  • Some folks seem to be confused as to which late night show this is from. It is most definitely from "The Late Show" with Arsenio Hall hosting in 1987, after Joan Rivers was fired. Hall hosted for 13 weeks. He was ultimately brought back due to positive response to host his own show, "The Arsenio Hall Show" in January 1989.

It is not Letterman, who never had a soundstage with curtains/drapes.

  • COCAINEEEE

  • I love how John Patitucci dances around as he plays the bass. Around 20 seconds, it looks like he's just floating over the stage.

  • hadi lan

  • This has gotta be one of the oldest videos on youtube ... though still one of my favorites :)

  • Weckl, Patitucci, and Corea. Holy Trinity?

  • CHICK COREA ATE MY GFs BABY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Genius, great performance.

  • I didn't know TOM CRUISE played the Sax! :O

  • funky as shit.

  • White people trying to be funky.

  • @M1E1R And succeeding...

  • @M1E1R Trying? LOL

  • つわ者ドラマー、デイヴ・ウェックルを飛躍させたチック・コリア・エレクトリックバンドの当時の勇姿、パティトゥッチのチョッパーもうなるネ! #jazzm

  • Sorry all fans. That Song is "Light Years" I am getting old.

  • This song is "Rumble". It is played to a syclavier track that Chick put together in his studio. This was a very popular song for that band then.

He toured with the synclavier for a while. Huge set up and it sounded GREAT.

  • TOO funky >)

  • I GOING TO TATTOO ME THE NAME OF THIS SONG !I DON'T KNOW IF IS A CORRECTLY THE WRITE

  • The name of this song is "SECOND SIGHT"

  • Anybody knows the name this song? THANX!!!!

  • @TheStilson Light Years - Chick Corea Electric Band

  • @foamige MUCHAS GRACIAS FRIEND!!!

  • This is from 1990, not '87.

  • never would id see chick corea, the legendary key player I only know from my dads jazz cd's, in a fucking loose sweatshirt, sneakers, and playing a FUCKING KEYTAR

  • it must have been a humbling experience for the late show orchestra watching these guys come in and making them look like amateurs!

  • jejejejeje ... esto es de puta madre

  • Boring

  • A M A Z I N G ! ! ! ! ! !

  • I never got into "Light Years." Something about the production I didn't like. I love every other CCEB album. They're the soundtrack of my high school years.

  • geniallll!!!!!!

  • I have played bass for almost 20 years, see Patitucci and get depressed...have played drums for some years, see Weckl and get more depressed...and I am learning to play guitar, and see Gambale, and there is when depression turns into "I want so sell my instruments, because why bother?" They are all awesome.

  • They are so tropical... :D

i go with this song everywhere...

  • the last fill of Dave Weckl is simply spectacular...

  • @mrpelado22 ES INCREIBLE!

  • Another 2 excellent musicians made in the Corea Kraftmachine !

  • Man, if you guys like this kind of music, you should check out Casiopea or T-square...

  • It's like watching children play, sweet, mischievous and totally awesome!!

  • what's the name of this composition, it's really cool, it's a big pleasure and euphoria listening, and it would be better to see them alive on the stage togeather again

  • @The270787 Light years

  • I WILL KILL JOHN P AND TAKE HIS BRAIN AND HIS HAND....AND MAKE IT MY OWN....

  • The change-up @ 1:15 is sweet. I love it when bands throw in bridges that sound nothing like the verse or chorus.

  • Isn't that Arnold 'iron balls' Rimmer on sax?.lol

  • @potshot62 naw bro, its eric marienthal, but Frank Gambale looks like a rapist playin that guitar

  • Level 42 anyone? :)

  • Check out SoulDrummers . com

  • Why did they stop playing like that!!

  • ...Istenem...ezen nőttem fel... Ott voltam a Sportcsarnokban "87 -ben . Akkor Scott Henderson volt a csapattal. Szerintem a Corea - iskola egyik legszebb időszaka volt!

  • @Toggyuri irigyed vagyok

  • i love dave :)))))))))))))

  • i love chick corea, but this sounds like it should have been the prom soundtrack in Saved By The Bell

  • Holy shit, that is tight .. incredibly tight. The players are all monsters, as well.

