Derek Bell is playing the harp in this movie,so probably with the Chieftains too . Beautiful song,I can't remember what's the name of this composition...
For all his caddishness and selfishness that is generally highlighted throughout by the narrator....Barry was tender and innocent with so many women in this film...particularly early on..this aspect is entirely overlooked imo.
Note he originally says his name is something else...but on the morning he leaves, the girl refers to him as Redmond.
This is a scene that Kubrick lit entirely with those candles. He had an especially fast lens built for it. Too bad Ryan O'Neal is such a terrible actor. All the passion of a two by four!
The traditional Irish tune playing in the background is called Women of Ireland. It's performed by Sean O'Riada with Derek Bell on the harp. Magical!

This is not a "woman of Ireland." This is a German woman. Barry was serving on the Continent at the time of this scene.

Kubrick probably made the baby do 50 takes.

Could this masterpiece be published in blueray? Would it get better image quality ?
Engaze 1 month ago
@EngNearly The image quality is exactly the way Stanley wanted it. And one of the reasons why so many love the movie. Zeiss lenses...

I think he was in Germany (Prussia) in this scene! She is beautiful indeed! The actress is Diana Körner.

this entire movie's lighting was used by natural light only. no lighting kits! just candlelight and sunlight.

She wasn't Irish in the movie. Her character was German or Prussian.

I like the 'acting' on the part of the baby. The shot starting at 1:46 is so poetic; on of the best in the movie IMO.

Seems like a great movie. Thanks for sharing. The girl should feed her baby first then get her groove on, my goodness.
