@rippingdon you are right and it is very sad she was ahead of her time as it cost her her tv carreer. No one bats an eyelid nowadays at Ramsey but in 1976 when a member of the public Gwen Croake won a competition to cook for some dignitries the public were so outraged about Fannys criticism and treatment towards Croake that the BBC sacked her and she never worked again.
Gotta love her! She was so entertaining to watch. I actually tried this recipe out after watching this the first time, and it was delicious, and very quick and easy.
she felt she was superior, above critism and wanted total control ( like all tv chefs really today) but her rudeness that seemed awkward here, she wasnt very comfortable and so made it hard work for the presenter, maybe she knew she was passed her best but was terrified to show it, entertaining to watch her, but oftern not for the right things
i agree Fanny was the queen of cookery shows, wish we could see more of her cookery series back on t.v today, i loved the way she decorated and garnished food, Blue eggs oefs regal or something like that.brilliant lady.
Fanny would have been around 76 at the time this was made. Only nine years before she passed away. I wish she could come back, so many of today's tv cooks praise her! I'd love to see her on Ready Steady Cook!!! Imagine what she'd say to Ainsley!! She's tell him to COOK OFF, in not so many words!! FAB!!
I agree - she did a hell of a lot for British cooking post second world war and was a true eccentric have her life story was made up but not in a malicious way she was just a little loopy. She was not the monster she was portrayed to be.
Sometimes I think she really couldn't understand and relate to most other people...as though she found it incomprehensible that other people didn't know what she knew and think like she thought. I don't know if it was feeling superior....but maybe just not being able to relate.
at03:00 he tries to help her out and make up 4 saying very sweet by saying lemons give the sweetness balanced and she puts him down by going off on a tangent saying lemons to stop bananas bruising, what a sancrimonius cow
I don't think she was trying to put him down as she replied in a friendly way , i just think she couldn't think of the words she was trying to say and he helped by saying 'balanced' and it wasn't the word she was looking for.
she seemed to have learnt nothing from her disasterous tv experience in the 80`s!!
talking to people like they are shit, refusing to converse in friendly banter, acting superior to all!!!!
she`s good for nothing more than car crash tv, she deserved all she got, even here, when trying to be better than everyone around her and the viewer she makes herself look foolish, but can`t see it!
she`s great tv viewing, but not for what she thought nor intended!
Awww...she's on in years here...wonder how old she is?

Poor ol' Fanny, you could tell she was way past her prime when this was filmed.

Shame Fanny isn't around today, with her attitude she would have been huge, even knocking down Gordon Ramsay!

I think she presents fine here. The presenter Nick Owen appears to be the one who is uneasy and uninterested.

Judging by this clip, I imagine Fanny must have admired Alexis from Dynasty & Margaret Thatcher.

i feel this woman was very misunderstood, she must be pushing 80
plus. a very obstinate possibly contrary in her manner but thats the way she is she was brought up that way.
pretty harmless i recon.
