@liebestandarte No it's not. If you like Slipknot, Pantera and Limp Bizkit very much, then it is probably a cool song for you. Some of us remember when Morbid Angel used to be a magic band, able to conjure atmospheres that no other band could dream of. Songs that inspired a whole generation of musicians and listeners. Sadly that was way back, twenty years ago. Now Dave is trying to be modern and "relevant" (and FAILS). He should focus on Genitorturers and hairspray and leave Morbid Angel alone.
@cometothesabbat first of all, ofc it's a nice song for me, who else then??
Well I don't agree with you, music changes, u can't keeping making the same riffs for decennia. Music, and especially metal, needs to evolve, to explore new territories and new sonorities, with always in mind the origin. Well despite all the other songs suck, I repeat that I AM MORBID is a nice one!!
@liebestandarte Metal needs to evolve? I don't think so. Music doesn't have to be original as long as it has a function, or feeling and energy. I listen to all kinds of musical styles, from jazz to techno, and there are limits for how much more music can evolve. I love industrial music, but not so much fused with metal. That's a bit like eating ice cream with pepperoni. I like ice cream and I like pepperoni. Maybe putting them together is evolution?
@cometothesabbat And people seem to have some weird mindset where just because a sound has changed that makes it musical evolution, no it does not. Nothing about the album is innovative, or musical evolution, it is watered down retarded attempt at mixing industrial with death metal, industrial elements were in Nevermore and Vulgore but they were done very tastefully. I Am Morbid sounds like a really shitty attempt at a rock anthem.
@cometothesabbat You are basically everything thats wrong with the metalscene today, turning it into an elitist fashion-show. Even the most hardcore death metal band out there got its sound influenced from an artist that experimented with other genres and influences. Sure, there's such a thing as óver-experimenting, but metal should never stop to evolve. (cont.)
@Agentbromsnor I'm a minority anyway. I really regret saying metal should not evolve. It should, it will and it does. And always has. I just don't think everything fits in metal, for instance nu-metal, I think should never be. I listen mostly to other types of music, but damn, metal as a whole was so much better in the 80s. The metalscene as a whole today is really not what you describe. They are a minority. Go to big metal festivals and observe:)
@cometothesabbat The metalscene today is what gothic subculture used to be; a group of elitist faggots claiming to support freedom of expression for everyone, yet yelling at everybody who's not "true enough" for their club. I really don't like where the metalscene is going with this.
Next Morbid Angel album: "Jack und Jill" they use "und" to seem more badass, and it doesn't work, since most Industrial bands are German, or sing in German, or better yet, almost all Industrial is influenced by Germans. So they fail again.

@celestialmisanthrope One of the most interesting reads in Youtube this year. Hats off to you and it's a shame that metalheads are too damn thick to understand that our music is all about not having boundaries, let aside genre purism.
@VeilsItWhite Precisely. Terrorizer Magazine hit the nail on the head when they coined the phrase "Extreme music - no boundaries". It's an incredibly accurate dictum, one that more people should live and swear by. Though this is subjective, it's no coincidence (to me) that Terrorizer is by far the best Metal magazine, in the UK at the very least. I can only hope that they bring out a new album soon that'll make this one a distant memory.
Ok, I was aggravated as everyone else with this latest "experiment" Evil D (as he is referred to when in the Genitalwarts) has put together. However, dare I say it, some of it has grown on me...this song being one. 4 or 5 songs are good, the rest sounds like Ministry, Powerman 5000 & MA had an orgy that led to a debacle of a West Virginia mountain retard. The album is not a total loss...I got it for only $9
@deadreich $9? You got ripped off. And this song is fucking pathetic! Maybe some little kid hanging out at Hot Topic will like this, but not someone like myself, who has lived metal for 30 years and sees through this frail attempt at mainstream commercial acceptance. The vocals suck, the solo sucks, the lyrics suck. This whole mess is just fucking retarded!
@TheWolfe666 At ease Wolfe, I'm with u on most of this mess, but a few songs are good. The best obviously is Nevermore. I've been metalheadin it for almost 30 yrs as well (40 yr old fart this year). Unfortunately, most of the 'newer' wannabe death metal bands suck, so we can only hope old-school can put out good shit in the future (didn't happen in MA's case). I've seen MA live since 1989 and will see them for a 5th time, regardless of this failure.
@deadreich Seen MA 3 times with Vincent. From the stage he yelled "Death Metal is for the elite!" What happened? Ask yourself, do you want to listen to an album with "a few" good songs? Even the so-called death metal songs are a pale reflection of yesteryear's glories. Throw this album in the toilet with Cold Lake, Saint Anger, etc. Vincent and Trey deserve all the scorn they are getting and more! The Ancient Ones stir from aeons of slumber, and they are not pleased...
