  • do not do this it will only give your xbox rrod with 1 ring on the forth led

  • I can tell by the de-child proofed lighter that your definitely a stoner. Props man

  • @korydak1lla And then we CHEECH'D!

  • if your xbox overheats and you've had it for a while, make sure the console isn't sucking hot air from a near by heating source. Also make sure that the "brick" or power source has room to breath. If that doesnt work open up your xbox (youtube instructions) remove all the dust and your good!

  • @MayaElite57 HOW TO FIX YOUR OVERHEATING XBOX

  • Thanks for this vid. It was the very first one I ever seen for this mod and it has made my xbox run a hell of a lot cooler but I don't care about the noise. Can't here it with turtle beaches on. And with the help of this mod my friends have actually gave me a few bucks to do these for them haha!

  • DON"T CUT YOUR WIRES CLOSE TO THE PLUG! If you cut them close to the plug, and then decide that the mod is way too loud, it will be very difficult to undo. Cut the fan wires it the middle as well.

  • you should solder your wires...

  • do not do this, it will give you xbox rrod. i did it and now i have to get a new fan and new dvd drive cable

  • Any household wires i can use for this? Idk wat to use and i have a ton of wire in my basement all different kinds plz answer

  • @FMLxHD Any wire that fits will do. I used wires from old PC fans but you can use anything like speaker wire, as long as its insulated.

  • Yea Shrink tubing makes everything nice and neat looking.

  • Nice technique never seen lighter style

  • Are you trying to make an xbox explode?

  • You can also connect the positive to a 12v transistor under the front side of the from dvd drive and ground on the frame of the Xbox

  • your soldering skills are fab!...oh, wait :I(

  • I had done this like a year ago. I got my 360 in 2007 and this tut works great. My Xbox has never gotten the rrod either. Not even once. Due to the fact that I followed this tut. Sure it's louder but at least it keeps my Xbox from getting the rrod. Had an Xbox before this one that had no fan mod and it croaked in 2 years

  • @CodyOsieczonek its so loud but worth not dealing with fuckheads at ms and paying for repairs

  • @SmashOut200HD instal games to your hardrive

i think it makes the 360 sound less

  • @iHateThisShirt thats the DVD not spinning up

  • you make this look so easy, but i know when i try this, it is going to take me hours.. lol

  • You cut like a boss.

  • thanks pal worked great

  • i have better solution, get the arcade version!!!!

  • @creap32 I have the arcade version. It still got red rings etc etc no difference. its just that xbox are poorly made consoles.

  • @XTGEcolditz It could be that your a smoker, keep your xbox 360 on a carpet, or dont clean it at all!

  • @StupidSpawn I clean it at least 2 times a year, im not a smoker, and my xbox is on its side, on the table for better ventilation. And this fan mod should help alot! ;)

  • @StupidSpawn Honestly man if you want a good fan thats quiet and its a 12volt van WITH lights then pm me for the link.

  • Badass. GPU heat sink isn't very hot and the CPU heatsink is indeed almost cold; but there's one heatsink in front of the CPU heatsink that still gets very hot (though, nominally, not as hot as before). Still, helps a lot.

Before, I had to do the towel method twice a day.

  • you can also find a xbox 360 KEY on EBAY , so you dont damage the xbox360 when you open it .

very handy for a few bucks.

i got it with my RROD fix kit .

i bought my xbox 360 of ebay and fixed it myself:)

  • @ImmortalUniverse if u used the x-clamp fix thats just temporary. a perma fix/or a fix that will last you much longer than a x-clamp fix is a Reball/Reflow. Depends wich one you need.

  • @IProKaZ i did relow the solder.

    and it is permanent.

because i fixed the high temps .

    the solder stays cool.

    so it doesnt break again.

    ive got temp sensors inside.

