  • better get dressed before going out!

  • I actually remembered this earthquake...I was in my dorm on elmendorf afb when it happened....I was so suprised on how long it lasted....it was like it didnt wanted to stop.....

  • it last this long because, it is a far away! further away from the epicenter the longer it lasts.

  • what about the kids toys? lol...

  • if that guy goes outside he needs to get something on this tighty whiteys. like pants. lol! get ur britches on .

  • 'Denali' fault? Are you sure it wasn't Palin's fault? (Everything else seems to be.)

  • ''i'm sitting on this toilet''funny as hell''where you guys going''

  • what about our toys?! how cute! bless them

  • So its cold as hell and there is a shit load of Earthquakes. Why would anybody live in Alaska?

  • @TheHNIC88 Living there is cheaper than the lower 48 states. The state gives you like 2 or $3,000 dollars a year just for being a resident, because of the oil revenue that the state gets

  • kid are funny.you all took the ride well,g0d bless

  • LOL. What about my toys.

  • Haha you're the greatest with the kids! Telling them how cool it is instead of panicking and making them scared :P

I live near the San Andreas fault and we get some pretty good shakers once in a while. I slept through a 7.2 once haha.

Well it's good that you and your family are okay and the kids didn't panic. It's always a good idea to keep a clear head and think strategically in case things get really bad. Cheers :)

  • so i guess having a 7.9 earth quake for you guys is like a thunderstorm for anyone else?

  • The safest place to be in an earthquake is a doorway, so there is a Darwinian pressure for all humanity to become drunks and hookers.

  • umm..the dude in his undies.

  • wow total destruction

  • Gotta love how Alaskans take it in stride. Kids and all stayed pretty darn calm, considering.

  • @hunt1803 that is because there living in open area no building around them they know that there safe no debris falling unto them

  • In my country earthquake was yesterday,American says that have been 6.7 Reahter..(Rh)...:(...its terible...:D

  • hahaha, i remember this one. i was at my friend's house, it was right before we left for school. gave us all something to talk about that day at least! hahaha fun times, fun times

  • @checkers1245 we get about 10 earthquakes a day

  • I live in fairbanks Alaska and it was a 7.9 not a 7.5! It was at least 20 times stronger up there cuz the epicenter was only 109 miles away from us. The shaking was for 3 minutes

  • 7.9 is huge! I am surprised they didn't have more damage.

  • Thanks for sharing this.

  • Did you though it can be an H.A.A.R.P. effect of their stupid experiments?

Keep your eyes open on what happens over there!

  • During this quake my 4-runner was bouncing- trees were swaying. It quake went on and on....we only had a few glasses break. We live about 100 miles from the epicenter. I awoke last night at 4 am during the 5.38 we had. Lots of quakes in the Interior of Alaska.

  • My 4runner was jumping up and down- trees were swaying...glasses fell off the shelves and it kept on going....we live in the Interior less than 100 miles from the epicenter. Woke up last night at 4am and felt the 5.38 quake we had.

  • Doesn't Alaska get hit with a lot of earthquakes? I have been checking recent earthquakes everyday and it seems like Alaska gets hit almost weekly.

  • @checkers1245 They get less quakes than us in California but most of us Californians dont know it bcuz theyre all 1's and 2's. Alaska has a ton of 5's and 6's all the time.

  • Amazingly long! That't the frightening part. Glad you all came through it. I live in San Francisco and I know if we had that strong and that long there would be much damge.

  • Most of the earthquakes I experienced lasted less then a minute....

"I'm scared!" ): *puts blanket over head* Awww~ How cute! XD

  • lol, he's using Windows 2000 on his computer xD

  • earthquakes are caused by sucking in to much drpepper! STOP IT! i know, this stuff tastes freakin´ awesome, but just stop it!

  • People are often killed trying to leave a building during a quake. Best thing to do is get under a very heavy and sturdy table or beside a huge heavy object such as a couch away from the outer walls.

  • Why are the kids laughing

  • I remember when I was very little ( about 8 ), my brother and I shared a double decker bunk bed. It wasn't built properly, and after the 1981 Vancouver Island Earthquake which was only like a 6.3 or so, my the top bunk supporting my fat friggin brother's weight fell on top of me, just like in Step Brothers. It didn't scare me, it was hilarious.

  • Some people are just dumb ... this was a 7.9,but like LostSisler say's we were not as close to the main source as Haiti was. I was in a different part of town, but felt the same it was scary!!! because it lasted so longer than the ones were used too.

