  • I like the true versions lyrics. of course elvis could have never sung the song as written. he had enough problems because of his body movement at that time.

  • Your year is incorrect..... Not 1958, Smiley's version was issued in November 1955.

    A great track!

  • @281kerrie THANK YOU.

  • Fats who?

  • Just as good as Elvis' version.

  • best version

  • @hah13 ..it's my pleasure..

  • Happy Birthday to Mr Smiley Lewis!!...on the anniversary of his birth!

    Thank you for this upload.

  • Great, no other word for it

  • @EDDIEJAMES238 IT'S MY PLEASURE AND THANK YOU..

  • Actuallyreleased in 1954

  • Mastered a little too hot for the youtube audio... this is cleaner on your CD, but thanks for getting it up!

  • great, great, great, it's only a pity that the man himself never had the success with songs like this that he deserved, he was the wrong colour at the wrong time

  • My God it is stunning! I've always liked Elvis' version, but now I can see why Elvis was so turned on by the music that was being sung down there and back then.

  • Whew, scandalous! Too bad they were so nuts in the 50's. He's not extolling whatever it is that he did..he's saying it was bad, but TPTB had to censor it in the 2nd Elvis version.

This is awesome. Never heard the original before and it's nice to "meet" the man behind "Blue Monday"...an all-time top classic hit. Thanks for posting.

  • @AnitaLife27 thank you for your comment,

  • @AnitaLife27 The only censor was Elvis himself who rewrolte it with more acceptable lyrics.

  • @changing3 but he also respected it enough to re-record it with the correct lyrics too.....

  • The original version and in my opinion the best. Classic New Orleans stuff

  • @dakarlion1 thank you for your comment,

  • actually released in late 1954...still a great r& b number

  • Yeah - I remember Smiley. He was one of the greats. He's no longer with us, but his talent is forever.

  • Got to love that lazy New Orleans rhythm!

  • There's only one word to describe this performance that will suffice, and that is.. legendary.