  • @IProKaZ You dont Reflow the Solder. -.- you reflow the GPU, ramchips whatever. but eventually you will have to do a reball aswell if you are on it for to long xP

  • XCM core fans 20 bucks .

    bigger GPU heatsink 15 bucks

    on ebay

best ever for overheat fix .

my temps are 50 c for the cpu after hours on max. 55 c for the GPU after hours on max

but they are running on 5 volts .

i can even go higher in fan speed.

but its not needed, the new case i bought also has better ventilation on top.

    also a XCM case/

  • hey guys i have a problem and i think its with the mother board, when i turn on my 360 the fans just get faster and faster then i get 2 rings, not sure what to do can someone give me some closure?

  • @deathspainkiller

    thats how overheating starts .

the fan at the rear can stay on a 5 v source .

but you need to buy on ebay a bigger heatsink for the GPU under de DVD player ,for best results .

and buy the "Twin core fans" from XCM.

    also on ebay.

then the temps will be much lower and the noise wil be much less.

if you dont have the fans and heatsink yet, you can leave the top of the xbox off and just use the bottom plate for a while.

this way the heat can escape at the top.

  • @deathspainkiller

give the fan at the rear a good cleanup and the wings on the fan.

and try to clean the dust from the inside of the xbox.

the power block also must have air to breath.

you dont have to mod the fan at the rear .

its normal it runs faster , because its speed controlled.

the speed control of the bios is terrible.:)

but thats no big deal , when you got a new HEATsink for the GPU and 2 twin core fans of XCM.

the fans b.t.w. are plug and play , no solder.

    check ebay.

  • I did all you said but I think I cut the brown cord to short and now it doesn't reach the plug what do I do ???

  • @Tjphx623 Cut a bit off the bit you cut off, and then heat the ends up and stick the metal bits of the wire together

  • Fan works, but the disk tray doesn't open

  • @MultiRandomness99 u messed up somthing or did the wronge wire on the dvd power cable

  • get a life

  • hey thanks buddy my fan is running full speed now. will this ruin anything on it or will I get banned?

  • Just so you all know, this steals power from your dvd drive, there is a reason your dvd drive needs/gets the amount of power it does, if you need to have a 12v fan just bridge the two points next to the plug in, it is much safer/faster than this method.

  • @ShotsDesignsHD I am glad that someone else realized this. For those who are reading this tutorial, you might want to consider POT tweaking your Disk Drive after doing this. POT tweaking is very useful for those who receive the "DVD Error" upon achieving this mod. However, also keep in mind that you are also slowly degrading the power of the laser when you Pot tweak.

  • can i fix my xbox if i have red rings now?

  • YOUR FUCKING TUTORIAL RRODd MY FUCKING XBOX!!

  • @Bluishist im pretty sure its your fault for being inept

  • @Bluishist ur most likely 2 years old and used potato sticks as ur wire

  • @kcon321 Potato sticks, very creative faggot.

  • hey man great vid. so my question is can i use any type of wire? (the one from 0:57 ?) please some1 helpp!

  • @ICRMX Yes you can wire is wire just make sure its rated for 12 volts....i have never seen wire that isnt rated for it so just go ahead with any wire.

  • my fan dosnt even want to turn at all when the xbox i s on. the black wire was worn so i soldered solder wire to the black wire. would it still work? btw the red and black wire fan dosnt want to work... please help

  • Or... You can connect a molex connecter under the power connecter, run a 12v fan. and keep your original fan. and its safer! 3 fans(15v) > 2 fan (12v)

  • Ok speaker wire goes to red and brown wire pluse dvd drive

  • I did this mod, then I plugged everything back in, and instead of getting the 2 red rings.. i got the 3 ring! WHAT WENT WRONG! HOW DO I FIX THIS? PLEASE HELP!

  • @goofywhiz plug the av cable lol

  • @AnonymousTutorialz kk its fixed.. thanks anyways.

  • 100th like!!

  • iv'e had this mod for over 5months now it still works great no over heating whats so ever itouch the back of my xbox after an 1hour of gameplay and it still rus cold totally recommended thanks man :)

  • @AnonymousTutorialz hey wat type of wire (the one from 0:57) did u use to do this mod? i need help on doing this. can i use any type of wire?.

  • If I do this mod, can I still attach LED's to my xbox? Don't they use the same power source?

  • erm... my cd tray wont open now... the fan turns on though...