I've listened to the older Chick stuff, and did not realize this era was so damn funky!

    Awesome.

  • Sounds like sonic the hedgehog soundtrack

  • eric merienthal on sax, frank gambale on guitar, john patitucci on Bass, Chick on keys and Dave on Drums

  • Great memories lol

this was the first CD i ever bought xD

  • Zajebiście:)

  • 80s fusion: awful sounds, mediocre compositions...thanks Gosh it's all over...

  • Ughhh! This is pathetic! They'd be great in a dance club but a ripoff in a jazz club. This was really the 80s! All appearance and no substance! Today you could program a machine to do the same thing!

  • @robertd1253 whaaat the hell are you smoking. Compare the 80's to the shit thats being played today. Ummm well guess what, half of the stuff that is played today is ACTUALLY programmed by a computer. And WTF, you can program a computer to make ANYTHING, the real thing just sounds 10000x better. Also this is meant to be a funk band, not an all jazz band. They're playing in front of a croud not a lounge... Whatever your smoking please give it to the shitheads of todays rap/pop music

  • @ParallaxDrums I'm comparing this to the rest of Chick Corea's output and this crap is just silly! They look silly, sound silly and are silly! I'm amazed the ghost of Miles Davis hasn't gotten up and kicked Chick in the ass over this!

  • @robertd1253 Well,at least, they can play this kind of stuff without feeling hung-up,which is apparently not your case.

  • @robertd1253 well i guess you don't know what fusion is all about. you can go and listen to your favourite songs of favourite jazz artists while still stereotyping. you can not call this one silly, who are you to say that? and stop categorizing music. if you can do better, do it and come up with it. just PROGRAM your computer to do so. otherwise, don't fill this wall with nonsense and ignorant comments.

  • You can't, not like that..

  • who's the bassist?

  • @piccinini02 John Patitucci is the bassist. What's amazing is the fact that he can also play the acoustic bass at the elite level.

  • If this song had a music video, it would be set in a swanky future robot night club! That's actually the way I picture a lot of elektric band's tunes.

  • I must have this on .wav format on my music player!!!

  • @ImperialArmour

wait, isn't this "Light Years" from the 1987 album "Light Years"!?

  • He did two songs from this show (Late Show with Arsenio Hall). They also did Time Tracks. Anyone out there have that one as well

  • all of them perfect.guitarist is Frank Gamble..

  • the bassist clearly makes this song besides dave weckl's god like paying on the kit

  • its the whole intesne engery of all these genious, believe me ;)

  • 2:25 : Dave weckel at his best :)

  • yeah.. that was dope...

  • 0:51 looks like elvis on the guitar

  • A-M-A-Z-I-N-G!

  • what commercial is this ?

  • I don't think i've ever seen a sub-par performance of JP. He's the tightest bass player around by a long stretch!

  • this is grooooooooooooooooovy :D

  • It's nice to see there were musicians in the 80's who weren't hooked on electronic 4/4 techno shit. Funky as hell..

  • I didn't know Mel Gibson can play the Sax :)

  • NO fucking shit right?! and how's Tom Cruise on Bass? :-P

  • Surely shome mishtake. That's Arnold J. Rimmer isn't it ?

  • sweet keytair.......

  • Notice that they are using a sequencer of some sort. Dave is right on it too. John's bass is EXTREMELY compressed too. I just love Frank's mullet...

  • These guys are solid!

  • anyone know what show this was from?

  • @pownjhell

from the old Fox Late Show w/Arsenio Hall

He had all the top Smooth Jazz/fusion groups: Spyro Gyra, the Rippingtons were among his musical guests

  • @jbk0710 Man, why was i not alive when this show was on? Any show that highlights CCEB and Spyro needs to be back on air!

  • john patitucci on bass.

  • thanks

  • whats the bass players name! he is so jammin at the start!ha

  • Hence why MY name is Electric-jazz , Weckl is the Best drummer on the planet

  • good slapp!

  • did you heard the last fills on drums, holy shit haha xD

  • @DruMmMeuR waaaaaa double murder..

