I'd like to add that most younger students don't yet realize how important the 2nd and 3rd chair positions are. They assume that the only reason someone is sitting 2nd or 3rd chair is because they're not as good as the 1st chair players, when in fact, all positions are equally as important. Hopefully this system will allow lower position players not only to develop better skills, but also enable them to take every bit as much pride in playing 2nd or 3rd chair as the 1st chair players do.
This book wasn't in existence when I was in school. In fact, the author might not have been born yet. It definitely sounds like an excellent resource though.
I was fortunate to have a wonderful band director who knew how to teach students how to prepare for auditions and performances, but I'm sure something like this would have made his job much easier.
