@stough77 Ignore them man they are all jealous, they can't even get close to this car, the closer they'll ever get is through their old ones. In a matter of fact, since I'm getting a car soon, you inspired me to get a Honda by showing the impressive merging speed. I heard a lot of bad stuff and thought it was shit but in fact it's amazing. And hope your having fun with it
why the fk is urs so slow.....do u have econ on?? cause for me in first gear going up to at most 5-6rpm i hit about 85kph/53mph u hit about 35-40mph in first gear....
Its pretty peppy for merging. Not the fastest, but then again not the point. Ignore all the haters. How's the car been now that its been a few months?
@techdude6693 I agree, at freeway speeds once it downshifts, it accelrates as much as I need it to.. It is certainly no race car at all...just a decent commuter car for me as I clock 50+miles a day commuting to and from work. I sit in so much traffic that having anything fast would probably be useless.. Now that I've had it for a few months, it's doing great. No complaints at all.. Thanks for watching!
@stough77 completely makes sense. I mean all everyone really needs is a decent car with good milage these days. I mean the civic isn't the most loaded or unique looking but its a honda, which means it'll last forever with no problems. I mean if you really care about power, then that's what the Si is for. If you don't mind me asking, how's the mileage been? My friends 09 EX Coupe usually gets her about 32 mixed, and I know this one is rated even higher
@techdude6693 I pretty much average the same mileage out of mine. Makes no difference if I drive like a grandma, or if I'm hitting VTEC all day long (sarcasm there) - my commute can only yield just over 30mpg. Road trips are a different story though..
wow, everyone hear is hating on the video, thats cool, yeah its slow, its an economy car, not a sports car, yeah, its a honda, dont like hondas? dont watch the video, yeah, its a youtube video, your an asshole? get a life and stop posting hate comments on a simple video like some 12 year old spoiled brat

The 2012 Honda Civic is a phenomenal car! The newly configured automatic has a deep overdrive 5th gear ratio of 0.53 to 1 and this provides 31mph of road speed for each 1000rpm of engine speed. In other words you are flying along at 75mph with the engine barely off-idle at 2500 rpm.....this is Corvette territory! And this is why the Civic with automatic achieves a spectacular 39 mpg! Plus with its 13.2 gallon tank the range is just over 500 miles. HONDA, 'follow the leader'?, Absolutely!
I test drove this car the other day at the dealer. 6 speed manual. nice ride...for high school kids! at the end of the day, it's still a 4 cylinder civic. everyone has it. ended up with a Bimmer instead!