@TheWolfe666 Agreed. CF is one of the greatest bands ever but Cold Lake made me ill, I couldnt believe it. CF redeemed themselves though. As for Metallica, they are finished. For me, Justice was the last Metallica album...Bob Rock helped ruin that band for good! Maybe Steve Tucker should make a comeback to school Vincent :D
@fatesrush Cold Lake elite, huh? Why wasn't it reissued? Because, according to Thomas Gabriel Fischer, it is the "biggest piece of crap ever recorded." The general consensus regarding St. Anger is that it is a steaming pile of feces. Dude, get a clue. Morbid Angel was a death metal band. Altars of Madness is likely about to be voted "Best Death Metal Album of all Time" at BNR. Who cares? I used to, and so did a lot of other people. By the way, this song blows dick.
@fatesrush Hey man, you are entitled to your opinion. Art is all subjective, isn't it? Let's just say that, in my opinion, MA has misstepped. I see nothing wrong with a band experimenting, as long as it's done within their genre. Also nothing wrong with industrial music, techno, etc. But Morbid Angel using drum loops and singing "kill a cop," come on. Hey, I'm still a fan, but "the I album" will have no place in my collection. Openmindededness is overrated, and I want no part of it.
Regarding Cold Lake, if the artist who created the album refuses to stand behind it, how can any fan be expected to? The same is true of the Black Sabbath album Forbidden, which every participant has disowned as "total crap," "wish I could forget it," etc. Fans have expectations, which usually go unmet once a band becomes too experimental or moves away from what fans liked in the first place. Danzig 5 BlackAcidDevil (BAD) is another good (bad) example.
@fatesrush metal just isn't the sort of thing you change. If a group wants to experiment they tend to play less defined genres that can lead in various directions like electronic. How can a band keep the same style over decades and then suddenly claim they want to experiment? It's stupid and that's the reason the fans think it sucks. They could have just made a side-project but now they have to face their old-school fans who they've more or less insulted by showing no respect for their interest.
my opinion is that it is a terrible album though it does have it's moments here and there. Can't believe this is the same band that did Covenant and Altars of Madness. What the fuck happened?
@azmanabdula Oh well guess I'll just have to go and listen to Maze of Torment or Burn With me to get this awful song out of my head. David Vincent has become a scene whore. Fuck him.
I actually like this song, I also like picking on the whiners, but I understand why they are upset. I think 5 or 6 of the songs are good on this album.
Anybody got Steve Tucker's phone number? Don't know what you've got until it's gone. And yes, I'd rather listen to Cinderella than this new horseshit masquerading as Morbid Angel.
Chuck Schuldiner is rolling in his ashes because of this atrocity. What the fuck Morbid Angel. Even kind of experimental albums were okay, there wasnt a terrible Morbid Angel album til now.
This sound something like domination left overs and pantera with the 10000 times redone slayer minor sound... The only good is the solo, where the fuck are the ancient ones??? they are not going to rule once more?? They should get back Mike Browning... Keep the ABC LOUD!
I find this song more vile than even the techno songs. This is a fucking 'Anthem" by Morbid Angel? Really? Do they think sports fans will be chanting 'I am Morbid" at games? "IM Morbid" WTF. WTF. WTF. WTF.WTF.WTF.WTF.WTF. WTF. WTF. WTF.WTF.WTF.WTF.WTF. WTF. WTF. WTF.WTF.WTF.WTF.WTF. WTF. WTF. WTF.WTF.WTF.WTF.WTF. WTF. WTF. WTF.WTF.WTF.WTF.WTF. WTF. WTF. WTF.WTF.WTF.WTF.WTF. WTF. WTF. WTF.WTF.WTF.WTF.
You know children, you can say death metal is ruined due to this album all you want, but what ruined death metal is bands like whitechapel and pig squealing bands like blow-job for a cowboy.
What ruined metal is little faggots like you who think you know what you are talking about. Metal is in the minds and souls of the metal heads who do it purely for the LOVE of metal. You may not like Morbid Angel's new shit but at least they put a fucking album out. Did you put out any albums this year? no. Shut up.
@dionysus91 What ruined metal is little douche bags like you who can't respect other people's opinions.
Those new crappy bands like blow-job for a cowboy and whiteCRAPel are just crappy bands that their only appeal isn't really talent, its something to senselessly mosh to. Pick up a guitar, tune down to drop G-tuning and go chuck chuck chuck doesn't require talent.
P.S. I never said I didn't like the new Morbid Angel
And yes I have released an album, it was for sale in a local shop.
