I am from the Irish Collins family we have a crest on the island with ancestors living an dead an i am proud of my heritage an our music . Long live the Irish!!!!!!!!!1
Ahh tis the passion the call in us Irish that we have this sense of belonging and a need totouch the Homeland, no matter where in the world we are. Chun an grana heireann! :)
Not to get a rise or troll youtube, but I don't understand when people are saying 'Oh my relative is from X country, that's my home country'. My grandmother is Irish on my mum's side, while my mother was born in Scotland and my father is English. I could claim any of these to be my true 'home land', but I'd be lying - My home is with my family and my partner. Country is irrelevant; it's who you're with that makes your home.
I maybe only half Irish but my whole life i've wanted to go there. During my summer in '13 i plan to spend it all there and if possible go to college there.
Beautyfull music, I want tou buy you the sheet music for the whistle and the guitar, cuz I want to play this at weddings, and i will give all the credits to you, is this posible? thanks in advance.
You can force your will upon us, You can burn our homes, You can forbid our practices, You can strike us down, You can remove us from our natural surroundings, but, You will NEVER take our heritage, our knowledge, or our spirituality. You will NEVER come close to hurting our pride, You will NEVER keep us down, For we shall ALWAYS rise above, WE SHALL NEVER FORGET WHO WE ARE FOR OUR ROOTS LIE WITHIN US ALWAYS AND FOREVER!!! EIRIDH TONN AIR UISGE BALBH!!! EIRE SE LINN!!!!
Such a beautiful sound and a beautiful country , I'm an Irishman living in England and hope to go back to live there someday , just learning the Tin Whistle and tracks like this are an inspiration. Murph , Stafford UK
This is the most beautiful song ive ever heard. Where can I find sheet music or notation for this song. I have a tin whistle but Im just learning, so i dont know all the Accidentals yet.
I think the Celts and the Irish got around a bit and it's in a lot of peoples DNA. So when you hear this it's just your DNA letting you know where you originally sprang from. Buried deep in you. It's your ancestors calling. Isn't that just a nice thought?
funny thing im brazilian and this kind of music always meant something to me,when i was already 25 i´ve found out that my grandfather family was welsh
Yes a lot of Welsh were encouraged to settle in Argentina and Patagonia and so built up communities there (Gaiman??) You should come to your ancestral home for a visit!
Make sure you visit Angelsey (it is an island joined to the mainland Wales by the Menai bridge). It was the last stronghold of the Druids. The Romans invaded and in one night wiped out all the Druids and burnt their oak trees which they worshipped.
Their is an ancient stone village called Din Ligwe (quite hard to find but worth a visit)
One of my favourite places on earth. I love the story of the Druids. They call in my DNA!!!
@acechadwick couldnt agree more with that, Im English born and bred but ive always had this feeling that if i trace my family (Downes's) back far enough theres going to be Irish/celts somewhere in there, I have a relative whose scottish, and another whos an O'Grady, obviously Irish, but hes english, the only none English one in my immediate family was my gran who was Polish, so no direct Irish, but everytime i hear music like this or see related imagery i somehow feel a connection.
You know the English are descended from the Britons, the ancient Celtic people of pre-England Britain. When the Germans came to Britain, they interbred with the indigenous people, the Britons, which resulted in the Anglo-Saxon English. The only true Britons left would probably be the Welsh people. Then you have the Irish Celts, which are still pretty pure. The Scottish are descended from the indigenous Celts who mixed with the Scandinavians.
@redSG whole Europe its mixed up and the celts was all over in old wold, you can find today ppl in serbia with celtic roots, southern germany, swiss and austria too. Maybe the celtic blood is strong and thats why so many ppl love thise music. I belive in it because i feel so.
@SkiMaster300 I get what ya mean man. I am Irish too. As me Irish grandpa always said "It's not where ya born that matters but where your heart is" My heart and soul is wit Ireland, not of America, I have no connection here and don't belong. I miss my home.
I dont want you to take this offencifly because i do not intend that. When I listen to mournful music like this i can only think back on the peoples who suffered and that provokes an emotional responce,I think thats why that person wrote what he wrote.Either that or he just writes it everywere lol.Anyway this music is for all to enjoy,so enjoy

I have irish blood in me and I am hoping to go over there in the near future.I am going to start to play the tin Whilstle and this song has really inspired me to do it. A lot of people dont understand what it is to be irish unless of course they are irish, listen to the tunes that are played and then deep down you will know what it is to be irish. "dílis i gcónaí"
Anach Cuan is the village of Annaghdown in Co Galway. In 1828 a boat called An Caisleán Nua (The Newcastle) set off from Annaghdown to a fair in Galway City. There were 31 passangers and 10 sheep on board as well as other items for sale at the fair. When they got to within 2 miles of their destination a sheep A sheep stamped a hole in the floor of the rotten boat and it sank in minutes. 19 drowned, 12 survived. This song written by Antaine Ó Raifteirí recounts the tragedy.
the tune is called Anach Cuan, although I have seen many different spellings. the song name comes from a small village in Ireland where a boat sank in the 1800's, drowning more than 20 people. the Gaelic lyrics tell the story, and the tune wonderfully conveys the heartbreak of the tragedy.
So beautiful, thanks for sharing!
