to add more work to all the great work you guys do for helping us keep our music so close to our hearts, can we have lyrics whenever possible. thank you so much! Love you in Jesus' name.
i wish i was born then to be there at my aunt sister funeral' clara ward was such an amazing singer. i wonder if any of ward desendant still carry on that mantel
I am just discovering this Jewell of gospel music recently. I am loving each selection I download. This was before my time, but I still enjoy every note.
Any suggestions out there on websites or other sources where I can learn more about the Ward Singers? Any input would be appreciated. I will be adding their music to my library of songs, but I would like to know a little history when I get more time to research this rich legacy that I just learned about recently. Wikeped dont count
thank you for this. i really am enjoying these songs. did clara write the day is past and gone? i heard aretha sang it at her funeral. i know ree must have been crushed. i love arethas version, when she is 14 years old. so much power obviously she was displaying her influence by clara and sam cooke.
I was just thinking of Barry and the Met Choir of Philly as I listened to this. On a sidenote I was talking to my grandfather and him and my grandfather both attended Ruth Davis funeral @ Cornerstone BC here in Philly and said it was the way that saints should be sent home. Great post!!
You and my sister are on the same beat, b/c she said that to me a while ago.
The arrangement of "That's Enough, That's All I Need" that Barry Currington does is actually Clara Ward's arrangment. If you go to my TRIBUTE TO CLARA WARD Part II, you'll be able to hear it.
J. W. Alexander, former manager of The Pilgrim Travelers and Sam Cooke's partner in SAR Records, produced the last sessions. He told me that most of the album was complete. To be literal, Clara's last recording is the live concert she performed two weeks before her death.
Always loved the way Clara phrases "I just walk up to the teller, fall down on my bended knees."
That Afro-Cuban beat had already been used by Mahalia, Rosetta Tharpe and Marie Knight. But they didn't have W. Herbert Brewster writing lyrics for them!
Thanks for posting this. Your fans will also enjoy Clara's last records, "Thank You Jesus" and "Will the Circle Be Unbroken," released on United Artists. Don't know if the whole album was ever released.
Believe it or not, I do not have "Will The Circle Be Unbroken." However, I do have the song "Lean On Me," which is on the other side of "Will The Circle Be Unbroken" 45. I know 2 people who have the song, but I'm unable to acquire the songs from them at this time.
The album wasn't released, and it was told to me that Clara passed away before all of the songs were completed for the album.
In reference to "Thank You Jesus (For Coming In My Life)," I have a recording of that on the Nashboro label, which came from the album titled ESSENCE, and she's with Charles May's choir. I don't know if that's the same song you're referring to.

No, Clara didn't write "The Day Is Past And Gone," but it was one of her favorite hymns.

Does anybody know what she is saying after Jerusalem on high?
sbigby38 3 years ago
Every soul should lay up treasures
In the bank up in the sky
Located near the golden center
Of Jerusalem on high
God, the father, is the founder
Christ, the Son, the president
Cashier is the Holy Spirit
Who on Pentecost, was sent.
Is this what you were referring to?

Oh my! This song is deep.

Love Clara Ward! This sounds like the tune to "That's Enough, That's All I Need", by Barry Currington.

November of 1972 in Nashville, TN. John Edmonds told me about that concert and from the sounds of the audience, he really didn't lie! LOL!
But I would LOVE to get a hold of the "Will The Circle Be Unbroken."