@rasmusfalk The 2012 Honda Civic has the best automatic transmission in the business. 3rd gear has a ratio of 1.02 close to the legacy value of a 1 to 1 standard drive ratio. 4th gear is 0.72 and 5th gear is a deep-overdrive at 0.53. Do you realize that you are flying along at just over 75mph with the engine loafing along at only 2500 rpm. Yup, you get 31 mph of road speed for each 1000rpm of engine speed in top gear. The HONDA Civic is an overachiever!. HONDA , 'follow the leader'!
@BoboVicus The engine is changed a little, it redlines at 7k and makes peak HP a couple hundred revs less, and makes max torque about 1,200 less. It sounds a little more refined, but not much.
Amazing performance from the 2012 Honda Civic! Per Car and Driver with automatic transmission: 3rd gear is good for 107mph, 4th gear tops out at 125mph and 5th gear is good for 125 mph also . The top speed of my 1973 Yamaha RD350 with 6 speed transmission was between 98 and 100mph. Congratulations to Honda for bringing spectacular performance to its entry level vehicle!
@sukawyam I won't split hairs over the lack of off the line acceleration with anyone - coming from a 2007 Toyota Tacoma, to me the car feels gutless.. But I will say that at highway speeds - about 70mph or so - it will pull nicely up to 100mph.. Thanks for watching!
@stough77 Exactly! Most of my driving is on the Florida Turnpike or I-95 in Florida , therefore my speeds are usually 75mph or above:-) I will gladly give up off-the-line acceleration(in the city) for a vehicle such as the 2012 Honda Civic whose engine practically loafs along at highway speed.........with tremendous gas mileage to boot! DRIVE SAFELY! By The Way, GREAT VIDEO!
@zdogdrummer14 Yes, but does your dad's 87 Toyota Tercel have Bluetooth capability and an iPod interface? And, how many airbags does that Tercel have????
@zdogdrummer14 Amazing performance from the 2012 Honda Civic! Per Car and Driver(August 2011 issue) the 2012 Honda Civic with automatic transmission: 3rd gear is good for 107mph, 4th gear tops out at 125mph and 5th gear also is good for 125mph. The top speed of my 1973 Yamaha RD350 with 6 speed transmission was between 98 and 100 mph. Congratulations to HONDA for bringing spectacular performance to its entry level automobile!
@anfman1986 i agree...it's is not a car where they changed everything .BUT there are all new lines all new face all new back..and if u ask me ...I LOVE THE 2012 HONDA CIVIC....i think they did a great job...
just like the TSX... Civic needs a 2.0L-1.8L(K20a3 series and bring back the B) TSX Needs its own 2.4L(K24a3). Not the sjanky 2.4L Vtecless K24z3 used in 09+model TSX and Accords. Cant even hear the Vtec very well. And mods are limited for that engine! It dont even have a DOHC Vtec Cover like the K24a3 did! Oh and RSX-S needs them K20a3's to their selfs too. honda needs to stop using the same engine. And when they do bring back the K24a3 to its right place, they need to bring the turbo 2
this engine doesn't feel "eager" like the previouse si / tegra engines. hate to say it but it feels like a engine that should be in a , oh i don't know ACURA SEDAN.
@xoquixxoqafxo I'll post one eventually... I'm sure the 0-60 is in the high 8's or low 9's...nothing impressive. The car is built for economy anyway... I do like it - not 100% sold on the looks either, but it's brand new, reliable, and get's awesome gas mileage.
I haven't driven one yet but I loved the 8th gen Civic. I'm just very disappointed that the engine makes no more power and it still has the 5AT. But my biggest annoyance is the interior quality, its gotten soo cheap now :( Its just irritating bc if you walk over to the Ford dealer, the new Focus has a gorgeous interior and lots more tech, plus its a hatchback.
@xoquixxoqafxo The 8th Gen is nice, but I did think it looked off when it first came out. True the engine doesn't make any more power than the last generation, but it get's better gas mileage which is all I care about... In my opinion, the interior in the 9th gen Civic is not bad at all. The new Focus might be nicer - but it's all a matter of opinion. Personally, I'd never own a Ford, so I didn't even entertain the idea of buying one - regardless of the fit and finish.
Honda hasn't sold a decent Civic hatch here since the early 90s. The old 02-05 Civic hatch didnt sell bc it was the Si with a low revving engine. American taste is changing and hatchbacks sell much better now, infact, even toyota said the Yaris hatch outsold the sedan 70% to 30%. I think if they brought back the Civic hatch it would sell well.
@xoquixxoqafxo In another sense, the Prius has outsold the Insight 8-1. I know that really has not much to do with it since they are hybrids and the Prius gets better mpg. Still the Insight probably wouldn't have had that bad of numbers if it didn't have such a ugly rear. Another issue with hatchbacks is the age factor. Not many young people can even qualify let alone pay for financing a new car.
@xoquixxoqafxo yea ..BUT honda's will last u forever...and ford's new focus interior look's like SHIT..the ac nob is somthing like on my granny's 1996 chevy...i <3 honda
@stough77 its too soon to be saying its reliable. wait until it wears in more, then you'll see. not that i'm trying to be a jerk or anything, but first years models are usually the worst. the 01, 06 civics as well as the 03, 08 accords are full of problems. like i said, its too soon to know. Good luck
@lockheed08 I agree that first year models can be known to have issues which need some level of refinment or attention by the manufacturer. My basis for expected relibility comes soley from first hand experience having Hondas in the family for 20 years with only routine maintenence accounting for the cost of ownership.
@stough77 well its good that you know something about hondas, unlike most people. I myself have had an 02 accord for 2 years, and it still surprises me nothing has ever broken with the way I drive it. Honda will always be reliable in general, but there's always that one thing for each model. Mine is the cheap paint lol
@accordguy0325 that would seem logical but its not that simple. Its pretty obvious that Honda went cheap on this civic to keep prices the same, and honestly we don't know what they could have changed mechanically. Your right, it is the same, but it doesn't mean its made the same, or with the same materials. All 98-02 accords are the same, but why is it that my year(02) is so notorious? Bc they cheaped out. I understand what u said, but never be that confident with large corporations
@lockheed08 I won't disagree with that statment at all.. And true, in this economy you can't trust that large corporations won't cut a few corners just to save a buck and increase thier profit margin. However, I'll still roll the dice with Honda before I venture towards another manufacturer.
@7cusak I won't completely disagree with this statment... But I'm not claiming that it's by any means fast. Just posting an informational video. No one forced you to watch the video. Now take your sarcastic comments elsewhere.
About the break in period, Honda is correct. I have an 8th Generation Civic Coupe that I broke in for 500 miles. It's recommended that you don't push the engine too hard throughout the first 500 miles. But it does get better. Do you like it overall? I love the i-Mid system but the rest of the interior kills me after getting used to the 8th generation. The tac is so weird. :(
@alhassanimustafa Thanks for watching my video! Yes, acceleration is much better with the a/c off. I consistently average 42 to 44 mpg on the highway with mixed traffic.
@stough77 that's great. I am only averaging 23 combined. i took the car back to the dealership and they said the engine needs to break in before it gets good gas mileage . what do you think ?
@GhettoBasshead You bet! I'll get a better more clear 0-60 posted soon.. Really shouldn't be too different from the previous generation from what I can gather.. I understand it's not a race car, but the information for potential buyers could help.
no VTEC lmao

