Yes, unless you're performing live and mistakes will be less noticeable, then it's always best to work on multiple tracks. The vocal track especially is very easy to edit, so you can do your best in a relatively short time. Otherwise, I can testify that a piece like this requires lots of time and, for me, lost sleep, to do to satisfaction.
@Giotto1400 Thank you again. I've had a listen to yours now and it is lovely guitar and fine singing. Thank you for taking the time & the great suggestions - very kind of you. Merry Christmas. 8o)
Don't mention it! It's a piece worth revisiting, I think, for its universal appeal and also for the challenges it presents to a singer and guitar player, not to mention one person doing both. I have never recorded it the way you do, BTW, with the voice and guitar together; I did mine on separate tracks and it was easier.
@Giotto1400 So true! Yes, now that I'm a bit more experienced, I've tried separate tracks on others songs. I might have a better chance if I focus on one, then the other. Will try this again in the New Year. Thanks again! 8o)
@Giotto1400 Thank you very much. I have not worked on it - somehow I thought that I really couldn't do it much better than I already have - I might make it worse. But now you have me re-considering it. Maybe in the New Year. Thank you for your comment. 8o)
Thank you for your answer. But maybe you can remember where you found it or who arranged it? Is it in the key of D? There are many bersions out there, but most of them are pretty hard to play while singing or are not that beautiful. Yours is both.
@feltingme Hi - thanks again. Sorry I have no idea where it came from the chords were on a photocopied paper that I no longer have, and I don't recall any names on it. But it looks to me like it's in the key of D, at least that's where I start. I hope that helps you. I'm not doing anything fancy here, like melody notes, as I don't know how to do them - just p i m a m i arpeggios picking and standard tuning. I hope that helps - that's all I can give you.
@feltingme No, I just tried it once and did not try it again. Some day I will try again. If I ever get it figured out I will post the chords. Good luck and let me know if you try it this way. 8o)
@feltingme Thank you very much - so kind of you! I thought your version was beautiful as well. Sorry, I don't have the music for this any more. I'll bet you could reverse engineer it from the video. 8o)
Your poignant, haunting and angelic rendition has sent a very strong chill down my back...your vocal instrument is indeed a Gift from Above that you are so generous to share with us. We could use your voice in our Folk Mass here in the Big Apple and perhaps even as a soloist! In short, thank you for blessing our ears and our hearts and souls with this spine-tingling presentation.
Thank you kindly, Max. I'm happy to hear that you enjoyed it so much. Yes, I think each one of us has many gifts to be grateful for every day. It was my pleasure to share this music and such a bonus if it is enjoyed.
wow , you have a nice voice, its very dificult to play and sing at the same time , but you do a real good job, with this song, if is your first take, i think it is great, i wish learn that song too ...
I love the way you sing the song, it is very beautiful. I posted easy guitar chords on my version (mine was just a practice run, not the greatest!) and you can get them there and try that. I hear your key a little higher to project your voice more and hear your lovely voice on the lower tones in the head voice. Very nice work and look forward to hearing more! I am always trying to work on improving. I see it as a lifelong adventure! Love singing...and can see you do too.
Thank you for your comments & help, Donna Marie! Yes, I should probably have the nerve to try it a little higher. I will check out your chords. Yes, I do love singing, and am always trying to improve. Thanks again for your help & encouragement!
Thank you! I have an idea what I have to work on - eliminating the picking pauses, and trying not to go faster and faster as the song progresses. Also with the singing, I need more oscuro in the chiaro-oscuro. Better breathing. But yes, it's OK for the first cut, and it's an amazing song.
Agree with the tempo adjustments. Not Sure what chiaro-osuro is, but you sound fine to me. The music sounds like it has much more depth with you singing along.
Oh, sorry, chiaro-oscuro just means lightness & darkness, referring to the high & low parts of the voice in Italian. The professionals are able to blend these parts together for a richer sound. Something like that, anyways - I'm no expert. Thanks again!
