the easy way is to have a straw make one in flate then cut the flate side on each to make a point then put it in you mouth and blow and it can be loud or very low depending on how far you put it in.

^^ i think this is more similar to the clarinet or oboe than the flute

the flute doesn't use a reed

well if you want to get THAT technical, its nothing like a clarinet as they are single-tongued reeds...the oboe is the one one of the two that uses a double tongued reed.

Yes they do, I've seen quite a few that are either made of, or incorporate reeds. In this term a "reed" refers to the TYPE of flute, commonly characterized by that buzzing sound you hear in this video.

When I was a collage student, I heard a friend of mine, who was a oboe player of the collage orchestra, often made similar sound while shaving the reed.

Anyway, I don't imagine that you make two pipes to find the right pitch by cutting one. Very interesting. Thank you.
