I have only 7speed and when on read Derailleur i put 6 or 7 speed and on front Derailleur in smallest or middle it hit front Derailleur little but i have on front Derailleur some H and L what i have to do (Adjust H or L) THX

  • Very, very, very well explained, this technician rocks, he explained it easy for anybody to understand, others I watched make it complicated, but not this guy...Great Job.

  • @julioenriello Good camera angle too. Some videos don't even bother zooming in.

  • Ok, so my lower limit screw is all the way loosened, and the derailleur is touching the frame on the inside still. Help!!

  • Helps a lot! Thanks bro!

  • Nice video. It explains things other videos skip, such as when to tighten the tension and what the start position of the adjustment barrel should be. Thanks!

  • sniffles sniffles. poor guy had to do a video with a flu. lol

  • WOW Thank you for the advice!

  • Awesome Tips. Thank you

  • Thanks for that, you explained it very well although i didn't understand why you loosened the cable tension when adjusting the lower limit and not the upper limit.

  • Great video. Didn't over complicate it. Now my bike shifts right again. Thanks

  • Sorted the problem, excellent, better than other really vague tutorials, the difference is.......this one has information, and it's correct....thanks again.

  • stop snifflein!!! blow yur bloody nose mate !!!!!

  • Awesome guide bro.. Got ma gears running smooth again :P

  • Very good tutorials for front and rear derailleur adjustment! Thanks!

  • Great tutorial! One of the best on the net! Thanks!

  • What happens when this doesn't work on a walmart bike...

  • @mortaltirant buy a NEW bike...not from walmart.

  • @mortaltirant return that excuse for a bike. I just did last week lol.

  • Thank you so much!

  • I watched the videos for both the front and back systems, got them adjusted, now I can shift all my gears again. Thanks for the great instructional, very helpful and accurate.

  • WOOT 666,666 VIEWER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Fantastic vid...I just bought my Genesis V2100 MTB from Wally World...Of course it wasn't put together right...so I had a few minor adjustments to make; including the front deraileur. Took me about 20mins longer than this video but its riding just how I like it!

  • Quick and precise! Perfect! Thanks

  • love the Santa Fe instructional videos. They are very well explained. Next time, give the buy the day off when he has a cold ;-)

  • Awesome video, I've just installed my first ever front derailleur thanks to this... It works perfectly too!

  • Great vid, thanks for uploading

  • easy for him his bike already works

  • excellent tutorial, nice job and THANK YOU VERY MUCH FOR SHARING YOUR KNOWLEDGE!!!

  • Clear instruction, thanks for this

  • easiest way is just buy a new bike and dont mess with it

  • @xfilesmanson brake and gear cables stretch so you're going to need to mess with it as some point. Or ride a brakeless fixie :P

  • thumbs up!! fixed my bike!

  • I still cant get it right. 1st gear is perfect but 2nd still grinds against the derailleur and i cant shift up to 3rd.

  • @kingofgreen1 this is the same problem I'm having... did you ever figure out how to fix it?

  • Thanks Dave , You are very helpfull. Congratulations !!!

  • great help thanks

  • Wow that was a great help. Thanks!

  • After watching a few videos on this subject, I found yours one of the clearer and easier to follow, even with your sniffles :P

  • my name is paul ellis mwhahahaha i am the king of bikes

  • what in the world did we do before youtube had these nice tech tips?! thank you...YOUTUBE ROCKS! pretty soon there will be do-it-yourself brain surgery video tech tips! first, make sure the brain cogs are all aligned...then, uh...(sniffle)...grab your skull hole drill...then, uh...(sniffle)...but, before you start drilling...(sniffle)...

  • @diamonddave247 judging by the mess I'm likely to make on my bike I don't think that's a great idea. Thanks for the vid though, it'll keep my junk bike going a bit longer.

  • An excellent video. I'd been trying to adjust the front derailleur on my wife's old Cannondale hybrid, but I couldn't get it right. This video made all clear, very useful. Thanks Dave!

  • Going to try this out right now. thanks man.

If it doesn't work.... *shake fist* (kidding, thanks for the run through).

  • Thanks Dave!