  • Just did this mod. did make the fan faster (noticably louder, but thats ok, i like the sound of fans lol, May put a switch in who knows) Will write back in a few days for update

  • @HprSaint hey wat type of wire (the one from 0:57) did u use to do this mod? i need help on doing this. can i use any type of wire?.

  • thanks ass hole now i have a broken jtag . it dosnt work for all drives

  • Ur retarded it will give less power to the dvd drive so your xbox will still overheat just cut the plug off a 12 ac/dc adapter it works better.

  • @adamroxdahouse aye someone smart i did that. and was about to post same comment as you.

  • @adamroxdahouse or dont cut any wires at all and lleave it be.

best thing is to get a bigger heatsink for the GPU , there are many different imitation.

    some are really good.

check ebay for the biggest heatsink.

and check for a few core fans of XCM.

also check the XCM website for more cool stuff.

    like cases .

my case is the chameleon case with x logo on top.

it also has better ventilation then the original case had.,

  • my fan is not working at all...will this fix it?

  • SO DOES THIS FIX THREE RROD?

  • If you run it off of your dvd drive xbox live thinks your playing a burnt game and bans you.

  • Quik to tha point love it

  • i did this 8 months ago and its still working no overheating thanks

  • what went wrong if i got three red rings? Lol

  • @hackingjungle Will this get me banned on xbox live?

  • @xspartanX3x No.

  • OMG.....you cut the wires too close to the pin connector.....your never be able to use that again!

Melting the wires like that gets residue on the wire!

Jesus Christ man.......solder those frekin wires.....please dont do that to your xbox dont leave bare wires like that!

Its an expensive xbox not a crappy $20 dollar boom box you bought at the swapmeet!

  • @radiuslight It's just a 360..a old one at that.Iwouldn't mod the newer one but the old ones you really need to.

  • if you have a computer fan get the red and black wire make sure they dont touch go to radio shack buy a usb cable and cut the end attach the red wire to fan red do the same with black and hook usb cable to use slot on computer or xbox and there you go for more advice go on you tube and type in how to make a usb fan mod

  • @skilledcrazy8 Again that will only power that fan at 5 volts because the usb ports are 5 volts

  • Sorry, im kinda a retard but uh, What do you hook it up with to make it run...cuz i have a small computer fan...but i have no clue on how to make it run. Sorry noob question. But thx if someone can answer it =D

  • So if I wanted to connect this to a pc, do I spot the molecule and join the blue and brown wires

  • Well i decided minus all the negative remarks on this mod to try it out myself. The result is very nice....runs a lot cooler and don't see any signs of the system working much harder. I would recommend this mod if you are having problems with your box.

  • its not good to steal power from your dvd drive maybe you can just connect it to a 12v adapter

  • @NINGAhax i did it some 2 months ago and no problem

  • so i did this mod but i still have the three red lights and i tried resetting it twice n im still getting it my fans are on and loud but i have no idea

  • @shanefrancoeur omfg 3 red lights mean a AV Or HDMI has failed 2 red lights means its over heating!

  • Only a fool would want to make their xbox LOUDER.

  • @southport97 So,louder xbox... vs posibly, soon to be, dead xbox...id rather take the louder one.

  • what i did was on the side where the hard drive isnt on i put the fans there from an older RROD xbox, so they suck in air and move air out creating a steady flow of cool air over the GPU.never had to buy a new xbox again hope this helped you guys!!!!!

  • easiest thing to do is buy the inter-cooler, take out the stock fan and let the intercooler itselfcool the system, did it to mine and it works great plus its not that much louder, to do this you must take out the entire stock fan or it sucks

  • good tut but i think your ment to wire up another fan not the same one coz then its just pluged into the 360 twice

  • I started using a lighter instead of wire strippers in class (electronics class) and my professor first panicked and then looked at me like I was crazy.

  • works great , ive been using it for a long time. Good TUT but y use all that stario wire???

  • lol putting out the lighter

  • OMG !!!!!! thanks this works SOOO AWSOME!!!!!

  • u are a nob my xbox 360 will not work

  • it's work!!!! thanks

  • worked thanks :D

  • doest it matter what of the black wires i cut?

