  • Hi Edwin,

Have you any study suggestions or recommendations for a new player coming to guitar on how to play with the thumb? How'd you begin, as it appears you've mastered the use of your thumb quite well. I prefer the tonality of the instrument played with the thumb as opposed to a pick. I've read that Wes came to use his thumb due to attempting to keep the volume down during late night practice sessions.

Your videos are very inspirational to new players like myself. Many thanks!

    Greg

  • Just get in to it. Don't waist your time with books about Wes technique. I have a book about his technique. It didn't help at all. Al you have to do is the same thing Wes did. Grab the guitar and start practicing. That's the way I did it. Listen to Wes playing and check his video here in YouTube. Observe his right hand in how he play with his thumb. Give your self time and be patient. You will get the hang of it just like I did. If you have the desire...you can do it!!!

    Wish you all the best.

  • beautiful playing

  • Hi Terry,

your words always makes me feel good.

Wish you all the best Terry!

  • Edwin, real cool phrasing, great tone and timing, indeed you have that Wes touch totally down, octave playing sure gives that rich full tone quality, even heard you do some 16th runs in octaves now that ain't easy. The single tone solo also sounds good, and by switching you keep things nice and interesting, cheers Vic.

  • Hi Vic,

Thanks for your observation, your a very smart person, with a good ear man. I try my best with this nice tune. I just love the touch that the thumb gives to the octaves.

    Thank you my dear friend.

  • very cool

  • Thank you brother.

  • Hey Edwin, wonderful playing bro.

  • Hi Gideon and thank you for the nice compliment.

    Best wishes, Frank

  • Frank, thank you so much for that compliment brother. I'm so glad you enjoyed it.

    My regards to you.