@TheTriviumhead Death Metal was never ruined, there's always a band somewhere still playing it right. You just have to search for it instead of simply listening to the bigger names labels tag as "Death Metal". Also, I'm not sure how some people can say that a certain genre is ruined due to one album, at worst it's only the band in question that's ruined, not what it used to play.
@TheTriviumhead So I have a theory. With every new generation of metal, there is always the old school metal fans from the generation before who will remain butthurt because the bands don't sound like the ones they grew up with. There are also the kids who have the mentality of the old guys, like yourself. I bet when death metal emerged there was a whole lot of thrash fans who complained about it. In 10-15 years Whitechapel will be gods, and this album will still suck.... Also lol at your name.
It doesnt matter who made this album it would still be terrible. THIS IS SHITTY MUSIC. It has nothing to do with it being a letdown because of the morbid angel name it has everything to do with this being sell-out garbage that sounds more like a rammstein record than legitimate metal.
After listening to this album for about 20 times now it has ground on me I understand lots of people don't like it, but this album for me its a solid 8/10!!
There were some let downs like "Radikult" and "Destructos VS The Earth" but i guess I am one of the fewthat enjoy this album for the most part. I think its brilliant!!
To school to learn the history and evolution of musical styles, and not to criticize without any clue. Do not forget the kids that blaspheme on one of the most unique and influential bands in the mainstream which is death metal. MA is a timeless band, musically goes far, far from inexperienced and unfamiliar tastes musically, which is why this album is not understood by dilettantes and amateurs who woke up and began to listen to the MA in the late 90s or early in the new century.
Fuck!!!Whore we all criticize M A?! assholes have forgotten that the MA has always experimented? Get back 20 years back and not 5 years. Besides, half the kids there or was not, or will come out of the womb as Morbid Angel ruled, and even recorded with Laibach. I'm talking about the years when it headbegging and went to their concerts with classical albums 1, 2 and 3 (late 80th, early 90th).
I honestly don't get what everyone is bitching about. "If it weren't Morbid Angel it would be good" What the fuck does that mean? It has some weird moments, yes, but at the end of the day it's fuckin' heavy. Altars of Madness was 20 years ago. If that's all they kept writing no one would give a shit about them. I'm not a MA fanboy by any means, but damn this isn't as bad as everyone made it out to be.
At least the album has some good solos, I guess, but the vocals, lyrics, riffs, drums, electronics, layout, promotion, album title, song titles, and David Vincent's botox all fucking suck.
@blewcheer What? This song is INSANE! Look at it from a musical perspective for all ears not only death metal followers and practitioners. It sounds like a movie song it would go good with a Hellboy like thing....lol. oh well man to each their own opinion. Morbid Angel has always broken new ground and their songs are now free to roam for every type of listener and they are just being real.
@7REDDRACO7 They aren't "breaking new ground" here whatsoever. They just sound like a bunch of out-of-touch assholes. They are being "real" gay, that's for sure. I hope the ghost of Seth Putnam teabags David Vincent in his sleep.
@7REDDRACO7 They aren't "breaking new ground" here whatsoever. They just sound like a bunch of out-of-touch assholes. They are being "real" gay, that's for sure. I hope the ghost of Seth Putnam teabags David Vincent in his sleep.
I fucking love this track, and the album is excellent, even if the electronica doesn't exactly fit in at first, the tracks are very good. Sure, I was a bit flummoxed and flabbergasted at first, even though I read several not-so-flattering reviews, but it's a whopper of an album and 100% Morbid Angel as well. Fan since '89 and will remain so. Hail Morbid Angel!
@LordHines420 Nothing is Not from Formulas also happens to feature strummed chords. In fact, it's not uncommon for a death metal band to occasionally have strummed chords in sections of certain songs.
Hell, grindcore is almost pretty much entirely made up of strummed chords.
@kethel2008 fuck off. this song is pure morbid angel anyday: heavy, technical and crunchy. I love haters, as I loved those who said "Elements" was a bad album, etc...
@johnyboy1977 umm how about you fuck off. elements? what does this have to do with anything? and how is this song "pure morbid angel"? it sounds like a death metal band trying to be like queen which is just sad. i love morbid angel, but most of this new album is crap.
@kethel2008 trey's solos sound like trey's solos right away, sandoval's drumming sounds like sandoval's drumming... morbid angel, alright. On the other hand, "Elements" was a step forward in progressive music, a total masterpiece, a step forward.I don't consider this one to be a hell of an album, BUT is a step forward in my opinion.
@johnyboy1977 ummm pete sandoval isn't on the this record, he had back surgery and couldn't play. tim yeung is on drums which is why the drums don't sound quiet as good. but the drums are only a small portion of what is wrong with this record.