  • @BloodyAzzazzin You need to cut the bottom right cable, when its plugged in look for the bottom right one :-)

  • @CAGGames thnx:)

  • does it matter wa wire u cut

  • with the black wires, is there a certain one your suppose to cut?

  • soooo much clearer and easier than ANY other fan mod video I have found thanks man

  • This is what Microsoft should of did from the get go, I did this my self and my XBOX 360 works flawlessly, it no longer freezes or get hot . Its literally cool to the touch now, it may be a little loud but when you think about all the work the XBOX 360 has to do the fans almost have to run at 12volts to stay on top of the heat issue. I believe this mod would add years to your XBOX 360. Its something Microsoft should of done.

  • It's also a good idea to pop the fan rotors out and add a drop of turbine oil to the bearings, especially on the GPU side. Every one I've seen is bone dry on that side. Talismoon fans are no better, they just light up. Whoop dee fuckin' doo. =P

  • Don't rig it into the CD drive. Just solder it to the power jack connections. There is an instructables on this.

  • ok my fans wont work on my xbox now and would this make them work again and better?

  • @camarolover1982 no just replace your fan and do this mod and you will be fine. if your fans not working at all that mean your fan have broken do to wear and tear or just faulty fans from the get go.....

  • @ak47killer200 well. this doesnt apply to me anymore lol. i did the mod and it worked but then the xbox then just wasnt repairable anymore. so i just went and bought i new one. thanks tho

  • Or just grab some fucking Talismoon whisper cool Fans, also avoid the New 360 microsoft fixed nothing, and with it's vent's it's pretty damn hard to work on for one not experienced with computers.....seriously, what were they Thinking!? LOL

  • you should NEVER do this because your c-d drive will not last very long or work correctly because of lack of power

  • @Sagerstuts Are you retarded? In combination these fans pull a MAX of .8 amp. Your CD rom pulls a max of 1.4 amps. thats 2.2 amps on the 12v rail. WHICH THERE IS ONLY ONE THING ON.

  • i did this and it keeps my xbox cool as hell like i could prpbably play it all night but holy crap its loud!!!

  • @MrZquin same here bro... i got a xbox on Craiglist and i just found out it had this mod.. but i knew it had something csu how loud it is..

  • gawd dude.. your a hack.. what a hack job.. 2 issues here, your using the dvd 12 v source, bad juju, the dvd 12 v source is only rated at .3 amps. your pulling way too much amps for that thing now.. you should ALWAYS solder your connections.. and the way your splitting your dvd 12v line, is a hack.. there's much better ways of doing this. your using a lighter to strip the shielding. doing this weakens the wire and changing the resonance of the line. all bad juju.. it may work for awhile.

  • @danratsnapnames long enough to make it past your warranty work i'll bet.. maybe last a year or less.. dude.. if you want to see how it should be done, feel free to ask for help.. i'm willing to show you the right way to do this.

  • @danratsnapnames Hey, you're an asshole. Just felt like saying.

  • @manlavi90 well, thanks for sharing that prick. lol.

  • @danratsnapnames Haha, nah, I'm just saying. It seems to be working for him.

  • @manlavi90 yea, but would you want a mechanic using duck tape and bailing wire on your car?! or using scotch tape to fix a rip in your pants!

    lol.

  • your a idot that power is from the cd drive making that work harder

  • n e ways i just did this fan mod to keep it cooler... its real loud but blows alot more air. and am worried if the fans are going to break?? will they?

  • Running the fans a 12v will not break them, they were made to run at that voltage, Microsoft just ran them at 5v to keep the system quiet.

  • @Omari1125 leeching power off of your dvd drive however causes power fluctuations which can lead to a fried pcb, a broken dvd drive or a wasted power brick.

  • can you show us how to install an ac unit it our xbox 360's? o_O

  • Yes sir this fixed all my overheating issues, thanks so much :)

  • I shall use this mod and i will win...retaliation microsoft...RETALIATIOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOONNNNNNN!!!HAAAHAHAHAHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!

