I remember the first time I saw this I thought, "OMG SHE DIED!!!"

Then I found out it was a dream and it made a WHOLE lot more sense! And I was like, :-)

Actually in the show, Batgirl actually dies. But don't worry, in the comics, she just gets paralyzed from the waist down and is forced to fight crime behind a desk. Though, that is still a pretty bad fate.

No. This episode was "Over the Edge"...and it was all a hallucination by Barbara Gordon. It's revealed that during the fight with Crane, he blasted her with his fear toxin.

In the comics, Barbara is paralyzed, but not from a fall. She was shot in the spine by the Joker in Alan Moore's "The Killing Joke". Since she can't be Batgirl anymore, she took up the mantle of Oracle, aids Batman where she can, and is the de facto leader of the Birds of Prey.

This isnt actually happening. Its just a nightmare Batgirl is having because of Scarecrow.

She is even alive in Batman Beyond as the Commissioner.
