Just remembered when I, still a teenager, researched Nick Cave and found this piece of musical Art.
Funny how the need to hear an old favorite leads to another and then another .. Started with The Ballad of Robert More and Betty Coltrane and now I´m here :)
I have this and the shivers single on vinyl since the early 80's. It was great but with the exception of shivers which is a classic, does not really stand the test of time. If you listen to the "birthday party" - thats a classic. I hear so much beefheart in that album and other BP recordigs-awsome stuff.then I lost interest in the bad seeds - go figure. it was cliched to my ears. grinderman-awsome. I'm a cave fan sort of again-comes across as full of shit in most interviews-defintely talented.
Too adaptive? You'd prefer all artists played the same one-hit-wonder garbage over and over from their conception until their death? It's called progress, personal development. He would be a dud and a fake if he was still making the same songs now as he did back in the late '70s and '80s. That would be the front - writing music that doesn't reflect his feeling, or the general mood of the time.
@aasiempre Oh shut the hell up, yeah artist should play music they started otherwise it's faking, look at the fuc..ing metallica, they play shit now same as Nick Cave, The Boys Next Doors music is eons better than Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds!
@AORCrazy All right, go and tell Nick that he should forever be in his early 20s, emotionally and therefore musically. Sod evolution, long live stagnation! Faking is acting like something you no longer are.
@aasiempre Well put! 35 years is a long time to make music & if you didn't develop in that time you'd have to have lived a realy dull life. I hope I'm not writing & performing the same style in 30 years as I am now!
underrated and unheard of... there fans really understand music. whether the boys, the birthday, or the seeds. i'm glad that this music is kept a secret.
Is it me or does the album cover have an ancient 19th century feel to it?

@lilloboss agree with ya! (fan-boy set didn't dig your comment I see). no self-critical faculty. petulant, self-congratulatory c-nt.

Yeah, that sounds pretty much like Nick, always seeing himself in other people's words.
Didn't he release an album called Drunk on Dryden's Blood? Or was it Pope? I always get those two mixed up.

@polistyrenejassband Heheh, if this sounds like China girl, maybe Bowie copied it.
