Its a never ending dilema. But can you really say that the stock block and internals of a ford engine can compare to that of a 2jz? Not nocking it down or anything, my respect to all v8. But its a proven point that Toyota made a better engine in this case. 800hp on stock internals (sometimes even more) is respectable. But you are right about some cars are made to be daly drivers and deliver immense power. But not all.

The replacement your taking about with the turbo is called forced induction which you can have on all motors including the hemi. The top hp from a 2jz is maybe 1500 to 2000, the hemi with forced induction had 8000hp, but its the torque thats the big deal and a hemi has tons.Sorry hemi wins again !
Now cars are much lighter and more nimble as well as being easier to maintain. They are also MUCH safer with better impact absorbtion, no more noxious fumes thanks in part to their newer emission control systems (some can decrease performance but most newer muscle cars still produce more power per displacement). I say we should cherish our past but NOT to much for the future is what will always matter in terms of cars as well.
But in todays terms. Both muscle cars and imports fall into the tuning category. Back the i t was about who could get the most power out of their engine. Now it's all about not just power, but handling and weight as well as aero dynamics. While many of the muscle cars from the 60's and 70's were pieces of artwork filled with fury. They where quite slow and sluggish in the turns and bends, and they had an appetite for petrol.
now the most interesting thing about muscle cars and imports is that they both have almost the same identical history with affordability, modifying, and endless races weather it be on the street or on the strip. Yet most of the muscle car fanatics will hate the import fanatics and the import fanatics will hate the muscle car fanatics back (some being tuners) even though they both originated from the almost identical philosophy behind something that was affordable and customizable.
well if my history makes it correct then the thing that lead to muscle cars was the fact that you could buy such a large displacement for a very affordable price (about Three thousand dollars) which is roughly above 20grand in today's terms. And the thing that started the tuner scene was the fact that you could pump the most amount of power per displacement and shave off excess weight in the process creating vehicles that could handle and perform extremely well.
rx 7, bad ass car, most evos, bad ass cars, the silvia, is a bad ass car, and the supra will smoke any mustang , and dude thoes cars aint ricers. i own a 73 mustang showcar, and a nsx type zero, sure the mustangs packing heat but my nsx is well rounded, and its good at what it does

Typically their more around 3-3500lbs. Normal weight range for a street car. If your cars weighs 2000lbs is probably stripped out. A light muscle car: Shelby Cobra 427 2200lbs with a big block. Hows that for light?

CRXs weigh 1600-1900lbs stock. The new GT500 Mustang weighs around 4000lbs. Most Mustangs & Camaros weigh around 3200-3600lbs.

I could put together a five minute video on all the tacky American pieces of shit driving around Detroit with their Autozone portholes and wheels worth more than the car itself, but would it prove anything? No. In fact, there are about equal numbers of nice imports and domestics at Woodward meets. Last week a bunch of V8 guys were marveling at a turbo Evo that whipped all their asses. Its a never ending dilema. But can you really say that the stock block and internals of a ford engine can compare to that of a 2jz? Not nocking it down or anything, my respect to all v8. But its a proven point that Toyota made a better engine in this case. 800hp on stock internals (sometimes even more) is respectable. But you are right about some cars are made to be daly drivers and deliver immense power. But not all.

@smoothoms Cool that your into cars, thats always great the more the merrier. But I'm sorry your so confused about the Hemi. For one yes the 2jz is a good motor but the hemi is a legend for a reason. The replacement your taking about with the turbo is called forced induction which you can have on all motors including the hemi. The top hp from a 2jz is maybe 1500 to 2000, the hemi with forced induction had 8000hp, but its the torque thats the big deal and a hemi has tons.Sorry hemi wins again !

Now cars are much lighter and more nimble as well as being easier to maintain. They are also MUCH safer with better impact absorbtion, no more noxious fumes thanks in part to their newer emission control systems (some can decrease performance but most newer muscle cars still produce more power per displacement). I say we should cherish our past but NOT to much for the future is what will always matter in terms of cars as well.

But in todays terms. Both muscle cars and imports fall into the tuning category. Back the i t was about who could get the most power out of their engine. Now it's all about not just power, but handling and weight as well as aero dynamics. While many of the muscle cars from the 60's and 70's were pieces of artwork filled with fury. They where quite slow and sluggish in the turns and bends, and they had an appetite for petrol.

now the most interesting thing about muscle cars and imports is that they both have almost the same identical history with affordability, modifying, and endless races weather it be on the street or on the strip. Yet most of the muscle car fanatics will hate the import fanatics and the import fanatics will hate the muscle car fanatics back (some being tuners) even though they both originated from the almost identical philosophy behind something that was affordable and customizable.

well if my history makes it correct then the thing that lead to muscle cars was the fact that you could buy such a large displacement for a very affordable price (about Three thousand dollars) which is roughly above 20grand in today's terms. And the thing that started the tuner scene was the fact that you could pump the most amount of power per displacement and shave off excess weight in the process creating vehicles that could handle and perform extremely well.

Detroit will earn me as a buyer again when they prove that they can last like Japan's cars can. I know many people who still say Detroit builds nothing but junk; which is true. They're cheaply built, inside and out, and have little reliability. Let me know when a Ford can go 400K w/o a gasket change of any sort, or a GM more than 40K w/o a new wheel bearing. It's sad because I know they're smart, they just won't show it. Yet, their car get more and more expensive.

@ry1991ca Exactly. We all know an 8cyl can make more power than a 4cyl, but does that make it superior? Does a 4cyl getting better gas mileage make it superior? Neither are. They both have their own purpose and can be used in the same way if wanted.

Look at all the new technological designs American cars have today. Well, I can't say new because a lot of them, Japan introduced 5-10yrs ago. Detroit has a 3 copy-cats and yet they still can't design something that lasts. Everyone's praising the new Detroit 3 for their high quality, and yes, the new ones are very nice, I can't deny, but already they're failing just like they used to in the past. I've already seen leaks and trannies replaced and engine problems.......

OK, we all know American V8s are better for power and acceleration than any 4cyl Japanese car, it's obvious. But, that's all they have to brag about. Sure, they can handle great, they can drift and do just about anything else, but the compact aerodynamic designs from Japan are the best out there, bar none. The sloppy, heavy-weight American cars can't outdo Japan's superior designs. Japan wins in most every automotive catergory, from features to technology.......

wow you are obviously an asshole that has never seen nor driven a real tuner car you would have a different outlook on your choice in vehicles. compare a car that weighs 2500 pounds with 800hp and 850 foot pounds of torque to a car that weighs 4500 with the same specs, which one will win? i think it would be the japanese car that weighs 2500 i would really like to see your muscle car stand up to my awd silvia that has the specs i listed earlier

4500lb muscle car? What muscle car weighs 4500lbs? My ½ ton 4wd truck weighs 5000lbs. Get your facts straight. The curb weight on a 70s camaro is around 3500 lbs and thats pretty heavy. Typically their more around 3-3500lbs. Normal weight range for a street car. If your cars weighs 2000lbs is probably stripped out. A light muscle car: Shelby Cobra 427 2200lbs with a big block. Hows that for light?

@Warblade118 All that really depends on which cars you're refering to. My old friend's '81 Z28 weighs around 4000lbs w/ power options. My old '93 Civic weighed 2200lbs stock. CRXs weigh 1600-1900lbs stock. The new GT500 Mustang weighs around 4000lbs. Most Mustangs & Camaros weigh around 3200-3600lbs.
mcnutt6907s comment is definitely far-fetched, especially a tuner (4cyl typically) w/ more torque than hp. Kinda rare that happens.