  • is the myth true, that if u do 12 volt fan mod, microsoft can u ban for doing this

  • @408427 Wait what?R u serious?Friggin microsoft. They just dont like how they didnt get the credit for fixing the RROD themselves so they make other people pay for taking away the spotlight.Friggin corporate scumbags... >:(

  • @408427 i dont know if this is true. just a myth

  • thank u very much for the shrink tubing idea. thats a big help

  • Alright sorry for bad spelling i was on an ipad!

So if you do exactly as the tutorial shows it will work!

problem i encountered>>> When i turned on my xbox I'd get the 3 RROD so what you have to do to solve his problem is to turn around your dvd drive cable(black one) and try to turn on XBOX again! it will work like a charm!

    Thanks for great tutorial!

  • Sprint guys just did it and had one problem but it's solved! If you your DVD drive power cable backwards your fans won't spin and you'll get the 3 RROD. So all you have to do is turn around the DVD drive cable ( black one) and it should work fine!

  • I have a weird problem. I managed to overload the source output for the fan, so I blew up the transistor. I can't use that power source. My fan is a talismoon whisper legacy which now runs at full speed with the DVD Drive as a power source. When I have this set up, my xbox 360 won't boot up if I'm using a hard drive. Can I fix this without soldering?

  • Would this mod still work if i just used regular earphone wires to connect the other wires? or should i go to a hardware store and buy speaker wire?

  • @phobix33 Im pretty sure its all the same

  • Cheers, Just done it and is working perfect

  • Bro this is a huge fail, im lucky I undid this and did the one xboxsarerepairable did.

  • Thank ya saved me bro.

  • Will somebody please reply to this

When i turn on my xbox the right fan ( the closest to to the power input) is not spinning will this mod make the fan spin again

  • @hacker536 you need to change your fan

  • @hacker536 no

  • Thanks!!!!!!!!!!

  • who ever came up with this idea is F****N smart. most simplest and safest way to run the fans at 12 volts. beats all other tutorials that ive seen. smart thinking bro...

  • Lmao you just showed me a new way to strip wires! thanks Awsome vid!

  • which wire did u cut when you cut the black wire

  • HAAAAAAAAA man got some balls!!!! i use lighter too but i dont grab melted plastin i wait it to get cold and crumble it of

  • Just wanted to thank you for the lamen video on fixing fan problem. Your video got my family of "xboxers" up and happy again! Thanks a lot again!

  • Can anyone tell me what wire i could use?

  • @xSaVaGeHoUsE I am sure any wire you have should work

  • It's not a rrod fix it just prevents it. The stock fans are 12v fans but they are running on 5v by doing this they run at their full potential thus keeping the xbox cooler stopping it from over heating and damaging the joints between the cpu and the motherboard and the gpu and the motherboard, meaning no Rrod. If your wanting to repair your rrod 360 its really not hard. I bought an xclamp fix kit from ebay and followed one of the many tutorials online then reflowed the main chips with a heat gu

  • i did everything correct and could hear the sound very clearly..and the rrod stil there..

  • Comment removed

  • uh which side of the dvd connector has the 12v wire? lol

  • Well this does make your xbox use even more power, as if it wasn't a power hog already...

  • GOOD WORK AND THANKS ALOT!!!

  • thank you man :)

  • @hackingjungle what if u dont have shrink tubing

  • lol i like how this guy make i with things laying around

  • it work great fast easy and great tut

  • HOLY SHIT - you are better than MacGyver and the A-Team together!

    Good job!

  • @Teeorie1 wooooow u r sooo fucking retarted it cant make your xbox hoter u dumb shit

  • Thanks man my xbox was being weird the audio wasnt working and my fans stopped working so i took off the heat sinks and cleaned the cpu and gpu that fixed the fan problem but not the sound so i decided to give this a a try and now i got my sound back so i guess the cpu and gpu were getting to hot and this mod keeps the heat sinks cool you saved me from buying a new xbox thanks :)

  • not saying that your method doesn't work, but definitely a different way of cutting and stripping the wires lol.

  • i ust bite the wire softly lol to get a nice cut :P

  • shit i use a lighter 2 fkn wire cutters dnt work

  • i heard this mod makes the xbox360 run hotter is this true
