im not sure aobut usa but canadas school system goes 4 high school years, 9-12 then an optional fifth year you can take to boost marks or get other credits caled by some students as the victory lap year, (a lot of students take that extra year to to get marks better for unnviersity applications, 3/4 of my grade 12 came back, i just finshed my victory lap this year)
