this is my song to my precious baby boy! At 8 months I cried knowing that some day he will choose his own path in life haha hes six now and it still saddens he's gonna be eighteen :) I LOVE YOU SON!!!
I dedicated this song to my daughters today- I want them to know that while chasing their dreams, I will always be their safety net, their sounding board, their ultimate supporter- the first time I heard this song I knew it would always be meant for my girls.
One of my best friends in the whole world linked me to this video... She told me, "I feel like anyone could sing it to you and it would have the same meaning"... But she sang it to me...
AwsumOldShizzle: you can thank the real composer, Danny O'Keefe, for this 'real music.' He hashed it out with Tim O'Brian on an afternoon in September of 1996. See Danny's website. You'll find the song on his album, 'In Time.' Credit is due where credit is due.
I know the composer of this song, Danny O'Keefe, would be pleased you all appreciate it so much. He composed it with Tim O'Brian in September of 1996. You can find him singing it on Youtube. Do the search. It's been one of my fave's for years.
@mobbtones sorry :( Nickel Creek broke up awhile ago :( But they all have other projects going. Sara Watkins has a solo album out and another on the way. Sean Watkins has several projects including solo albums and is a part in Fiction Family. Chris Thile also has several projects, one with Yo Yo Ma and a new album coming in february with his band Punch Brothers, and another recent album (can't remember the name) Its sad that they broke up but we wouldn't have these other albums if they hadn't
GREAT....5 days before Christmas 2011 and I have to watch video's like this, as if I'm not a total basket case with tears flowing as it is, all good tears of missing everyone I knew though.
@CaveCreekRob actually this a cover by Nickel Creek the song was originally done by Tim O'Brien and co-written by Danny O'Keefe and O'Brien. But point taken, their one hell of a group.

One of my very best friends just sent this to me. . . brought me to tears. He knows we will part ways, won't always be together, but We Will Never Not Be Friends. I have to be one of the luckiest people alive, to have a friend like him.
Nickel Creek made you think. They made you think about what's important in life. You can't sing songs like this unless you yourself have been through some tough times. Songs like this bring me back and make me realize that there is something good in this world to fight for after all...
i want to dedicate this song to a girl i really like her name is tia and lives in lochbouie , co i am so worried about you and want to be a big part of your life just one chance and please quit hurting yourself you are beautifull and ask you will you be mine i will always be there to catch you if you fall if you will im on a bended knee for you babe
i love this song very much i met hundreds of individuals at a summer camp in the great USA in the state of wisconsin changed my life for all its worth and this was our favorite song evertime it played each week , i never say tears of love passion and happiness the way i did until we sang this song . Wisconsin Badger Camp 2011 my lifes love foreve.
@illinoisobssed come on now, you're making us Illinoisans look uneducated!! It is CHRISTIAN not cristin (whatever that is) and while some of Nickel Creek's music is faith based, no they are not a Christian band
When I was little, my dad would go away on long business trips, and my mom would let me sleep in their bedroom. Every night she'd play CDs until I fell asleep. This song always played. I was only 2 or 3 when she played it, but yesterday she turned on the song and I knew every word. I love Nickel Creek. This song, the Lighthouse's Tale, Reasons Why, and the Hand Song are some of my favorites.
@JTLawtonProductions No... I think you're confused. Nickleback are real American heroes and you're obviously misguided if you are not a fan. Have you heard that song Rockstar??? I MEAN C'MON!
@howl87 You botched your whole statement by saying Nickleback was American. They're Canadian. I wish you would go watch them instead of posting stupid stuff on good videos, only so you can actually back up your statements logically.

