Y'know, this woulda been a killer choice to rework and rerecord for Fair Warning!! It has that darker edge we all wish we saw more of from the classic line-up!
Just amazes me that they have more music. They put out an album a year for 6 years straight with Dave and unless I'm mistaken, each one went platinum and 2 went diamond. A lot of bands put out 1 or 2 albums in 6 years. As a songwriter, I have huge respect for that much creativity.
There is no question that VH in the Roth Era was hard core raw sick to the extreme. But there is a lot to be said about the complexity of Eddie's composition during the Hagar days. His music may have lost that heavy thick raw sound after 1984, but it also gained an air of sophistication that was certainly less simplified than the older stuff. Besides, styles change with time, and the fact that they went on to produce so much more music show's their success in that adaptability.

Soon as I see the assless chaps, the red bandanas, the guitar poses, the perfectly ripped shirts and the choreographed amp jumps I lose interest....sorry, this ain't rock and roll......it's a shtick
is that all you guys can do on here is slam sammy? i mean, you can praise VH without dissing sammy. but hey, that wouldn't be no fun, would it? hehe. sammy KILLED van halen! the real van halen that is.
@freakyrandy It did seem different with 5150, and ou812 was rushed so they could go on tour with Monsters of Rock, I think. I guess I like david lee roth more because he was always having fun. Almost too much fun. But Sammy was good and had a better tradition singing voice. If Dave and Sam could tour together, why not use both singers in Van Halen? They all already know each other, maybe they could drop the egoes and sing together or trade off. Just let dave ride the microphone.lol
This is why the real Van Halen (Roth era!) is far superior to the Sammy era. The real Van Halen has that cutting edge. Its done with that dirty, raw and signature VH sound that is incomparable to anything else!!! As the days, months, years roll by Van Halen grow in statue and surpass the rest. Their unreleased music proves the depth of greatness this mighty band has. Theyre untouchable!!! Chickenfoot who???
they should release all these unreleased songs, or maybe work on it and release it with M. Anthony, and doing a world tour with exact same gear they used back in the days
all this unreleased material would be awesome to put out! it is far superior to van halen 1! eddie called it dumber rock but i disagree. it was more groovy and harder edged and more rockin that's for damn sure!!!!!!
A new album including all these unreleased demos would easily put VH back on top : no peace of mind . big trouble, voodoo queen, let´s get rocking , get the show on the road , light in the sky , wanna be your lover , all my faves ; Would crush any shit called bon jovi , poison , cindirela, and many ohers !
you´re right man , I reallly dind´t mean otherwise , The Mighty VAN HALEN will remain to be the Greatest American RR Band for ever , no matter what , jaja
@motleycrue24 what do you mean by "on he track listing for the new album " ? has any listing been released that I don´t know about ? please tell me , can hardly wait for the new album !
@pavonini I dont know if they could play this stuff today with the passion and fire needed to kick ass,............why havent they done it is a total fuckin mystery to me, its like sitting on a pile of ass kicking songs no one is ever going to hear properly!!!????..........WTF!
Supposedly they have hundreds of songs like this in their vault. When they kicked Mike out of the band they asked him to sign over all his rights to the old music. Mike agreed to play with them one last time on tour in 2004. They could probably pull some old riffs out of the vault, put it on the new album, and not have to worry about paying Mike any money. I hope they put out some good music but I will never hold them in the same reguard that I did.
@MrJobu73 In defense of the VH brothers, can I ask you how would you feel if your best friend goes off with your ex-wife/girlfriend, calling their band ‘The Other Half’ knowing that ex-wife (Sammy) is public enemy No.1? And MA not even paying respects to Eddie & Alex’s mother who passed away. He didn’t even show up at the funeral. At least DLR pays his respects. DLR also attended Eddie & Alex’s father’s funeral back in 87. MA aint the loyal, good guy that everybody thinks he is.
@65Magnifico Things are a little strained right now because MA is not in the touring band. Look up the interview of MA on That Metal Show on VH1classic to see what Michael says.
I think you are probably right but they said the 04 reunion tour was because Ed and Al needed money. I was there and it was great, caught the tour early before all their problems. Mike agreed to 1/8 share because he thought it would be the last time they all played together. Sammy wouldn't agree to do it without Mike. They all ended up traveling on serperate planes, VH's on one and Sammy and Mike on the other.
@MrJobu73 Thanks for the info. Well, they all probably have mansions, Lamborghinis, and lots of expenses, children, but man 4 or 5 platinum albums would cover it, you would think. Kip Winger said that after 2 platinum albums Winger had just broken about even because of the cost of producing 2 albums. Def Leppard spent a year on studio time making Hysteria.
@vetmusician I think it's because Eddie is trying to "evolve" as a guitarist, and play new stuff every album. I read an interview with Eddie after Hagar joined the band. He said Dancing in the Streets and Pretty Women were pushed on him by Dave. He said " I've played enough cover tunes now, I just want to make my own music now. Notice there are not many cover tunes since dave left in 1985.
vhfanjack , don´t you think the right name for this song is more likely to be " peace of mind and not " piece of mind , just guessing , it makes more sense !
lol, nup, its called piece of mind...i download whatever i find (dont worry, i buy official cd's), but ive only got two thing from the guitarman session, which is this, and the eruption outakke
vhfanjack , as I told you before , you´re my hero man , this other tune , as always , is unbelievably and extremely AMAZING , what the hell crosses this guys´ mind to put aside some high quality stuff like this , I´ll keep looking forward to some more good material from you Man , look for GUITAR MAN PART 2 this guy garygalaxy sent to private , it is a pure guitar instrumental from the 1984 era , some warmig-up for Eddie, ROCK ON !
Anybody know where i can find that pic of Dave holding a joint up at 0:57 ???