  • Nice video; very clear presentation. Thanks.

  • is he saying bigger cog or cock?

  • Thank you Dave!

  • Well, I can say that my front derailleurs has been my problem! Very difficult to adjust.. I have followed 2 or 3 videos from YT, but even doing this is shifting very smooth..

  • Thank you sir

  • great videos guys always the best on youtube!

  • I made everything worse! Bike can no longer shift to the highest gear on both front and rear. WTF!

  • I,m gonna do one of these demos but I,m gonna fart a lot.

  • how muck does the derailleur move when adjusting your limits. do i need a new derailleur if it doesnt move?

  • blow your nose man

  • My new bike, bought on the internet, wasn't set up correctly. I tried to set it up based on instinct and 40 years of messing with mechanical stuff, but got in a mess and ended up with it not working at all. Watched this video and went back out to follow the technique as described. It worked well and I had my gears are changing smoothly. Many thanks, you saved my me from hours of frustration and paying a dealer to sort it out.

  • why do we have to screw in the barrel adjuster on the shifter all the way in (this means we are tightening the tension yeah?)??

  • @CaptainAndrewWiggins no it leaves you room for tightening once the cable stretches especially when new!

  • Its good but he should have written a script or something to follow the steps instead of having to back up constantly. Still and all, a simply taught lesson. Credit for being helpful.

  • wow dude...

  • "now, that i am now on my biggest COCK, what i need to do is CUM down on my smalles COCK"

i am too pervert minded -_- HAHA

  • do u adjust the H and L if the chain touches the derailleur?

  • @BillieJean900 I'm no expert but I think you would, he said you need a gap of ~2mm.

Nice video though, much better than what "experts exchange" had to offer!

  • this video really did help me out. thank you

  • I'm not quite clear on what he means at 2:15. Does that mean loosening the cable again and then adjust the screw?

  • @bleeah i think he means the actual fixing the derailleur has on the bike frame itself. on mine it's an allen bolt that you losten and you can just move it up the frame slightly to give the clearance he's talking about.

  • So I gave this a go, but I just made it worse.. :(

  • Thanks for this very helpful video

  • Great video! Straight forward and to the point. Too bad you have to deal with 30 complainers who can't follow basic instructions.

  • Good stuff! Helped me tune up my Trek hybrid.

  • thanks for this very helpful video! great work! and no, i dont have the EXACT same bike but you have given me the basics.

  • there's no setting up here they were already set up.

  • what do you mean two clicks out?

  • @sh4p3shifter I was wondering that, as I'm sorting out a mates bike that has sat rusting in a shed for 8 years and the front derailleur is totally out of adjustment. I guess that once you have turned the adjuster barrel all the way in, give it two turns back. This will give you some room to perform fine adjustment either way to align the derailleur.

  • very nice but how i remove my front derailleur

  • WOW great video saved me some money was going to take bike in cos I was all like the fuck I know how to set gears. But now I can cheers mate thanks

  • Thanks dude

  • "now that i've done that (arrrghh)" 3.39

  • so my front derailer wont shift from the smallest cog to the middle cog it barley misses then falls back to the small cog but after like 3 tries it makes it to the middle cog then the largest cog fine so how would i properly adjust this

  • this help me a lot man!!

  • This just fucked my bike 10 times over!

  • 29 people own bike shops

  • @gvonderau 33. :)

  • my rear cogs wont go into the biggest cog, what does that mean? im a noob. probably have to take it to a shop :(

  • wow, that is easy. thank you man, i learn that. i di it, and is working good. 10x

  • made it crystal clear for me ... thanks for such a nice video!

  • hi! i have a hardtail MTB and i want to use it fo Downhill trails , what are the components do i need for my bike? thanks

  • @olivernapolitano if your really looking to get into downhill you have to get a downhill mountain bike, hardtails are not built for the abuse that riding at high speeds downhill dish out, also youll have a much better time if your riding a true downhill bike

  • also if you find the screws doing nothing or not moving the derailleur to where you need it to eg: the chain rubs on the derailleur in some gears, make sure you dont forget about the barrel adjuster. if you give that a couple of turns making the cable tension tighter, it can give you that bit extra that you need

  • 27 people are bike mechanics in crisis :D

  • 27 people are bike mechanics in crysis :D

  • Thanks for the great video! Very helpful!

