  • Thats that dang ol' devil magik!

  • Nice!

... but you sure are miserly with the tape rolled.

    (just joking!)

  • wow

  • I have already made the mix and a seed crystal but the seed sometimes seems to "melt" in the jar with the mix. Have I done something wrong?

  • @sconesbi That probably means that you either did not let the solution cool enough before adding the seed, or that the solution was not saturated enough. Keep the mixture just below boiling and mix in crystals until you can't any more, and see crystals dropping to the bottom. Then, pour off the top liquid part into a different container and let it cool to room temperature. Then, you should be able to start the experiment.

  • @spcutler Many thanks. I could see some sediment in the bottom of the jar. I was also using boiling water. On top of all that, I did not strain the solution to remove any sediment etc. Trial by error so now will give it another go. Good thing the copper sulphate powder is cheap. Thanks again. Will reply once I have a win with it all.

  • @uRDArkFRieND30 I wouldn't trust liquid copper sulfate, as it may contain additives that will interfere with the process, and won't be at the correct concentration. You should start with pure copper sulfate crystals and distilled water for best results.

  • and a copper sulphate seed crystal

  • can u do it with white borax

  • @Danoz246 I'll look into it--I didn't know that you could make crystals with borax. Thanks for the suggestion!

  • @Danoz246 yeah

  • this is maddd as im going to try it

  • where do you buy this copper sulphate and how much did you pay for it

  • i got tree root killer and that is copper sulfate but it is in crystalized form not a powder so will it work or... no?

  • @spyroparty64 It doesn't matter in what form it is.

  • @zoltan6561 feedmills. its like under 20 bucks a lb

  • How long does it take due this experiment?

  • @beteroo The timelapse is over the course of several hours. It takes around a half an hour of setup time.

  • @beteroo Now that I think about it, the timelapse took more like a full day. Pictures were taken every 3 minutes, and for 17 seconds and 30 fps, that comes to ~25 hours.

  • Thanks~~

  • how do you get it to work so well, i did the experiment 8 times and never got a single crystal

  • If you boiled it you will only get powder... you have to let it evaporate to get crystals... which can take long amounts of time...

  • @elderfunthark I'm not sure I did anything special. I heated distilled water to just below the boiling point, dissolved as much copper sulfate as I could, skimmed off some residue on the surface of the liquid, and poured the solution into a shallow plastic tray. It worked on the first try.

  • Really Really Cool. I love Copper sulfate.

    Good job!