  • beautiful family!

  • this wasnt a three pointer it was a 7.9. they r 163 miles from the epicenter so it isnt as strong. it says in the box. use ur common sense.

  • It depends on how deep and how far you are from the earthquake's epicenter . But yeah, the 7.2 in Baja felt like a 3 up here in LA.

  • that was a moderate long earthquake. the sumatra earthquake that had the tsunami on christmas eve was 9 minutes long and was a 9.2. very long and violent. imagine what your house would look like after that!

  • I don't remember that. I do remember a 6.9 around 99/00 ish. I was a jr in highschool. It hit just south of Kodiak Island. Even a 6.9 didn't do jack nothing but shake.

  • it's like the 7.2 earthquake in Baja California on Easter it was the same intensity as the one in this video.

  • I agree. This wasn't a 7.9 richter quake. Maybe was a 7.9 mercalli. Greetings from Chile.

  • @kielstadt 2002. Magnitude 7.9 central Alaska. The person in this video may have grabbed their camera towards the end because i know for a fact that at the end of quakes they have a rolling motion which looks like is whats happening in this video.

  • ma nn e di 7.9 impossibileee

  • They were too far from the action. If they were a little closer then...

  • I live in Washington state ! Along the Subduction Zone! We have our nerves here huh?

  • I remember when that hit, I didnt live in the area but i saw the footage on the news, split roads open too.

  • BTW Lost.. great video.

  • Whatever you do, DO NOT run outside where the building won't fall in on you. Sheese!

  • "Something's breaking loose"

It's the guy in the toilet.

  • i remember that earthquake, it was awesome :)

  • stawp saying that, yowr scawing the kids!

    wut about owr toys

  • Nice I'm glad ur safe

  • That's a good video. Glad you're safe! Those chimes are freaky!!!

  • The kids are taking crazy...

    "What about our toys???"

    "ohhhhh....."

    "ITS A EARTHQAUKE!"

  • You think if your on the shitter in a earthquake you would get off.

  • awesome footage, good job capturing it. 3 min of shaking sounds unheard of to me

  • ''What about our toys!?'', omg I love it!

  • Mikedelike: Lots of factors are involved in how much damage a quake delivers. From the distance from the quake to the make up of the soil around the fault, and ofcourse type of buildings. Small one or two level houses will bend and sway with a quake. Multi-level buildings of concrete and rebar.

  • This was HAARP! Lets see, Nicoli tesla was the one that figured out a HAARP like weapon using Ionoshpere and what date did Haiti Quake happen? Jan 12th. and what day was Tesla Burried? Jan 12th! Happy Anniversery! . Take a look at 1927 in wikipedia, when Tesla was working on his Ionosphere projects, and the Earthquakes that happened all over world. Could they be related? And Iranian Scientist BOMBED earlier that day by NWO Jews and CIA! Divert the News with HAARP!

  • @Mikedelike The Haiti quake was muck closer to Port Au Prince than this quake was to Anchorage. As a consequence, both waves of the quake hit at once there, and were spread-out in Anchorage.

  • I wish We San Francisco Bay Area Residents have a house that can withstand a 7.9 quake. Were still worried about the Hayard going off. And My niece who lives in the San Gabriel Valley in LA wish they had a home that can withstand a 7.9 quake too because they are worried about the puente hills fault

  • LA should be more worried about the large Dam by the city. I live in the Bay Area too. I think we have 13 major faults here. Haward long over due. The green valley near my house, The San Andreas and so on. Isn't the Berkeley Stadium slowly being ripped in half by the fault moving a little every year?

  • I live near the Green Valley fault in Solano county too. by the way RIP all who died by the 8.9 quake in Chile. Also My friend lives in Berkeley and they worry about the Hayward Fault A lot because some of the buildings do not meet the latest earthquake standards. I also have relatives living near the New Madrid fault and the major fault areas in the Philippines. I would be scared to go there because if a 6.9 or 7.3 quake hit those areas it would be worse than Loma Prieta.

  • @dinfg6.. Well the Loma Prieta was 70 miles away from San Francisco and obviously all natural marsh land and fill areas were amplified during the shaking. But sitting right next to the fault would be a whole different experience of hell on Earth. I like how the lady says "its like a ride". most quakes I've been in felt like shaking back and forth. The Loma Prieta was like trying to stand on a boat being hit by large waves. a sort of fluid motion sensation.

