Everyone at Lakewood (WA) School District 306 should be proud he chose to teach there, I certainly was. We were all ignorant of his pro expertise, except dad, and the uncles, and great uncles, etc. Best kept secret in the area.
Instead of locking hands just turn the palm of the hand crossing the belly down and hook the other at the elbow! It used to be called a chest cradle! Vary tight!
yeah its legal in wrestling.. i got the chance to join a local grappling match i did the crosss chest cradle or west point ride then i was disqualified they said it was neck cranking...(in a bjj no-gi grappling match)
This move would be more for submission wrestling/grappling tournaments. If your not familiar with that style, just look up NAGA, Grappler's Quest, ADCC, or attend a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu tournament and, watch the matches where they don't wear the gi's (uniforms.)
This move is illegal for high school wrestlers (see rules book page 81, photo #102). It is also illegal in freestyle/Greco for kids age divisions. The West Point ride is also called a chest cradle.
Not in Canada. We're divided into junior (grades 9 & 10) and senior (grades 11 & 12). Seniors are allowed to do it (and juniors can often get away with it, if they just roll it like a gutwrench).
If you sit around just holding on. If you immediately take the pinning combo you should be alright. Think of a traditional far side cradle-- this also locks hands in the referees position. Locking hands is ok in pinning combos.
hmmm... not familiar with American rules. In Canada (we use international rules) we "lock hands" all of the time. How the hell do you guys do a gutwrench?
Actually, you really feel it on the ribs. I'm sad to say that I was demo'ing the move on a friend that was a week away from going on the Ultimate Fighter and I broke a couple of his ribs and tore his ab. I literally felt his bones and ab tear on my core. I felt horrible! So if you guys do attempt this move, be very careful. If you have any questions, feel free to send me a message.
USAW rule book calls this move out specifically as being illegal

very painful. I have used this before but I was taught that it was called a cross chest cradle.

@john51880 You can do them. They work exactly the same without locking up.