Do you realize that you are flying along at just over 75mph with the engine loafing along at only 2500 rpm. Yup, you get 31 mph of road speed for each 1000rpm of engine speed in top gear. The HONDA Civic is an overachiever!. HONDA , 'follow the leader'!

@stough77 same engine as the previous model? same RPM redline and sound
BoboVicus 5 months ago
@BoboVicus The engine is changed a little, it redlines at 7k and makes peak HP a couple hundred revs less, and makes max torque about 1,200 less. It sounds a little more refined, but not much.

Amazing performance from the 2012 Honda Civic! Per Car and Driver with automatic transmission: 3rd gear is good for 107mph, 4th gear tops out at 125mph and 5th gear is good for 125 mph also . The top speed of my 1973 Yamaha RD350 with 6 speed transmission was between 98 and 100mph. Congratulations to Honda for bringing spectacular performance to its entry level vehicle!
sukawyam 5 months ago
@sukawyam I won't split hairs over the lack of off the line acceleration with anyone - coming from a 2007 Toyota Tacoma, to me the car feels gutless.. But I will say that at highway speeds - about 70mph or so - it will pull nicely up to 100mph.. Thanks for watching!
stough77 5 months ago
@stough77 Exactly! Most of my driving is on the Florida Turnpike or I-95 in Florida , therefore my speeds are usually 75mph or above:-) I will gladly give up off-the-line acceleration(in the city) for a vehicle such as the 2012 Honda Civic whose engine practically loafs along at highway speed.........with tremendous gas mileage to boot! DRIVE SAFELY! By The Way, GREAT VIDEO!

this has worse acceleration than my das '87 toyota tercell! no joke

@zdogdrummer14 Yes, but does your dad's 87 Toyota Tercel have Bluetooth capability and an iPod interface? And, how many airbags does that Tercel have????

jordancurtiss 5 months ago
just like the TSX...

