I am a apprentice spraypainter from South Afria and I find Spies Hecker to be the best paint out there. Obviouslly locally produced paint Metalux is pretty decent too but the colours from the scale is really bad.....
Actually using the wrist cocking method the way he does is nothing wrong with. When you are painting a side of a car it is not easy to cover from side to side with each layer. So you use that method of his to make the paint thin on the ends because you are going double coat the thin part as you are going to overlap the thin part when painting the other half of the side. But its not for the best for the flakes of the base to lay down correctly.
If the outcome is perfect why not move quickly?. If they hired him chances are he knows what he's doing. I paint at work and am getting a pretty good eye and feel for painting now. It all depends on how the gun is setup and how you implement it. I know what you guys are saying though it does look like he's swatting flies sometimes :).l
my car is dark blue but i want to paint it just a factory color white. could you please tell me what all i need so fare as sand paper types, and the whole run down in step. please help me out i really want to do this myself.i have a gun just got to buy the white paint and what else i need.check out my channel so see the car. thanks very much if you can help
u know what,,,, i was just going 2 say that e aint even spraying correctly but i have just read that people have already spotted that. the way he sprays e will end up with thin paint at the end of each panel n thick in the centre of the panel because e keeps cockin his wrist. poor technique.the car company who i work 4 would have u up on that.
i love his clear technique, the only possible defect with that speed and overlap is a little peel, but with the right reducer, and give or take a little on the hardner, its not and issue, its also my favorite way to do it because you have the best overal view of your atomized product being applied to the panel as it melds and flows.
GREAT CLEAR...BAD PAINTING TECHNIQUE just shows when u have 800 dollar gun people get away with horible techniqes but the result looks great wich is what matters...NOT THE RIGHT WAY TO PAINT...SHIT IF I PAINTED LIKE THAT I WOULD HAVE RUNS ON MY PAINT

this guy has horrible technique id never let him paint my car ive never used a hlvp gun but theres no way to get even coverage without letting off the trigger like that hes arching the spray like crazy its a wonder its not running off the car well the probably didnt show that part it really pissses me off when people try to teach people the wrong way no im not perfect but pick up any text book and it will tell you this isnt right
nice work, what about they other 99 percent of the population that cant afford a 60 k paint both and 700 gun. Considering most viewers are probably working on a car worth less then your compressor hose, great video, i enjoyed the steps, now post a video for that guy that just purchased a craftsman compressor and home depot gun to paint his shit box car in his yard. That would be much more appreciated then this 5 grand insurance job in the both.
hey thnks for the upload. i'm ok spring wings but when it comes to spraying bonnets (hoods) and roof i seem to have orange peel or fading. is it cos that i am not overlaping close enough and spraying to far?
We need more information to figure this out, which basecoats were used, what primers, what were the dry times ,etc. It would be best if you called me at
im not sure if anyone has asked this b4 but i work for Ford in England doing accident repair work and the other day i painted this pegueot and the colour was called babylone red and after i done it all the laquar had poped and when i polished it all the poping had gone white and it showed up on the red paint, what is the cause of poping do you know?? thanks :)
You do not need two seperate guns for most factory paint jobs. However, many people like to have thier base gun with a little larger tip to accommodate larger flake sizes and a smaller tip size for the clear for a smoother clearcoat. If the can afford 2 guns.
@Abbertont I say SATA makes the best guns,I have tried to spray clear with an iwata and......naaa a SATA 3000RP does the job better and faster, iwata struggles to spit out the clear
@Abbertont Only for slickin out the clear, for me, Sata all the way...for getting that factory texture... I have an lph400 and i do not like spraying metallic basecoats with it! Sata Is a far superior spray gun, unless you can tell me about the new Iwata Supernova? Anyone?
Supernova works well for spraying clearcoat but I still do not like it for basecoat. My problem with the Iwata guns is that it is very difficult for me to get a respectable finish out of one using their recommended pressure. I have to raise the pressure above and beyond what they list in order to get the gun to perform to my liking. It is probably just how I shoot, but a Sata performs the way I want it to and I don't have to 'cheat' at it to get it to work. It works from the start
@sixt9coug The Devilbiss Tekna is a great all around gun, you can get a two gun kit for like 450! I never cared much for Devilbiss but now my view has changed. Its nice with heavy metallics, but i still choose my jet3000 with the 1.5 tip for any application!
I forgot about the Tekna. It is a great gun to use as well. That is coming from somewhat that also hated Devilbiss guns for a long time. I couldn't stand them after suffering with plastic fluid tips fluttering on their finish line guns 7 years ago.
The Tekna is nice, and so is the CVi.
I prefer the Sata 3000 1.2RP for almost anything. Sealer, basecoat (water or solvent) and clearcoat.
That is true about all the old paint systems, however with alot of the new pearls in todays colors and tri-stage paints you will tend to get more paint in the outer regions and with these paints will end up with darker colors. I talked about this to some of the people from PPG who train the newest techniques and they say that this is now an accepted practice.
the whole wrist flick thing is completely unnecessary and a bad habit, the gun isn't shooting a 90 degrees anymore and is over-spraying in the distance.
is the sata rp just a water base spray gun or is it just like the hvlp where you can spray regular base coat clear. i planning to switch to a sata soon my iwata like everyone says sprays too slow. i want to get things done quicker and still have at awesome finish.
So....this Digital version retails at about $700 plus or minus? Where can i buy one. I see that it can be used for both paint and clear....is that correct.
you should check on your settings because ive used sikkens for a while now and have never had a problem with coverage. are u using colorbuild plus? because that should help even more
hi- i'm thinking about getting an rp 1.2- right now i'm clearing with an iwata 1.3 lph400. the reason i want to switch to the sata rp is because of the speed- as the iwata is a VERY slow gun. but the only reson i haven't switched is because i've heard that the rp is an overspray monster. is that true? thanks.
The RP stands for reduced pressure, but this is compared to a Sata HVLP.
The Sata Rp is going to put out more material quicker than the LPH400. Which is what you need if you are going to paint quicker. Therefore you are going to get alittle more overspray, but I think that once you adjust to the speed of the gun you will be very happy with it. I have not had anyone switch back once they start spraying with a SATA RP. Price would be $699.99.
The intial inlet pressure for a sata jet 3000 is 29-35 lbs coming into the gun. In order to meet the government specs for being an HVLP gun the max pressure is 29 lbs coming into the gun. Even though a gun says "max pressure is 29 lbs", this only means in order to meet the EPA requirement for being classified as an "HVLP" gun. Many people will turn the air pressure up 2-5 lbs for better atomization. This will not damage the gun as most guns can take twice that pressure.

YES, HORRIBLE painting style, you keep the gun PARALLEL to the panel being sprayed, NOT in an arching motion as he is doing.
