The XBOX's chip has 2 seperate GPUs, on with 12MB SD RAM and 1 with 512. The smaller chip is to render other tasks seperatlely giving more processing room for other rendering tasks.

@iToasterman Yes, that is the next step. But the disk also contains about 5 times more memory than the normal DVD-9 disk. Games can be bigger and better. If they would have put HD-DVD reader inside of the XBOX360 it would have had WAY more memory for games. Next generation is probably going to be streamed or downloadable games since it is more convenient but memory size is preventing it at the current time.

lol i posted here ages ago now i have a new laptop with an nvidia GT420m 1GB cuda graphics card 4GB fast ddr3 and an i3 370m cpu @2.4ghz and it runs every game in max settings, even crysis runs with a smoth frame rate in ultra graphics settings, so now my cpu i know has 2 cores with a theoretical 4 core setup (hyperthreading) stuff consoles ive caughtup with pc gaming just in time for diablo 3.

apon further research the cell in the ps3 deals with 9 threads of informantion where as the 360 only deals with 6, the cell is still the worlds fastest and greenest CPU however if you just look up the relevant information using google and look for the cell broadband engine rather than bash the ps3 all the time with poorly researched information, 1 core and 7spe's still out performs a similar 8 core cpu, you just need to accept the cell broadband chip in the ps3 is better than the 360's cpu.

And the SPEs have different instructions, no direct access to system memory, no threads, no cache and no data pattern predictors. Therefore, they aren't cores.

One is meant for redudency, one is for the OS (XMB).

But those SPEs work very differently than a traditional Core.

The SPEs don't have an actual cache, nor do they have branch predictors.

Compared to a normal core, they are not good at general purpose computing.