Can you do a 0-60 video? Also, how are you liking the 2012 Civic? I love Hondas but I honestly hate this latest generation Civic.
xoquixxoqafxo 7 months ago
@xoquixxoqafxo I'll post one eventually... I'm sure the 0-60 is in the high 8's or low 9's...nothing impressive. The car is built for economy anyway... I do like it - not 100% sold on the looks either, but it's brand new, reliable, and get's awesome gas mileage.
stough77 7 months ago
@stough77
I haven't driven one yet but I loved the 8th gen Civic. I'm just very disappointed that the engine makes no more power and it still has the 5AT. But my biggest annoyance is the interior quality, its gotten soo cheap now :( Its just irritating bc if you walk over to the Ford dealer, the new Focus has a gorgeous interior and lots more tech, plus its a hatchback.
xoquixxoqafxo 7 months ago 8
@xoquixxoqafxo The 8th Gen is nice, but I did think it looked off when it first came out. True the engine doesn't make any more power than the last generation, but it get's better gas mileage which is all I care about... In my opinion, the interior in the 9th gen Civic is not bad at all. The new Focus might be nicer - but it's all a matter of opinion. Personally, I'd never own a Ford, so I didn't even entertain the idea of buying one - regardless of the fit and finish.
stough77 7 months ago
@stough77
I've never owned a Ford either, but there products are soo impressive I'm willing to give them a chance :)
xoquixxoqafxo 7 months ago
@xoquixxoqafxo Honda has said this before and their numbers show it...hatchbacks don't sell.
DrGamble28 6 months ago
@DrGamble28
I think if they brought back the Civic hatch it would sell well.
xoquixxoqafxo 6 months ago
@xoquixxoqafxo In another sense, the Prius has outsold the Insight 8-1. I know that really has not much to do with it since they are hybrids and the Prius gets better mpg. Still the Insight probably wouldn't have had that bad of numbers if it didn't have such a ugly rear. Another issue with hatchbacks is the age factor. Not many young people can even qualify let alone pay for financing a new car.
DrGamble28 6 months ago
@xoquixxoqafxo yea ..BUT honda's will last u forever...and ford's new focus interior look's like SHIT..the ac nob is somthing like on my granny's 1996 chevy...i <3 honda
jordancurtiss 5 months ago
@stough77 its too soon to be saying its reliable. wait until it wears in more, then you'll see. not that i'm trying to be a jerk or anything, but first years models are usually the worst. the 01, 06 civics as well as the 03, 08 accords are full of problems. like i said, its too soon to know. Good luck
lockheed08 6 months ago
@lockheed08 I agree that first year models can be known to have issues which need some level of refinment or attention by the manufacturer. My basis for expected relibility comes soley from first hand experience having Hondas in the family for 20 years with only routine maintenence accounting for the cost of ownership.
stough77 6 months ago
@stough77 well its good that you know something about hondas, unlike most people. I myself have had an 02 accord for 2 years, and it still surprises me nothing has ever broken with the way I drive it. Honda will always be reliable in general, but there's always that one thing for each model. Mine is the cheap paint lol
lockheed08 6 months ago
@lockheed08
well considering Honda hardly changed anything for the 9th gen mechanically - I'd say worrying about reliability is a waste of everyone's time here.
accordguy0325 6 months ago
@accordguy0325 well put.
stough77 6 months ago
@accordguy0325 that would seem logical but its not that simple. Its pretty obvious that Honda went cheap on this civic to keep prices the same, and honestly we don't know what they could have changed mechanically. Your right, it is the same, but it doesn't mean its made the same, or with the same materials. All 98-02 accords are the same, but why is it that my year(02) is so notorious? Bc they cheaped out. I understand what u said, but never be that confident with large corporations
lockheed08 6 months ago
@lockheed08 I won't disagree with that statment at all.. And true, in this economy you can't trust that large corporations won't cut a few corners just to save a buck and increase thier profit margin. However, I'll still roll the dice with Honda before I venture towards another manufacturer.
stough77 6 months ago
What accelaration?
7cusak 7 months ago
@7cusak I won't completely disagree with this statment... But I'm not claiming that it's by any means fast. Just posting an informational video. No one forced you to watch the video. Now take your sarcastic comments elsewhere.
stough77 7 months ago
About the break in period, Honda is correct. I have an 8th Generation Civic Coupe that I broke in for 500 miles. It's recommended that you don't push the engine too hard throughout the first 500 miles. But it does get better. Do you like it overall? I love the i-Mid system but the rest of the interior kills me after getting used to the 8th generation. The tac is so weird. :(

nice video. i have noticed that the acceleration is way faster when the ac is off. what kind of gas mileage are you getting ??
alhassanimustafa 8 months ago
@alhassanimustafa Thanks for watching my video! Yes, acceleration is much better with the a/c off. I consistently average 42 to 44 mpg on the highway with mixed traffic.
stough77 8 months ago
@stough77 that's great. I am only averaging 23 combined. i took the car back to the dealership and they said the engine needs to break in before it gets good gas mileage . what do you think ?