  • I lived in Daly City at the time and I know I live right on the San Andreas Fault. and I always wondered why my house stood while the Marina and Cypress fell down. and i noticed that the epicenter of Loma Prieta was at someones house in Santa Cruz in the old video.

  • @bluevidcam I was here in Alaska for this earthquake, and it wasn't like any earthquake I've experienced before. And trust me, I've been in a lot. The lady said early in the video "it's rolling" and she was exactly right. It lasted an extremely long time and felt rolling like on a ship, not shaking like most earthquakes make.

  • That's how the Loma Prieta was.. Like "Rolling pins" or as I explained it to someone it was like standing on a boat hit by a wake. And ours was nothing near the size of this but I was on land fill which amplified it. They have to be a good 100 miles from it if it was 7.9

  • @bluevidcam yeah it was on the denali fault 176 miles from anchorage, which is where this video looks like it is being shot. this video does not show how big the rolling really felt

  • mikedike! I live here in Alaska, where this was at, and lived in Anchorage, where this vid is from! What you don,t know is the epic center was about 250 miles away,in an unpopulated (wilderness area of Alaska), we just felt it here, because it was so large! Save your bullshit!

  • @Mikedelike Maybe because all the houses were built like shit...

  • @Mikedelike ANd plus, the Hatians arent finacially prepared for earthquakes. they dont have earthquake proof structures...

  • @Mikedelike the poor construction of nearly all of Haiti's buildings was also a cause of so much destruction

  • A Yeti farted outside.

  • Yes standing in the kitchen with ALL those knifes in a earthquake

    Thats SOOO smart

  • haha the kids are so cute, "What about my toys?!"

  • @TheElementskater88 did you read the name of the video? It was a 7.9. The Haiti one was 7.0. Dumbass. The one in Haiti was worse but this one Alaska was stronger. Go get a f****ing mind.

  • WHAT ABOUT MY TOYS???? how cute!!!

  • isn't the first logical thought that goes through your mind during an earthquake: "get out of the building!" ????

it is silly how you stay indoors :o you could have gotten hurt! :(

  • They were far enough away from the center for there not to be damage. When you live in an area with a lot of earthquakes, you can tell. Also - leaving a stable house to stand in a wooded area isn't the best idea in an earthquake, either. =)

  • people are taught to stand under doorways... outside might be dangerous too with all the power poles and cables etc..

  • Hold the goddamn camera still.

  • its an EARTHQUAKE DUMBASS!!!!

  • it was the intensity, where we were, of a 4 or five, but for three minutes.

  • Wow freakin losers i just had a 6.5 hit now that was fun.....NOT!!!!!

  • let me guess, your in eureka? it was fun, cleaning up wasn't.

  • @nxmoparmatt84 Lol yah im in Eureka but i didnt have to clean up too too much

  • i did, murphys market and winco were a mess, the mall is fucked, my friends apartment was to, my house did pretty good, but its pretty damn unsettling to be in a big as house that moves like that.

  • the 7.9 that these people had in alaska was a 7.9 because its the amount of energy released over a certain amount of time, the one here in eureka was a fast release of energy due to quick tectonic slip which scored 6.5 in 14 seconds, any longer and we would have been in deep trouble. keep prepared tho, we have 7 days to wait for a big aftershock which there is still a 80% chance of happening

  • @nxmoparmatt84 Well i hope there isnt an after shock

  • LMAO, people like you just make me laugh

  • @holybojangles You are so lame you dont even make me laugh

  • LOL

  • @holybojangles Take that mofo nah im jkin i dont even care

  • WOW! They're pretty calm! IT'S A 7.9!

  • 2:15 Under the cupboards...ya thats a great place to stand lol wow

  • what about our toys? lol

  • There were couple of 5.0 this year around ANC.

  • I remember this!!! it was long and big!

  • cheers to best place in world from Greece :)

  • 7.9, sorry. we had 6.9er once. hit down in kodiak. scared the shit out of me..

  • LOL 7.9? hahaha over-exaggerate much? it seems like a 3.4 or something. cuz the 4.0 earthquake a couple weeks back was worse than this. everything shook even though it lasted like 10 seconds. there was a better one couple years back where all the cars were shaking and alarms were blaring

  • Just remember that this video was filmed near the city of Anchorage, almost 300 km (about 180 miles) away from the epicenter, which was located in Central Alaska! Can you imagine how powerful must have been the shaking at the epicenter?

