975, my Rush addiction borders on insanity.
