I remember seeing this skit when I was little and could not stop laughing. I have not seen this in years and just now realized it was a goof on Sam Peckinpah. I thought it was just Python being gory for the fun of it. Now, it brings even more hilarity to light.
_____A person could start watching this and not suspect a thing... Golly, what could POSSIBLY go wrong here? Within the space of seconds, we go from happy-go-lucky to MO-O-ORTAL KO-O-MBA-A-A-A-T! It's like everyone is suddenly made out of cheap, blood-filled human body parts that fall to crap with the slightest touch...sort of like what General Motors makes. (No more bailouts for those losers, please.) It's bloody good fun!
John Cleese said in an interview once (maybe more than once, IDK) that the whole Python troupe were surprised by all the criticism they got for doing this skit. They did it as a way to poke fun at violent movies, but people apparently didn't get the joke and thought that Python was just being nasty for the sake of it. I always thought this was one of the funniest things they ever did, totally off-the-wall.
_____That's because the English are rather sensible about comedy. Those of us on the other side of the pond, however, find it gut-spasmingly AWESOME! We play Mortal Kombat. We chuckle at Freddy Krueger's one-liners. Though American's WON'T put nudity on the telly, we won't hesitate for a second to put on movies with blood and assorted body parts EVERYWHERE.
Sam Peckinpah did not like this video.
