As young as you are you should have no trouble getting your fingers in shape. I am a senior citizen and have been very rough on my hands. I was a rodeo rider for several years which is really hard on hands. I have played guitar all my life and have no arthritus in my hands at all. My uncle was a surgeon and he did finger excercises. Snapping etc. I got into the habit. All my joints are stiff and sore except my hands. That guitar and those excercises worked for me.
20? Unless you are suffering from acute arthritis, there is no reason to think that you can't play. The key is to learn it the correct way, practice regularly and have patience. Granted that dexterity and agility are not built overnight, but learning a new thing or two here and there and gradual improvement are very rewarding. Besides, learning music is a fun journey that over time makes you a different person. Can't really explain it, you have to try it for yourself.
thanks for the response, i really wanted to know.. i was asking because you know how gymnast in order to achieve certain fxbility they need to start very young i was wandering if it was the same for the fingers....thanks.
Stupid commentators seem to be all over the place. I don't know why people who don't have anything intelligent to add seem to think they can criticize or put down another regardless of his choice of style or instrument or associations??? Get of the boards go harass your mothers. They deserve you since they raised such morons.
not agree dude. I try to play all types of music, that makes you a better performer, but metal has been always my favourite and I don`t think it is for children. It`d be different if you were talking about punk, then i`d be agree
I own a expensive flamenco guitar. I live in a relatively cold climate in the north of England. What do I do to maintain the cypress wood on my guitar. Do i need a humidifier?how long to I humidify it? Do I leave the humidifier in the case (closed). Does anyone have a $1000 flamenco, what do you do to maitain the wood and inturn maitaining the sound quality. Thanks.
Well I don't own a flamenco guitar but i do own steel strings. I live in Ireland, how further north are you? I personally wouldn't worry too much, I believe we have a relatively balanced humidity (I'm in northwest Ireland). But as far as I know you leave the humidifier in the case. Watch out for central heating as it dries the air. Can you recommend some sites in Ireland/UK to get a spanish/flamenco/classical guitar? Something below £400. Thanks.
Keep it to inside walls, outside of cold cars, and yes, humidify it. Either an in-case humidifier or a room humidifier, or if you have a case take some small tupperware (sandwich size is fine), punch some holes in the top and throw a damp sponge in there, place this in the case. Check on/refresh your humidifier weekly until the cold season is over (50's outside, heat not required at night).

isnt it true the reason it sounds arabic and greek because
spanish players took after those influences when the guitar
first came to spain? i mean didnt they first originate their?
44eelz 1 year ago
@44eelz The guitar originated in Africa and traveled to Europe. Spain was influenced a lot by the Muslim Invasion In the 8th century AD.

@Mattlarrivee all music comes from africa..but i thought the first vague form of a guitar was from asia?
