Keith Moon was a notorious joker, among other things, and is one of only a handful of people brave enough to ridicule this policy over its almost 50 years on BBC, as lip-synching is against everything a real rock band stands for, but is necessary for commercial gain. (For example, check out Nirvana on TOTP and watch the great Dave Grohl taking the piss at 2:24 along with the rest of the band. Yes, I am aware that Keith Moon is one of the greatest rock drummers of all time. I don't think you are familiar with the show they are performing on. Top of the Pops or TOTP, is the longest running TOP 40 show in Britain and is infamous for making its performers MIME.

Probably not, by 1978, his days as a legendary drummer were over, and he was much slower than seen here. Even his drumming had to be dubbed for the same song in "The Kids Are Alright".
