No more cuts are scheduled. I talked to a bit of an expert on the subject within Moderaterna. He claimed that the goal is to have 50 000 professional soldiers, plus another 30 000 people within the Homeguard. Plus that the Homeguard is going to receive additional funds for more training. The reason they can do that is because they're not going to disband any more units or weapon systems. I mean, just scrapping the still very modern Viggen cost 3 000 000 000 SEK!

Conscription during peacetime will be abolished on the 1 July this year. And the result will probably be similar to other countries that have abolished conscription, they have had problems recruiting enough people and the quality of soldiers might also decrease.
With a professional army we will never reach the quantity we need to defend the entire country. It will also cost more money and the armed forces has already had economical problems.

5.56 is accurate, but the bullet is very light in dense foliage. Heavier bullets ARE better in forests. Swedes (7.62 x 51) and Finns (7.62 x 39) like heavier bullets with more accurate single-shot fire.
It is really stupid to waste bullets in vain. Learn the soldiers to shoot. Life is not a movie.

Swedish army is a joke, they never took part in WW1 & WW2 They might have the coolest "toys" but they wouldnt be able to beat their little brother Finland. Finnish soldiers killed 226,875 soviet soldiers during WW2 same time with only 26,662 casualties and we kept our country. Soviet union had 6,541 tanks and 3,880 airplanes against Finlands 30 tanks and 180 airplanes. Finnish army has still 350.000 soldiers being one of the biggest armies in Europe, being 3 times bigger than all of the nordic

Other aircraft couldnt see us not on radar, not visually and we had no jammers of our own with us. Our weapons and tactics were limited by Red Force rules, and in an exercise like this the Red Force is always supposed to die, but even without our AMRAAMs and data links we got eight or 10 kills, including a Typhoon. Today, our army gets 40.1 billion skr (Is the same as Finland and Norway's defense budget together) but most of it goes directly to develop our weapons and equipment and thus make it so that our defense is very expensive and very modern. However, it is not enough to defend the country from an attack, but in foreign service and other tasks, the Swedish soldiers are among the best.
you are correct the Swedish goverment is cutting the funds from the Swedish army but that doesnt mean that Sweden has a bad army.. Of course you would have ask yourself how you define "better equipment", but the facts are that the Swedish Home Guard is armed with a license built version of the H&K G3A3 assault rifle equipped with an Aimpoint red dot sight, support gunners uses the FN MAG (I believe it is designated M240 in the US) and DMRs and snipers are trained on the L96A1 AW (by some attributed as the best sniper rifle in the world).
First of all no we didn't participate during those wars.
But we did send Swedish volunteers to Finland both in ww1 and the winter war, including sending supplies and stuff oh and not to mention helping defending Turku.
And I also wish we could have done more of course to help our brethren.

They use eq. that is at best the same as the swedish military, a lot of it is old stuff rejected by the swedish army. There is a reason that the homeguard is a sort of last line of defence....

its true that the homeguard is acting like a last line of defence but thats not their only job. one of their jobs is to secure and hold strategical positions... And i can tell you that the homeguard does not have bad stuff, they are trained get atleast as good training as the army

5.56 is accurate, but the bullet is very light in dense foliage. Heavier bullets ARE better in forests. Swedes (7.62 x 51) and Finns (7.62 x 39) like heavier bullets with more accurate single-shot fire.
It is really stupid to waste bullets in vain. Learn the soldiers to shoot. Life is not a movie.

also some people learn to use and shoot an m16 at basic training in Sweden to familiarise foreign weapons.

Swedish army is a joke, they never took part in WW1 & WW2 They might have the coolest "toys" but they wouldnt be able to beat their little brother Finland. Finnish soldiers killed 226,875 soviet soldiers during WW2 same time with only 26,662 casualties and we kept our country. Soviet union had 6,541 tanks and 3,880 airplanes against Finlands 30 tanks and 180 airplanes. Finnish army has still 350.000 soldiers being one of the biggest armies in Europe, being 3 times bigger than all of the nordic

Remember that there was a lot of Swedes that volunteered to fight alongside the Finns in WW2 to help them from the invading Soviets. And remember that Sweden has several hundreds more tanks and IFV's than Finland (340 Leopard 2 compared to Finlands 91, 509 CV90 compared to Finland 102) and so on and so on. And Finlands main assault rifle is a joke; you better use the AK-47. And last but not least, Sweden is ranked 26th and Finland 40th by expenditures. To conclude, you don't know shit!

Our Swedish homeguard has won over Navy seals and our Jas 39 gripen have won over the american F16.
Sweden army cost about 40 billion years, The finn have only 21 billion.

Well they should be better considering Gripen was introduced in 1996 and the F-16 in 1978.
However a Hungarian Gripen mananged to "shot" down an Italian Eurofighter Typhoon (introduced in 2003) during an exercise.

It was from someone organisition who mapped the world's armed forces in terms of equipment and training. In number 3 came Sweden because we are currently moving from a invasion defense to the a international army.
Our Swedish Homeguard has better equipment than many special forces around the world, or something similar

Today, our army gets 40.1 billion skr (Is the same as Finland and Norway's defense budget together) but most of it goes directly to develop our weapons and equipment and thus make it so that our defense is very expensive and very modern. However, it is not enough to defend the country from an attack, but in foreign service and other tasks, the Swedish soldiers are among the best.

you are correct the Swedish goverment is cutting the funds from the Swedish army but that doesnt mean that Sweden has a bad army.. Sweden has one of the most modern tecnological army in the world.. we have a small army for sure but its a very strong army. The Swedish army is one of the most well trained armies in the world.

Of course you would have ask yourself how you define "better equipment", but the facts are that the Swedish Home Guard is armed with a license built version of the H&K G3A3 assault rifle equipped with an Aimpoint red dot sight, support gunners uses the FN MAG (I believe it is designated M240 in the US) and DMRs and snipers are trained on the L96A1 AW (by some attributed as the best sniper rifle in the world).

First of all no we didn't participate during those wars.
But we did send Swedish volunteers to Finland both in ww1 and the winter war, including sending supplies and stuff oh and not to mention helping defending Turku.
And I also wish we could have done more of course to help our brethren.

AK5 är ungefär 4 kg.
M16 är 3,2 - 3,5 broende på utrusning tror jag.
Däremot känns ak5:an som en metallkloss tycker jag, jämfört med M16 som KÄNNS mycket lättare med tanke på utformningen.
Dessutom tycker jag att M16 är lite smidigare. Men det är ju bara jag.