  • Great video! The only issue I had was adjusting the high adjustment screw. With my chain In the biggest chain ring, turning the high adjustment screw did not seem to make a difference at all (my chain was rubbing, the deraileur needed to go out farther). Turns out that I had to move the chain back down to the little ring and then back up to see the adjustment take hold. How it's perfect! (I have Shimano 105 components)

  • your the man. thanks!

  • can anyone help please ive just bought a new bike, the cage of the front derailleur keeps catching against the pedal when put into the toughest gear. help ive tried fixing it but dont have a clue, ive tried moving the two little screws and repositioning the whole FD.

  • Thankyou so much. Great Vid, saved me £25 on a service!!!

  • Thanks, definitely cam in handy tonight!

  • This is the best video for adjust the derailleur that I have seen so far. Thank you so much!

  • Strange but it seems no one is interested in E type derailleurs!? There's absolutely no videos about dealing with its problems or even adjusting or installing one!

  • Thanks for mentioning all of the little details other videos assume you know.

  • good video. but instructional videos need to be step by step... not "but before you do this"

  • Thank you soooo much! I thought I broke my husband's bike... it just needed an adjustment. You just got me out of the dog house and saved me a butt load of money! :)

  • I love you random bike guy Ive watched many many videos and they all suck hardcore...You have helped much!

  • great tutorial mate, thanks a lot!

  • Thank you.

  • Too bad the guy didn't blow his nose before shooting this.

  • @docstrange2k Too funny! Sounds like he swallowed a loogy, but he knows his s***!!

  • Nicely explained. Good stuff.

  • AMAZING VIDEO!!! EXTREMELY CLEAR AND HELPFULL! My derailleur shifts amazing now. Very nicely done 10/10

  • how do you fix the guide under the cranks, its like plastic, mine broke so now it doesnt pedal cuz the derailur is all fucked up

  • Shame the quality is so bad it's hard to see what you are doing half the time.

  • Nice to hear that North American accent say Millimetrrrrrrrre

  • i need to learn this crap. i hate having to go to the bike shop for constant tuning.

  • nice work

  • This is incredibly helpful, thanks!

  • cheers dude! every day is a school day ...

  • Awesome! Cheers dude. I had accidentally adjusted mine. had no gear change upto large cog at all! Now FIXED!!

How often do you need to adjust it? my bike has only done 500-600miles and the bolt securing the pedal and front cog set was really loose!?

  • @MrToddfishy i do check mine every time i use my bike,it takes only few minuts to check if it is all good, then if is not i just follow what that guy said in the video, more you pratice more you learn how to adjust to ride smoothly.

  • Awesome! Cheers dude. I had accidentally adjusted mine. had no gear change upto large cog at all! Now FIXED!!

  • my chain is rubbing the front derailler when its on the biggest front cog...what do i do? its a road bike.

  • this is the best deraileur adjustment video on youtube. thanks

  • cool thanks

  • Thanks you and conceted (Nirvana) it works, and now I have a new valuable skill!

  • You ware really sick. Thank you for the video.

  • Cheers for posting this, very helpful and easy to follow.

  • Thanks for the vid...simple, clear, informative..worked perfect...many thanks, now my chain no longer rubs the inside of the cage !!!!!!!!

  • This is best, clearest explanation I've found .......and it worked! Thanks so much!

  • How to adjust the cable tension with out having the cable fray and snap??? That has happened to me twice!!!

  • I have ridden a bike for years and have paid possibly £1000's for servicing. You make it look very easy and for the first time I now know how to set up my mechs.

    Cheers dude.

  • I'm having problems not with the adjustment screws but with how to angle the derailer so that it doesn't rub on the big gears.

  • awesome man !! you are great

  • hey! i have the same tires!

  • @yutwob do you want a medal or something????

  • Thanks, clearest explanation I have seen so far!

  • Great help, Thanks a lot. Now the Gribskov Marathon ( Denmark) at 103 km tomorrow, will be a lot smoother.

