@mercmarc It was issued in 1956, dunce, and folks needed the FULL 10 minutes to get the idea across. Viewed from 55 years later, it is merely a small footnote and so you can now see that they didn't give a dang if you fell asleep or not.
@Stuurm yea, this was mechanical fuel injection which, while more efficient than carburetors, was less effective than electronic fuel injective, which is more responsive, is able to adjust throttle response more accurately, and can provide a better, cleaner burn.
Electronic Fuel injection was very primitive in the '50's-'70's because the wires/electronic control unit were very weak and susceptible to engine noise/heat.
Mechanical fuel injection had linkage problems etc.
Wow you sure are touchy! When was the last time you had sex? 1956?

@Korv1enigarage The 1957 GM factory promotional films were made in 1956, as is very common in the industry, so it IS a video From 1956.

were there problems with this system? why did it not last into the 70s/80s

@Stuurm In 1965 the 375 hp engine was $526 about 10% of the Corvette cost (very expensive).
In mid 65 the 425 hp 396 became available for $286, more power, less cost, the end of injection.
Because they were expensive and somewhat rare when they broke not everyone knew how to fix them and many systems were replaced with carbs.
A 57-65 fuel injection costs about $5000 today (no engine, injection only), I bought one.

"Today's carburetor is a triumph of engineering research and development with outstanding research and development."
I love it. Just sheer awesome quote really shows you the optimism and "science can do dis" attitude at the time.

How cool it is, to have these little snippits of the past, and to see the early beginnings of something that we expect on every car today.
