I love how Kirk would spend an entire episode trying to fuck his way of trouble, Picard would try to talk his way out of it and Sisko would drop a fucking bioweapon on your head and tell you he's The Sisko bitch.
Haha, I love how you edited Rocks and Shoals to make it look like Sisko killed Keevan.
DS9 was the last best Star Trek series, my favorite of them, though I do like TOS and TNG as well, but can't stand Voyager and only liked Enterprise Season 4.
Sure, he may have been an accessory to murder, he may have had crazy visions, he may have poisoned a planet, he may have given his crew impossible orders, he may have tried to destroy the Earth with deadly lasers... but Sisko was still more sane than Janeway.
Sisko was the bestest captain, no doubt about it- but Avery Brooks's overacting gives William Shatner a run for his money!!!!! Kathryn Janeway on the other hand was a poorly-written captain, but Kate Mulgrew is a first-rate actor/actress.
@SgtHydra Archer was a great captain. Especially since he was so hands on. And since he was setting the stage for latter events. And he was play a critical role in history he quite had to. But they all had their own qualities. Chris Pine is the only captain who sucked imo.
Janeway doesn't get consideration as, well, go watch Voyager. You'll see what I mean. Sisko would have taken one look at Janeway, and she would have burst into flame. Or she would have disintegrated into a pile of pure *shame*.
The last part where you get crazy with the edits.. you should separate those. They remind me a lot of the Jandrew edits and were definitely the best part of the video.
Heres the thing though considering that most of worf's ideas usually include killing the opposition such as in I borg when he recommended killing the soon to be named Hugh and make it look like and an accident and and that every confrontation with romulans, maquis, dominion, cardassian anyone with the (last?/first?) name of Duras, random aliens, rival starfleet officers, and or oppossing soccer players(can you catch the refrence?) can be solved with their death he should be onboard with this.
Sisko was the best captain, No doubt about it! He had a realism and complexity to his character unique amongst the 5 series' captains. The episode 'Far Beyond the Stars,' directed by Avery Brooks himself - @ 3:32 - was particularly moving and exceptional drama.
The most well acted and well rounded Captain for sure. No other Captain had the depth of Sisko his relationship with his son and father by the amazing Avery Brooks is something that hasnt been replicated yet in Trek.
But the best Captain? for me.......yes, BUT Kirk (the adventurer) Picard (the diplomat) would give Sisko (the soldier) a good run for his money....
sisko was brilliant as were all the captains, but captain janeway was the best in my opinion, she was caring and compassionate, yet badass if she wanted to be.kate mulgrew was damn fine back in the day too.
LOL... patience and total sanity. He really WAS awesome when he was angry. I love all the Trek captains in different ways, but there's a special place in my heart for 'A Captain Called Hawk'. =)
DestinedJedi: Of course DS9 is a Star Trek series, I don't think anyone is really saying otherwise. But that doesn't mean that ALL Star Trek fans HAVE to like it, any more than they HAVE to like the other series. I really don't care whether or not Gene Roddenberry would have approved of it (as great a man as he was). He's dead now and Star Trek must evolve if it is to live on. That being said, I think DS9 is a very entertaining series, but I sure would not want our future to turn out that way
@pete275 well, all of them had bad acting moments especially william shatner. i think in terms of acting skills patrick stewart was the best, in terms of series importance will shatner's was the best, but in terms of character development and intrigue avery brooks' captain sisko was the best. just my opinion though
Some of this video has been edited and doesn't represent what really took place in the episodes. at 3:03 Sisko did not kill that Vorta. The Vorta surrendered and was takend prisoner. If you're going to make an argument, don't make up stuff.
Wow. You completely missed my point. And it sounds as if you know nothing of the Trek philosophy. I never argued that DS9 isn't a great show. I just said that it wasn't Star Trek proper, which you erroniously equate to "crappy alien of the week shit." Star Trek, on a less supeficial level, is a morality play, a hopeful, utopian future for humanity with strong political and moral undertones. Its an intellectual, introspective show on a level that you seem to have completely missed.
Yes it was Star Trek proper, it was just that it was set on the frontier and the farthest reaches of the Federation. People were doing it fairly tough in a pretty unstable region of space.
Roddenberry's vision of the future was optimism to the point of insanity or foolishness. There's no way in hell the human race will ever turn out right. The only thing I look forward to is seeing all humans die either in nuclear war or some huge global disaster. Evil, murdering, sadistic, primal BEASTS, all of us!
Yes, I think it's obvious I hate the human race. I'm going to get back to DS9. Your calling DS9 "not Star Trek" is insulting because it sounds like you're in denial of not wanting it to be part of the universe you want. (Really, all the easy solutions they find for troubles in TOS and TNG is just plain annoying.) DS9 is canon and millions of people will support this. It IS Star Trek. Accept that.
I understand that the writers wanted a darker captain (no pun) to complete their darker view of the Federation when they decided to cornhole Roddenberry's vision, but Sisko almost always dives off the deck of the USS Sanity to the point that it kills the Trek philosophy.
In the same way that a plot taking place in present-day Chicago doesn't necessarily mean that the story will be an "American tale," simply having the show take place in Federation space doesn't make it Star Trek.
While The Sisko may be very over-the-top at times, DS9 is the only Trek with any kind of emotion or interesting plot. It's not crappy alien of the week shit. I guess if you think that sort of thing is the pinnacle of Trek, well, it makes sense that you wouldn't like DS9. DS9 broke the mold and became something greater than just a remake of the original series with different characters and better costumes.
Amen brother! DS9 has always been my favorite of the Trek series, mostly because it actually has realistic darker overtones. Life isn't all exploration parties and first contacts you know. I was particularly fond of the Dominion war, as this illustrated how, even in the 24th century, human nature still remains fairly constant. Ever since Sisko's first experiences in the Cellestial Temple in the pilot episode Emissary, I've always found Sisko to be a much more identifiable character.
I disagree we explore our lives in either the same or similar sense that the trek characters explore space. Furthering our knowledge of the world we live in and learning something about ourselves in the process. I've always found much of trek to be a metaphor for life itself.
Any kind of emotion? So you don't think episodes from the other series like "city on the edge of forever" or "the offspring" weren't emotional? TNG overall wasn't a remake of the original series it started out that way but once the good writers came on board it became it's own show. Star trek is not about the aliens of the week it's always been about the human condition.
pandagenma, wow. Based on what you said, you must have really HATED Star Trek before DS9.
"DS9 is the only Trek with any kind of emotion or interesting plot." Sticking just to TNG: Data creates and loses his daughter; Data meets his father; Data meets his "mother"; Tasha Yar is killed; Tasha Yar returns to die a meaningful death during the battle of Khitomer; the "Darmok" episode; Picard spends a lifetime living on an alien world slowly succumbing to a star going supernova, etc.
I don't know if the actor who played Sisko was just a bad actor or if he just didn't get it, but Sisko constantly overacts to the point of self parody.
Steward and (I think) Mulgrew were both stage actors before Trek, so the fact that Brooks was a stage actor should be a credit to him. I was referring to his voice acting.