  • Excellent video,you're a star !

  • fantastic video! very simple to understand, but lots of knowledge was gained by watching it. thank you.

  • Wish bikes had planetary gears and get rid of all the clicking and clanking and exposed gears and chains.

  • @actonbath you might wanto think that again, take for example rohloff speedhub price approx 1400$, Weight adds approx 500grams to your bike, now this would be ok if it wouldnt be moving weight but the weight of the system is in the wheel every time you accelerate it takes little off your speed. moving weight makes bike light or heavy to ride! not the frame, break in period of approx 1000miles, this is good and bad good thing it lasts forever bad thing its not always smooth and light when you wan

  • Very well explained video. This is so helpful to people.

    Giacomo Fosscati

  • I must have browsed 30 different videos, and they all suck compared to this. Very informative and perfect instructions for a beginner or someone who just knows the basics. Thanks!

  • Turning my high and low screws had no effect on the position of the cage.

  • The chain was rubbing on the front derailleur and driving me nuts. Problem now solved. Thanks very much indeed.

  • 27 People don't like to save money!

  • Very good demonstration. With this, i will not go to my dealer and lost my time.

Anyway, just paid attention, the position of High and Low srews are not the same on all models of derailleur... See, on Shimano 105, the Low is up (left side) and the High is down (right side). Check on shimano doc tech.

  • It is possible the high and low screws can be inverse? I have shimano 105 and the don't put the L and H on it...

  • thanks, nice video

  • thanks guys!! helped a ton!!

  • ive done wat u said 2 times but it still wont go into third no matter how high i put the front deralliar the highest i went stopped it from going to no.1 and no.3 !!! plz help

  • @DirtCrashr This guy just posts a 5 minute video to help you(and alot of others) out and you start giving him shit coz your too stupid to know what a millimeter is.

  • Two small criticisms of the video. One, when you back out the barrel adjuster two clicks, you don't show it on camera which makes it an easy step to miss. The other, is it's difficult to see what side of the derailleur cage has the 2mm gap. Also, why the 3mm gap when adjusting the height, isn't the only thing that matters is that it doesn't rub the teeth on the gear? Thanks for posting this!

  • truly awesome video that has saved me having to take bike back to the shop as it arrived with derailleur all messed up. just watched it a few times through and read some of the comments below to learn from their tips. thanks for the clear, concise instructions.

  • If anyone is having an issue with either adjustment screws not doing a thing, try this. Put the bike to the largest cog in the rear and smallest cog in front. Loosen front derailleur cable to relieve all tension using allen wrench. Adjust the low adjustment screw to the most screwed in point (you may need to pull the derailleur out by hand to screw the adjustment screw all the way in) after that, you should be able to screw the second screw in all the way, too. Then, watch the video.

  • @conceyted Thank you! It all came clear with that little tidbit!

  • @conceyted My bike has a Shimano derailleur. I am always on the largest cog on front and smallest on rear. Problem is when i try to speed my bike, the chain slips and slips from the sprocket. I tried high and low keys with no success. Is it that I have to loosen the high key if I want to keep a high gear or should I keep it tight to be it on the high gear?? I have watched the video 4 times but I still couldnt out figure out what should I do in order for it to be at the high gear always.HLPMEPLZ

  • Been working on that thing for a couple hours, till this video! Thank you!

  • go get on your bigest cock

  • Very helpful, thanks alot!

  • Can some1 help me my high adjustment does't work, new bike halfords don't wanna take it bk 2 them again. thnx in advance

  • You rock dude thanks 4 teaching us all, mayb u can teach the staff at halfords 2 "the UK no.1 bike specialists" those dumb asses couldn't fix my gears so i made them gv me a new 1. I shud hav watched this first and nt wasted hours of my life. Once again thnx.

  • Nice vid, but I have one small problem here. The barrel adjustor at the shifter should not be turned all the way down. It should be turned so that there is room to move in either direction.

  • My gears were grinding and jumping out of place. I watched the video to get a Idea of what it entailed. Literally grabbed my bike at 10:48p and finished tuning by