  • man.... i wish i had their coke dealer's number.

  • APlayers..

  • Good times. Great grooves.

    Weckl is the man!!!

    NBdrums

  • Whoever wrote stuff for Sega Genesis games must've listened to a ton of this stuff...

  • That bass player is jammin' hard hahaha.

    Very cool video.

  • Couldnt have put it any better myself XD

  • there's no way this is pop. jazz fusion is a pretty good category to throw this into.

  • it is that Herbie Hancock.. groovy grove....

  • JP did slap-pop...!

  • This song calms my thetan levels

  • that is tooooo funny!! This band got better as they kept going. My favorite CD was "Eye of the Beholder"

  • Comment removed

  • it's music

  • Comment removed

  • who's the sax player?

  • eric marienthal

  • u kno the camera wants weckl hmph

  • His cherry yamaha kit...i ll always remember this one!!

  • Amazing

  • Excelente performance. Eu ainda tenho o vinil dos caras.

  • i cant stop watching this.

  • WOW - i bet all the people in the show had their fucking minds blown away by this performance - including the professionals in the show's band! - Even the non-musician can tell these guys are "light-years" away from ordinary!

  • this is SO fucking tight, it could be a rhythm box from one of those cheap synthesizers! incredible! weckl+patitucci=machine!

  • John kinds of steals the tune, this is so easy for these guys it is a joke, they could do their income tax while playing this jam.

  • priceless

  • Marcus Miller should have sat in on this gig. Fender Jazz Bass not withstanding.

  • whats the name of the bassist? :p

  • He is Mr. John Patitucci!! an awesome bass player :D

  • this is awesome :D

  • well i like fusion and frank is great but to me 80 pop sound to.....yack....those stupid slot machine electric sounds...

  • Yeah, but, this was the 80s and they were on mainstream TV, so it makes sense they'd play their most pop-like material.

  • u cant make no song without a slap pop bass!

  • telepathy at 2:34

  • ya - pitch shifting was new back then. Sounds like Trevor Rabin took a lesson from Gambale on that one.

  • Still some of the best musicians worldwide. I still can't get over how much Chick reminds me of Jerry Lewis. LOL

  • I can't get over how much he looks like jeff goldblum!!!

    XD

  • seriously i can't handle this, it's too funky for me such a swing :), and i love the bassist's style and weckl's tight as usual.

  • amazing !

  • This is electro-fusion, 80's style. It was progressive for it's time, and it has a very original sound, which led to more modern arrangements of similar songs. Like it or hate it, it has it's place in fusion history. I personally like it, because it features great bass riffs, tight drum fills and unique soloing by Chick.

  • the hook is TOO FUNKY

  • Fusion my ass!

  • Should they really be proud of that ???

  • Hell NO!!!

  • :D

    so fun ;)

  • Corea,Pattituce,Weckl,Gambale...

    Damn this kicks ass!

  • bass ftw

  • Why does this remind me so much of Saved by the Bell? Weckl melts faces

  • patitucci rock's

    dave weckl rock's

    chick corea rock's

    lool

Like a lot this sound ... specialy the bass :)

  • Patitucci dancing is the best ... ahahahahahahahha

    Great Sound

  • groovy baby love this type of music

  • Perhaps the most tasteful keytar playing ever.

Oh Chick, if only you weren't a Scientologist, I would have your babies.

  • this a realy cool groove, nice feel

  • sweet keytar

  • it better be fucking brown sugar. white sugar is too flavourless...it dissolves better like for tea and stuff, but brown sugar is just way rawer

  • Read The Fucking Manual... :-) The text on your right already says it... But here I go "Light Years is a 1987 Album by the Chick Corea Elektric Band". Here ya go!

  • is any place that i can download this song, and what is the name of it? and on what album came pleaaaase help!

  • The song is called Light years, but i dont know the album`s name and is a little bit difficult to find it, maybe in ares. La cancion se llama Light years, pero no se el nombre del album y es un poco dificil de encontrarla, tal vez en ares.

  • You can get this live version of Light Years on a double CD called GRP Super Live in Concert, and the studio version is on the album Light Years.
