Chau Sara's installations housed Zerg only after the Overmind was starting to infest the planet. The "You've got a lot of cleaning" meant looking for a cure for the infestation. I don't doubt the colonists were infested, but Hanson wasn't. She did this to herself.

2.Out of desperation, she rushes, she has no time to get a testing specimen but she believes the cure she made will work. She injects herself with the virus, and following that, injects the serum which is supposed to cure her. The serum fails.

If you interact with Tosh before starting Haven's Fall, he'll tell you that he can sense something is wrong with Hansen, which strongly implies that she was infested long before you made the choice to kill the infested terrans.
Perhaps Tosh was implying that she was overly worried. Hansen could have known something was going on with her people before this mission which caused her agitation. It does not necessarily mean she was infected. Besides, the zerg virus RAPIDLY infects people. There are almost immediate changes upon infection. You see Hansen as completely normal during the briefing implying she wasn't infected and hence the infection happened during the mission.
@D1Z3AZ3D That's all speculation. Piecing everything together, it's safer to assume that they were infested from the moment they boarded the Hyperion, especially considering the viral outbreak both on Meinhoff and Haven with no immediate signs of zerg prior to said outbreaks.

@pemahoo Not the same. Zeratul had warned him not to kill Kerrigan. Mengsk Jr. promised him a cure for Kerrigan. And he killed Tychus once he realized Tychus had a deal with Mengsk from the beginning, and that he had been using him to get to Kerrigan all along. Besides, he wasn't all that interested, emotionally, in Ariel, in the alternate cutscene he just leaves her and moves on.

Siding with the Protoss is apparently the "wrong" choice because you get the worst outcome... I mean c'mon... I was making the most logical decision. In my mind, Ariel making a cure for zerg infestation was months even years down the road. She never said that she was close to a breakthrough! Not to mention, those Protoss were friendly, I wasn't about to kill more of the already dwindling Protoss race to save what I thought were already infected Terran...
@Thromnabular there is no "good" or "bad" decision in this, no matter what nothing really changes, if u keep her alive and she does find the cure, that's still the end of her story, and it will never be used again. at the same time no matter what side u pick, the toss won't get mad at u so that won't affect them at all. the only time where the choice between 2 sides is actually different is the Tosh/Nova part, where u get different units, but who really cares about that since u never use them :D

There's actually a possibility that Hanson wasn't infested until shortly before Raynor entered the lab after removing the Zerg from Haven. The Zerg sample could've infested her. Hanson was desperately trying to find a cure, and she might have been crazy enough to test something on the sample that resulted in it managing to infest her.
I honestly hope this ending was non-canon. Hanson just might make a break-through in curing the Zerg virus on Haven.

@goherd3112 Well, there's no right or wrong choice. The reality of the game changes according to who Raynor decides to side with. If you sided with Selendis, then the colonists were already infested. The whole point of cleaning up the infestation is to prevent it from spreading, esp to the Core Worlds.
If you sided with Hanson, then the infestation won't be serious, and Hanson would be able to work out a cure in time.

If you chose to side with Ariel she kisses Raynor.
I still dont get what the morally RIGHT thing to do is because if you get tosh before you get ariel he says there is something strange about her implying she is already secretly a zerg and is her whole thing about finding a cure just an act or what?
@donkadillo the way i see it is that, if you choose her side and protect the colony she has enough time to invent a cure, but if you side with protoss she doesnt have the time to take security precaution. and then she injects her self with zerg virus and then tryes her cure but it fails. though in my first game play i choose to side with protoss because i couldnt forget all the work i did with them in the first game.

But this would have been much better, showing him as willing to do what he has to do to stop a Zerg infestation, saving as many as he could, but not hesitating in glassing the place afterward, because THERE IS NO CURE FOR INFESTATION AND NO SCIENTIST ON SOME BATTLE CRUISER WILL CRACK THAT IN A FEW DAYS!
Instead we got this BS 'have your cake and eat it too' canon where there is no hard decision to be made.

@BurningSikness93 It's the mission (think it's called new haven or something) where you have 2 options, to side with Ariel and help the colonists fight off the infestation and you save them, or to side with a female Protoss to eradicate the infestation.
This video is the ending if you side with the Protoss, Ariel goes desperate to find a cure and gets infected.
If you chose to side with Ariel she kisses Raynor.

@donkadillo the way i see it is that, if you choose her side and protect the colony she has enough time to invent a cure, but if you side with protoss she doesnt have the time to take security precaution. and then she injects her self with zerg virus and then tryes her cure but it fails. though in my first game play i choose to side with protoss because i couldnt forget all the work i did with them in the first game.

This was declared this non-canon; that Raynor fought off the Protoss and saved everyone. But this would have been much better, showing him as willing to do what he has to do to stop a Zerg infestation, saving as many as he could, but not hesitating in glassing the place afterward, because THERE IS NO CURE FOR INFESTATION AND NO SCIENTIST ON SOME BATTLE CRUISER WILL CRACK THAT IN A FEW DAYS!
Instead we got this BS 'have your cake and eat it too' canon where there is no hard decision to be made.

Blizzard HAVE explicitly stated that this ending is non-canon though, and Raynor sides with Ariel.
