very nice rig man but i dont understaand thing.why athlon II and not phenom 4 quad core that has to be lot faster and better but well still looking awesome
@zzlpokiju As much as it seems otherwise, even the top CPUs are useless for mining. Too little return for the power they suck. So, it makes better sense in terms of power usage to get a cheapo CPU that draws very little power.
It's a cool hobby, but what is the comparative value of a bit coin vs. overhead investment + power consumption. I imagine this has been debated to death as I'm only recently researching bit coin. But ultimately you are trading US (probably) dollars into virtual currency. I'm really interested in how this will turn out in the long term.
Sorry I didn't read the comments section to see what temps you were getting. Think I'll stick to open case racks with extenders, my first Antec 900 miner runs at 68c with a modest OC but open case just helps you get an extra 20-40 mh a card, that adds up!
(continued) If you throw everything into the case then try to start it up and something goes wrong, you'll be tearing out your hair, pulling parts, checking connections etc., all of which is much harder inside the case. And if the problem is a short you'll have pull the whole board out.
Nice video, but you did it wrong. Ideally you install the CPU and memory first because doing it outside the case is easier. Then install one graphics card and the PSU so you can check that the system actually boots up first.
@nlucctw2 not cheap compared to USD prices, 1450 NOK which is approx. 250 USD each. But they were the last to be found. Bought 8 and build two identical boxes of the one you see in the video.
@Winst0nOBoogie the two top most cards are running at close to 90c, but you can either down clock them or place them in a cooler room (<18c). You can also even out the temp by laying the box down.
4 5870 with onli a x2 250? O.O Is tooooooo cpu limited!
ruk1990 2 days ago
@ruk1990 eh, no. The CPU is not used for mining, because CPUs sucks at mining. You don't need a fancy CPU, buy the cheapest there is.

its all very expensive and the electric bill vs what you could sell the coins for. figure out the first year would be cool

fastbitcoinmining . tk - Nehe's miner creates inflation. It mines about 200 coins a day. So sell your coins before it's to late.

you can do 4x crossfire? i thought only nvidia did more than two cards together
TheCruzmeister 2 months ago
@TheCruzmeister they are not running in 4x crossfire. I run Linux, so I don't need any crossfire to make use of all 4 gfx cards.

How much does this setup cost?
Also where do you keep it to try to keep the temp down, is a loft a good place to keep a bit miner ?

@deweys it's a hobby. Long term it may or may not be profitable. Nobody knows. I see it as an interesting experiment.

@phreneticdotnet Completely agree, it's very interesting. I wasn't bashing miners in any way.

@mikethebodacious I get around 65-68c if I only use three cards. Adding a fourth card increases temp 15-20c

Excellent job dude. So you like that Antec case? What kind of temps you get?
