Much of the action in this movie was based on Tom Barry's exploits in West Cork. Barry drilled his men for half an hour after the Kilmichael ambush as some were in a state of shock at the scale of the death they had meted out to the Tans. Ordinary men who risked all to take on the biggest empire in the world. You have to respect that. They were shot, tortured, homes burned, families evicted, imprisoned and much more. They never gave up and defeated a vastly 'superior' force.

If I were making a movie about the War of Independence/Civil War I'd film it like a Sergio Leone spagetti Western. Three ruthless men - an IRA man, a Black and Tan and a Tinker join forces to rob the hidden fortune of a murdered landlord named Bill Carson. While Ireland is torn apart by armed conflict the three unscrupulous renegades fight a battle of wits to get their greedy hands on it. I seem to have seen the movie, it was all nice and touching and what not. I can`t really connect to Sinnead O`Connor`s rendering of Oro se do Bheatha,though. I don`t really stomach, in whatever theme, his screechy, high-pitched voice, and certainly his interpretations used as background music for battle seens may accidentally mislead the viewers concerning the actual seriouseness of combat. The Dubliners sound much more like it. Sorry, but the movie looks stupid with that girly singer`s sound..
