One of my favourite songs of all times BUT it doesn't stand the comparison to the Learning To Live from the ONCE IN A LIFETIME album. It lacks pace and energy.
The best live band on the planet. That F# made his whole career. Such ferocity, such prowess and build up. I love how so many DT songs lead in with a great LaBrie note to Petrucci's kick ass solos. I was forever changed the moment I discovered this band!
One thing that stinks, is they dont play this song on the Images and Words live in Tokyo. I was lookin foward to this song the most but apparently they did it as an encore that wasnt filmed.
What what Petrucci's live rig back in those days? His tone sounded excellent on the Images and Words album, but it sounds like he's using a 20 watt solid state Crate amp live! It's so bad! I'm glad he has upgraded his live rig, it sounds much better nowadays.
Yeah imagine how awesome it would be to have James voice from this time period and JP's current tone. insane. But to be fair JP doesn't sound that bad. I kind of like it.
Personally i like the version from Live Scenes From New York better, though this is good. Never understod why Labrie have to sound so different live. He's always performing better in studio
@roaldski Because he's had quite a few vocal chord injuries over his career, on the 2009 Prog Nation tour he sounded just as good as he did back in 1992 though, it was great
@TotallyChipper He is a different person that is Kevin Moore their first keyboardist, then, Derek Sherinian then Jordan Ruddess (the one they have now)
To those hungry for the eargasm, the F# note part starts at 7:05 but I highly recommend just starting at 0 and work your way to it lol

Yeah for some reason his voice sounded very scratchy on the Japan tour, I don't know why. He sure nailed that F# though!
AxerJk 2 years ago 3
I think that's how the rest of the band WANTED him to sound. Because as you mentioned he can clean up the sound even at those amazing high notes!
