Finally, somebody who remembers The Emergency night club on M Street! I was just a kid in high school then and seeing Nils rip it up down there changed my life. I switched from bass to guitar and never looked back...
Yeah! The Emergency in Georgetown was I and my future Wife's favorite music venue way back then. Everyone was totally cool and the bands there always gave a great show. Grin with Lofren were awesome. Even shot hoops with Nils at the YMCA in DC! Little guy could hoop!
What a great song from a great underrated band. 1+1 is one of my favorite all time albums - it takes me back to my early teens. I NEVER hear this song on the radio, not even on satellite.
@JohnA559 I agree 1+1 was their best album.Saw them when I was 13 t the Falls Church Community center(I think that's what it was called) in "71.I moved to Australia soon after.Have followed Nils, since then, with Grin,Solo and the E Street Band.I have never lost the faith.
I saw Grin at Painters Mill Music Fair in Owings Mills Maryland in 1971 with Redbone and Josuha, it was a theater in the round and we sat on the edge of the 1 foot tall stage, no one harrased us and there was no need for security...times were so much better than. the Music Fair is long gone...replaced by a B J s...sad.
If you want to buy copys of the old Grin stuff on CD or even old school Vinyl Bob Berberich the singer/drummer for Grin runs a record store in Baltimore MD called Tracks on Wax. He will even sign copys if asked..a super nice guy and a real lost legend of rock n roll
Grin played at dances at Carroll High when I was there in the early '70's....they were bad-ass then, and as far as I'm concerned, "1+1" was a hit record that should have made Grin superstars....Nils is better now than ever....
did you ever see Redbone or Joy of Cooking at the Sylvan Theatre in the shadow of the Washington Monument? Allman Bros & Dead @ RFK? The Who opening the Capital Centre? Fat City with George McGovern or the Nighthawks at The Bayou (w/Pinetop Perkins)?
I've posted pics from some concerts I attended at the Cap Centre and some from a few of the many times that one of my bands played at The Bayou(once with Pat Travers) on Facebook. Cerphe is a friend. He M.C.ed our TV appearance on a local show on channel 20 called Rockin' D.C. There is no nicer human being on the planet! Do you listen to him on 105.9 The Edge now in afternoon drive time?
i remember battle of the bands at wheaton youth center when i first met nils. haven't talked to him in about 10 years now but happy to see local boy nils musical success.

I saw them with Crank in 1971 or 1972 at the TC Williams High School Auditorium, with my friends Jerome Miller and Steve Ballester. Good Show. Saw Nils cut Roy Buchanan (!) in a guitar duel at a show around the same time in a deserted, broken down 1930s amusement park on the Severn River a few miles above the Naval Academy. Edgar Winters White Trash w/Rick Derringer and Johnny Winter were there. Bizarre venue, good show. Anyone else at this show?
I have been reading the comments and remembering some of the clubs and halls-The Emergency ,Far Inn, Alexandria roller rink, Cellar door,Crossroads, Shady Grove. I also remember Grin playing some of the shortest sets in rock, (along with Roy Buchanan)!!!! Oh well !!!!!!!!!!
Can you please repost ": the sun hasn't set on this boy yet" thank you - I still don't understand how this can only have 7,000 views,It was only viewed 6,000 times in the last year( I believe I account for 5,000 of those views) are you old farts in nursing homes !!! anyway thanks for the GRIN songs so us old folks can remember when
So I am a Marylander from College Park. And got to meet alot of bands that latter become famious. the first LP I heard Lofgrin on was Crazy Horse Before Neil Young. THe song Lofgrin did Was Beggers Day . Nils Lofgrin did not get his Due from Bruce Spring steen. And I also met the Winter Brothers And many other Great guitar players growing up. look up crazy horse,s first LP.J@X J@XON
I also saw Grin at the Wheaton CC many moons ago. I remember the drummer played the loudest snare drum ever and Nil's version of Like Rain is something I still remember. Wow!
You're welcome! You missed a couple. search my channel for "Slippery Fingers" and "Back It Up".. I think you'll like them also. I'm going to post "Rock And Roll Crook" soon. You should subscribe. Enjoy!
Good 'ol Nils-one kool hippie kat! Crawdaddy mag years ago featured a piece where Nils decided to leave it all behind for RnR while still in high school. He played w/Neil Young years ago. Still great!
Nils & Grin were playing in DC the night my first daughter was born, in 1975 - I left the hospital after mother & child were settled, and heading home, walked past Lisner Auditorium - it was August, the side doors were open, a concert was in progress - it was Grin, and I slipped in and caught the last 5 or 6 songs -- very nice memory, and especially since Nils is a local guy made good.
he reminds me of Joe Walsh, i.e., a solo guitarist subsumed into a more famous band - both were great solo

I had to sit through T.Rex at the Alexandria Roller Rink to hear Grin in the early 70s.
I had the good fortune of renting a house in Garrett Park in the late 70s
when Nils lived there. I bumped into him a lot and got a chance to just talk with him.

Classic early-70s power-pop; big hit in the Washington D.C. area, made the bottom of the national charts. Should've been a Top-10 hit!
