I wonder if the fire spinning on the beach, if the background is actually green screened. If it's not then that was really an insane backdrop for the fire spinning but i think it looks green screened perhaps

@Uyan Well, it could easily be green screened. if you watch the video, at no point do the waves ever come close to him nor does the background appear to be changed in any way when he moves. So it wouldn't be a bad thing to question it, either way it's a great video but it could easily be a good bit of green screening on a filmed section of beach too. The section of beach wouldnt even nessissarily be in taiwan, nothing from the video would suggest that it was filmed there.

so where did poi dance originate?

@deduzz It originated in New Zealand created by the Maori inhabitants, poi being Maori for ball. They weren't set on fire though - the males used it as a weapon training aid and the women used it to keep their joints supple, later in waiata (story told in song dance and poi) passing teachings down to younger generations to help ensure the culture was kept alive, it's now just women who do the traditional Maori poi in waiaitas although modern poi is practiced by male and female.

@deduzz no worries, it's something I'm really interested in. They'd keep the joints supple by using the repetitive movements in spinning the poi and dancing, mainly the hands, wrists elbows and shoulders, the ones valued most for things like cooking and weaving etc, the dancing and spinning poi was and still is a great form of exercise and there are loads of awesome videos on here of traditional Maori waiatas with the women spinning poi. E Rere Taku Poi is a good example :)
