Let me tell you guys what I think the problem here is; we have 3 of the most famous Khans from the early 90`s, right up to a 20 years` career life span for each. We`ve got a true legend, A.Bachchan who`s been @ the Bharat Film Industry for nearly 40 years and also Akshay Kumar.
Normally, sticking to the 90`s, the true `King` must be an actor who outsells other stars by making box-office successes. The problem is that all of these actors have had box-office flops also; so still won`t help.
Therefore, I think people must resolve the issue in the more traditional way. Forgee about the utter nonsense and lack of good music being produced nowadays. Forget about the comedies nowadays which seems to be the trend at this moment. This will only last for a few more years until the Bharat Industry changes; music and artists also will change in the process, a bit more like going back to the early 90`s with a different mindset, selection of different actresses and actors.
An actor who wants to be @ the top in Bharat Film Industry has to have the time in front of him for improvement on acting skills. He must be able to entertain, to be a good dancer, an action man, to be romantic and have a voice that draws the publics` attention. He has to be Commercial, i.e to be able to sell a film not just in India nowadays, but also internationally.
I like all 5 actors and I have seen Salman and Amir (KHAN`S) early films. They can act very well in all types of films.
I would rate Salman Khan as top actor because he is versatile, and very nostalgic. He has maintained his youth throughout the years by rigorous training exercises and a well-adapted diet, enabling him to still perform many dance and action sequences, which many actors of his age cannot do today.
Salman Khan would win my vote because he`s Salman. He has acted in all kinds of films; dramatic, love-romance, action, adventure...all types! He has made some excellent films over the years.

He was poor in Deewana, very average in films like RBGG and Chamatkar. He was unknown but things changed once Baazigar was out. The music of this film helped a lot with the films` success. His other release Darr in 1993 was a total mish-mash of overacting and childish (or monkey-like) stammering K-I-R-A-N

@pearl1729 I agree with you. Sharukh Khan is very self-hyped and he does it with the help of the media to a certain extent. He was absolutely nothing before the release of Baazigar in 1993. He was poor in Deewana, very average in films like RBGG and Chamatkar. He was unknown but things changed once Baazigar was out. The music of this film helped a lot with the films` success. His other release Darr in 1993 was a total mish-mash of overacting and childish (or monkey-like) stammering K-I-R-A-N

In both films, SRK played in a negative role. I guess that`s what the public wanted to see from him. Otherwise, he`s a very very good media player and nothing more apart from that.
With his 70+-a-day cigarette smoking habit, he won`t last very long, not even at the age of 60!!
Akshay Kumar, Aamir Khan and Salman are better actors - I still support Salman Khan for being number 1. When it comes to versatility in acting for different genres of films, Salman Khan wins.
