I'm a competitive lifter at a good level for those of you that are like me (started lifting late in live and have a full time job during the week)
be under no illusion, these guys are selected, chosen, picked, from a very young age 10 at the most, and all they do is train, they are full time athletes. Their government pays them to train. This is why they are so far beyond (oh and also a lot of roids but that is another discussion) but that is why they are so far beyond what seems possible
yesterday i did 205lbs(clean and jerk) in gym and everyone was like WOW dude you are awesome and my body weight is 187lbs looking at real masters of art i feel awful :(
@eskieclunge Ken Patera once remarked, after Rigert and Alexeev bombed out, maybe it was also with Ivanchenko in Paris, when Ivanchenko failed a 380 "press," that "perhaps their supply of drugs was curtailed." I wish someone would put up a site and DOCUMENT if they can (!!!) a list of top lifters known to never have taken dianabol or other drug. I was FLAMED at Go Heavy just for ASKING about Ike Berger!!! ALL I DID WAS ASK!!! So let the experts out there put up a site & DOCUMENT if they can
Someone like this would easily win at UFC after six months training, due to the smashing strength he has. But he will sensibly conserve his energies for his chosen sport.
@mikestar30 There is no interest in arguing over this. I've seen martial arts guys humiliated by stronger men with no training. My statement stands. He'd have his way with most of them after 6 months of "pointers." I am surprised at the modest strength so many of the fighters have. On the other hand, ads about the 97lb woman who paralyzed a 300lb bully because she knows techniques are sure a laugh. With his leg strength, straight kick to knee ends a career. So reply, but that's the story.
@skirts365 Would you like to explain why Pudzianowski got absolutely embarrassed by Sylvia then? I would like to know where you've seen these guys get embarrassed by stronger men cause I guarantee they aren't very skilled to begin with. Bottom line he's a freaky good athlete but it would take years training with top partners and coaches for him to have a chance with anyone decent. Just enjoy the lift and don't bring up what ifs that you know nothing about.
@mikestar30 He lost due to low oxygen inexperience & reach disadvantage & TS likely has a lot of strength too. Years I disagree with 6 months more likely. On other hand, your fighters could have no chance to negotiate those weights since their genetics are inferior for top strength. I've known types allege the more strength you have the worse your odds become what a silly concept. Goldberg for ex was hellaciously strong/explosive (not now) he would have bulldozed Sylvia so easily. (E-N-D)!
@skirts365 Strength means nothing without positioning and technique which takes years to learn. I'm fully aware that most guys in the ufc would not lift that much even if they spent their lives training for it. But now you're saying reach is more important than strength? Bottom line is he would gas horribly as training for a max effort single is not the same as grappling and striking. People that spend their lives grappling and striking will always beat someone that only lifts weights
@mikestar30 I don't think Ilin wants to sample other sports specialty. It would however be interesting like the powerlifter vs Olympic lifter debates. Joe Frazier who was a highly ranked pro boxer shockingly failed to negotiate a 160 pound push press off racks. Spike Channel showed martial arts guy claiming he could bring down a bear with a combo of 3 blows. This was recent. Ahh, strength I think we all know Lesnar is stronger than Carwin who lost. Lifters & UFC won't cross paths,
@Rogerio34567 Rigert did 223.5 weighing 4kg less (better lift) way back, it was denied due to elbow touch to knee I think but he still did the lift. Later came Zlatev and Vardanian at 82.5kg Z did 230 in training V almost did it in comp. The earlier lifters still shine brightest (not to everyone it seems!) However, this Ilin and Aramnau are hell on wheels.
He had to come out and lift 216kg at 85kg on his last attempt to win his first worlds which was a big pressure lift. But I think being ranked #1, getting IWF lifter of the year for the second year in a row and beating everybody else easily, how can you say currently he's not the best?
Extraordinarily powerful man.

Ahh yes I believe also David Rigert came in at 94 for the 100 class and did a good 230kg. That was way back maybe early 80's or very late 70's.

You can't get that till you go to the olympics, until then all you can do is win the worlds, which is exactly what he's done.

just because he is ranked the best does not meean he is the best. He still has to preform under the pressure of the people watching him