  • i live in the city of anchorage.

  • You live there and you're still not listening.

The epicenter (the place this quake started) was over 180 miles (a long ways) away. The further you are from the epicenter, the longer the quake. If you still need assistance wrapping your head around this let us know.

  • HAHA

"mah, get over by this door"

    mom: "no this is better!"

    hahaha classic

    crazy footage though

  • the kids are funny:What about our toys?

    lol

  • Thanks for the footage. I had the pleasure of being in that earthquake myself, brings back memories.

  • weird. almost 4 min.

  • theres earthquakes all the time in alaska

    there usually not intense tho

  • it's good it lasted this long when earthquakes are shorter they're more violent

  • My god that went on for a god few minutes. It was light but long lasting. I would hate to be the person closest to the epicenter, it must have rocked the area pretty violently.

  • 7.9. Were they 600 miles from the epicenter?

  • It's difficult to tell how strong the shaking is from videos because the camera is moving with the person and you can't sense the momentum. Also, how "bad" an earthquake is is determined not just by the magnitude but the ground velocity (how fast is shakes back and forth). This determines whether the earthquake is violent (Northridge) or gentle (this one).

  • dang i would HATE to like in alaska. erathquakes, tsunamis, bears, valcanos, eath defining weather, and it goes on! i am soooooo glad ilive in florida.

  • Comment removed

  • There have been Tsunamis in Alaska! Do your research before posting! There was an entire fortress-like light house that was wiped-off the face of the planet killing all of the Coast Guard crew that was stationed there, entire villages were wiped-out in '64! How can you even say there are no Tsunamis? Do you know how they're caused?

  • Thanks for sharing! We lived on old seward south of huffman and was out of state when it hit. my gf said it was amazing and now I can see it.

  • WoW 7.9? It seemed so sedate.... still if something like this hit my area i would be just a bit scared...just a bit lol That's pretty cool about the house being a 64 survivor, must be a pretty lucky home. Nice video

  • HAHA that was the morning after my 21st birthday, LMAO! I thought I was still drunk!!!

  • The kids:What about our toys?Waaaah

  • wow the S waves went for ever. About how many miles away from the epicenter were you?

  • I was in Anchorage when it happened. we were over 250 miles from the epic center. The only reson there wasn't much damage is its epic center was in a remote wilderness ,roadless area of Alaska. Simple.

  • im sittin on the toilet... LOL

  • umm 7.9 or 0.79 ? lol

  • how cute are those kids! :D

  • do u now the size of it in your area?

  • i could hardly tell there was an earthquake because the camera was moving around too much. next time it would be better to keep it sitting still, focused on one place.

  • Um... The next time I am in a 7.9 (!) Earthquake I will keep that in mind!!!

  • >.> yeah, i kinda didn't think about that lol

  • Oh yeah it felt like being on a boat a little. We were rehearsing in a studio in Wasilla and before the earth moved I remember getting soooo dizzy and the quake didn't actually move the earth for about 10 seconds after I got dizzy.

The 5.7 yesterday scared my kids... they didn't know what it was ;0)

  • the one yesterday woke me up and made me dizzy right before it happened as well!

  • I remember this earthquake LOL

Before anything started to move I felt like I was going to pass out. The cars were shaking back and forth.

We just had one a few minutes ago but it was only a 5.7... I was trying to find a video of an earthquake for my kids. I was hoping to show them why we need to get under a doorway and away from the windows.

Unfortunately this video is a bad example for that LOL

  • The quake was already going for maybe 15 seconds by the time I started filming. There was a loud rumble; the only example that I can use is a jet going-over the house, except you felt it in your body through the ground, before you began to feel the shaking. Because we were far-away from the epicenter, there wave was very long and they hit at different times. If this quake had struck closer to Anchorage than it did, half the town would have been flattened.

  • Was that really 7.9???...

  • Yes, it was a ways away; that's why it lasted so long.

  • Good video. I admire your calm. Earthquake's scare the hell outta me!

  • gentle

  • Whenever they last a long time you know it's a huge one a long ways away. Cool footage. How often do you feel quakes in Alaska? In Hawaii we feel one or two every year or so, but only recently have I ever felt a huge one (6.8 centered 10 miles from me)

  • Very amazing footage though the shaking doesn't look so intense.
