Those finding some of the lyrics "silly" probably never heard Neil Diamond explain when, why and where he wrote it. He'd just auditioned for the role of Lenny Bruce in that bio-pic, and went to his dressing room absolutely discouraged over his performance.  Not even the sole piece of furniture in the room (a chair) could serve as audience for his feelings. Talk about a song, straight from the heart. "I Am...I Said" is a masterpiece.

Can you imagine it took almost 50 years to get Neil inducted into the Rock n' Roll Hall of Fame??What is wrong with the voters??? Neil Sedaka STILL isn't inducted!!! But some groups that were together for just a very few short years, and since disbanded, were inducted. Darlene Love was inducted. @Pretzapoo My parents & I went to New York on August 15, 2008. We would have left on August 16 to go to Europe. We bought three tickets to go see Neil Diamond on the 15th. However, there was a huge rainstorm and we were stuck in the air and finally landed at maybe 10:00 PM. It actually took us longer to go from Toronto to NY than NY to Europe. We missed the whole show because of this. My dad & I has since gone to see Neil in Toronto in December 2008. My mom didn't come because she was busy.
