@saxaphonestudios Look at the front of the way — see those two little holes? Behind those are 2 mini pots. Get a tiny screwdriver and trying tweak them a bit. I've heard of several people "fixing" them that way.
If it's not that, if might be something as simple as a loose/bad switch or something. Or it could be broke... LOL!
i have one of these. I'm not a huge wah fan, but this beats the crap out of those traditional crybabies. It's very clean, tweakable (has two adjustable trim pots inside) and wont wear out...ever. Because the wah trim pot ir replaced with a really wierd construction that lasts forever. Cons? It's not true-bypass. (if thats really a con)
Try the fFox fuzz, wah, volume, octive pedal. It is the bomb. Mine is yellow. 4 different wah sounds fuzz and octive sounds. the volume can be used to make tremolo sounds too.
Mine died, but ut was great while it lasted. I'm trying have it resurrected. It's hard when one buys something from ebay that looks mint on the out side and breaks two weeks later for no apparent reason.
@rleary1 First I must congratulate you on the very creative way to write a link, and I thank you for the effort. However, you are far too late. When I said "I'm trying have it resurrected", I meant that I had contacted Paul (the guy who wrote the object of your link) about checking it out to see if he could fix it for me. In fact the "DOD FX-17 -- Troubleshooting & Repair" section of the site now exists because I sent him my malfunctioning FX-17 and he fixed it for me.
@jonnda I had to get creative to write the URL & thanks. I've always had a crybaby & just bought one of these on ebay last night. What was the problem with yours out of curiousity? (incase mine every has problems)
@rleary1 The details are well documented on the DIYguitarist site, but in a nutshell one or two of the IC's went bad. This malfunction caused the effect to get stuck in one place, jump around wildly, or not work at all. Paul replaced both chips with NOS chips found on ebay, installed chip sockets, and proceeded to replace all the electrolytic capacitors to help ensure another 20 years of proper operation. I'd recommended hunting down a spare chip set just in case.
I had one of these pedals before but lost it. This is probably the clearest/ best wah pedal on the market. I gave away so many cry baby's and vox because the range was so weak especially when effects were applied but this fx-17 is awsome.
OOPS! I forgot to mention this is a mod I was talking about. It's super simple just disconnect the bypass wires to the heel switch and run the wires from the wah/volume switch to it.
DOD doesnt offer this pedal anymore, but a nice feature was the heel stomp switch that switched from wah to volume, and back. The active volume control is flawless.
That's odd, the heel switch on mine is just a bypass switch. With mine the only way to go form vol to wah is with a switch mounted on the side. Not sure I'd want the heel switch to go from wah to vol and visa because as you come from wah to volume, the volume's going to be off until you rock the pedal forward again.
Learn how to USE a wah before you demo it... what a waste of time!

@Fhortress There is way to do that, I believe — but I'm not sure how. Try Googling it.

Either way, worth investigating a bit.