It was 2002. I loved her very much, but I had learned that if I really loved her, I had to let her go. New York was calling her along with a bright new future... We loved each other very much, but we decided this was best. I sent the last three nights with her singing this song to her... That was ten years ago. I'll never forget how I felt that tues. morning at 8:30 when she called to say her last goodbye. She was on the first plane that hit the towers... I miss her so much. :(
I listened to this song on repeat for months everytime I was in my car after my grandpa passed away...it was so comforting to me. Everytime I hear it now, I feel like he's with me!
i used to play this when my wife was pregnant with my son. now 4 years later if i play this on my guitar he falls fast asleep. i love them there music is so pure
Wow Kim, Im so sorry to hear that. Just lost my best friend of 26yrs to leukemia. I was with him through it all but the last two weeks of hospice care. Even though i wasnt there at the very end, he knew.... just like your father, he couldnt speak to you but, he knew. You are raising his grand daughter and that is the best piece of him he could have left for you. You really are blessed ; )
This song makes me cry everytime i hear it. My dad was diagnosed wit metastatic melenoma 3 years ago. He fought for about a year until he couldnt fight anymore. In august of 2009 i moved 2 states away because we thought he was getting better. when i let he was in still good health. 2 months later i went home to find him in a hospital bed with no way to speak, at 7:40 on dec 20 2009 while i held his hand he took his last breath. 1 day after mydaughters 1st birthday. i miss my dad everyday. -Kim
@AwsumOldShizzle no .... MEATLOAF......... THAT my friend is real music..... It is also delicious...... especially with a little extra ketchup and brown sugar.....
My son chose this for us to dance the son and mother dance at his wedding. I had never heard it before. Pretty song. I will always be here for him and I think he understands my diagnosis of breast cancer by his choice of this song. He has a good heart that son of mine, I am a proud mama.
this song always makes me cry i love all their songs! and they are all beautiful and the girl is such a talented violin player and the guys are awesome singers and guitar players ! this is my favorite band ever! oh! and they harmonize so well together! go nickel creek !
@beatlescreek86: Open mind you say towards music? I respect your oppinion I do. However my nose is deff not in the air as you state. I can put any Nickel Creek song against any Gaga song and assure you that Nickel Creek will envoke more feelings and emotion than a Gaga song. A 13 year old child sung her song better than she did. She is overhyped, overpaid, and a drama queen. Granted society as a whole is geared toward that now, but its wrong and you know it.
Beautiful song with such a powerful meaning...This is for my daugher, Kallie. She is a senior this year in high school...She has big dreams and plans for life..I wish her all the best..I will be there IF I need to catch her fall...and pull her back up. Always her MOMMY...I LOVE YOU Kallie...
Please GOD...bring back this type of music. Main stream media is killing us all. Lady Gaga...Bieber..I could go on. WAKE UP people...music is meant to mean something. Its not about sex, drugs, or what kind of car you have...
@TheCicerro Gaga is a talented songwriter. Yes, her albums are over-produced. The unplugged versions of her songs are great though. songs like this give ya hope during bad times, takes u away from all your problems and gives you the courage to fight for what you love, not many songs can do that and be so beautiful at the same time
This song, crushes me. Every time. Yet I listen, over and over. It brings back the greatest loss/heartache of my life, yet promises me something better. The better fails me, yet the heartache echoes new every day.
i've always had a very sceptical look on country music, thinking that its only these yeeeee-haaaaw songs, but man, this kind of country is just awesome and touching, i love nickel creek <3
Im literally about to cry. I mean, we play this for our fifth grade end of the year slideshow when we leave our amazing school. I'm seriously going to cry when it happens.
@TheBlockDog It still amazes me how so few people know of Tim O'Brien. He's such a musical genius, yet he continues to go unnoticed. This is such a great album; just one of many.
hah ^^ such a wonderful song... mom used to play this song so much after dad passed. glad there is such music to help convey so many strong emotions. R.I.P James
@dghmusic Me too i absolutely LOVE this song and Sara Watkins! I first heard this song a few yrs ago. It was in one of Warren Millers skiing/snowboarding videos that he makes. It was Epic!!! So glad i was able to find it, as i didnt even know the name or who it was that sang it.
Back in 2002 after getting a terminal Cancer diagnosis I sat in a room full of pillows with my friends Rob and Kiera and did quite a few drops of this absolutley clean and clear LSD 25 ,in a Vizine eye drops bottle..This song was on the stereo cd with repeat/single on "When you come back down" .Now ,the 3 0f us lay on the pillows ,laughing talking and basically tripping our brains out from 8 pm until 8 am when my girlfriend poked her head in and said,"You have been listening to 1 song all night.
@scpttybpyo8 Yes I am! I was just off line for a while and now I am back and still listening to Nickel Creek songs and back performing my music with my girlfriend at Coffee houses and clubs and Living with this slow growing Cancer called "Carcinoid Syndrome" and Still Exploring the Super Natural and Learning to Love Everyone!!
OMG! WILL NEVER GET TIRED OF YOU GUYS. YOUR BLUEGRASS IS SOFT AND SO FULL OF HARMONY. YOUR MUSIC HAS TOUCHED ME IN SO MANY WAYS...PLEASE COME BACK! ; ( and Sarah,...if you were gravy and i was a biscut,..I WOULD SOP YOU UP!!!
It reminds me of the relationship that my best friend and I have and how I will alwyas be there for him no matter how high he goes in his life. I love this song. Can't get enough of it.
I lost my brother in high school and even though parts of this isn't really a song about death, it still comforts me knowing that I'll see him again. This is the song I wish I could have sang for him at his funeral.
just recently broke up with my girldfriend...i can't stop thinking about how much of a huge mistake that was..now that i'm trying my hardest to work things out with her she tells me she wants to do her own thing for a while..song really hits me hard..especially the chorus..but i will still be there when she comes back down

i've always had a very sceptical look on country music, thinking that its only these yeeeee-haaaaw songs, but man, this kind of country is just awesome and touching, i love nickel creek <3

Im literally about to cry. I mean, we play this for our fifth grade end of the year slideshow when we leave our amazing school. I'm seriously going to cry when it happens.

This song was written by Tim O'Brien and Danny O'Keef. Tim does a mighty fine version on his album "When No One's Around".
TheBlockDog 9 months ago
@TheBlockDog It still amazes me how so few people know of Tim O'Brien. He's such a musical genius, yet he continues to go unnoticed. This is such a great album; just one of many.

I lost my brother in high school and even though parts of this isn't really a song about death, it still comforts me knowing that I'll see him again. This is the song I wish I could have sang for him at his funeral.