@kethel2008 I know quite well who's drumming, all I'm saying is that drums are VERY alike sandoval's. Drums are wrong?! What else is wrong?! Trey's solos, maybe?! The typical atmospheric synths?!
"but the drums are only a small portion of what is wrong with this record."
They said the same about "Into the Pandemonium", and yet it's a landmark. As I said, it's not MA's best album EVER, but I vouch the new experimentation, that's what makes music interesting instead of same old, same old shit.
I am so glad this album is pissing you "purists" off. Especially because if you take away the production value and the emphasis on the drums, this album is actually a lot more like classic Morbid Angel then you apparently have the capacity to understand. Before you even question me, i have been listening to MA since the release of Altars Of Madness and own every subsequent album.
No band is above criticism. And this song is nothing like Altars at all. This album isn't a foray into expermentation; if you really want the real thing, listen to Impetuous Ritual, Disembowelment, or late 90s Gorguts. Those bands, whether you like them or not, really took chances.
This is Morbid Angel absorbing the watered-down elements of populist pap. There's nothing challenging or genre-forwarding about it all. And that's years too late even with those attributes.
As much as I hate the musical direction they've taken, I actually like some of the riffs on this song.

TheWolfe666 7 months ago
@TheWolfe666 At ease Wolfe, I'm with u on most of this mess, but a few songs are good. The best obviously is Nevermore. I've been metalheadin it for almost 30 yrs as well (40 yr old fart this year). Unfortunately, most of the 'newer' wannabe death metal bands suck, so we can only hope old-school can put out good shit in the future (didn't happen in MA's case). I've seen MA live since 1989 and will see them for a 5th time, regardless of this failure.
Just crank the new Deicide, its pretty good.
deadreich 7 months ago
@deadreich Seen MA 3 times with Vincent. From the stage he yelled "Death Metal is for the elite!" What happened? Ask yourself, do you want to listen to an album with "a few" good songs? Even the so-called death metal songs are a pale reflection of yesteryear's glories. Throw this album in the toilet with Cold Lake, Saint Anger, etc. Vincent and Trey deserve all the scorn they are getting and more! The Ancient Ones stir from aeons of slumber, and they are not pleased...
TheWolfe666 7 months ago
@TheWolfe666 Agreed. CF is one of the greatest bands ever but Cold Lake made me ill, I couldnt believe it. CF redeemed themselves though. As for Metallica, they are finished. For me, Justice was the last Metallica album...Bob Rock helped ruin that band for good! Maybe Steve Tucker should make a comeback to school Vincent :D
deadreich 7 months ago
@TheWolfe666
cold lake and st anger are elite!
bite your toungue.
this new morbid angel is also elite.
death metal or not, who cares?
fatesrush 6 months ago
@fatesrush Cold Lake elite, huh? Why wasn't it reissued? Because, according to Thomas Gabriel Fischer, it is the "biggest piece of crap ever recorded." The general consensus regarding St. Anger is that it is a steaming pile of feces. Dude, get a clue. Morbid Angel was a death metal band. Altars of Madness is likely about to be voted "Best Death Metal Album of all Time" at BNR. Who cares? I used to, and so did a lot of other people. By the way, this song blows dick.
TheWolfe666 6 months ago
@TheWolfe666
I do not understand people like you or people who listen to this type of music.
so this is not death metal anymore, it is still morbid angel and they wanted to try doing something different.
and you know what? in my opinion it came out as a success.
and why can't i like cold lake? cause it don't sound as heavy as morbid tales or emperors return?
because tom warrior said it sucked? the guy acts like an ass anyway. too many metal fans are closed minded to change.
fatesrush 6 months ago
@fatesrush Hey man, you are entitled to your opinion. Art is all subjective, isn't it? Let's just say that, in my opinion, MA has misstepped. I see nothing wrong with a band experimenting, as long as it's done within their genre. Also nothing wrong with industrial music, techno, etc. But Morbid Angel using drum loops and singing "kill a cop," come on. Hey, I'm still a fan, but "the I album" will have no place in my collection. Openmindededness is overrated, and I want no part of it.
TheWolfe666 6 months ago
Regarding Cold Lake, if the artist who created the album refuses to stand behind it, how can any fan be expected to? The same is true of the Black Sabbath album Forbidden, which every participant has disowned as "total crap," "wish I could forget it," etc. Fans have expectations, which usually go unmet once a band becomes too experimental or moves away from what fans liked in the first place. Danzig 5 BlackAcidDevil (BAD) is another good (bad) example.
TheWolfe666 6 months ago
@fatesrush metal just isn't the sort of thing you change. If a group wants to experiment they tend to play less defined genres that can lead in various directions like electronic. How can a band keep the same style over decades and then suddenly claim they want to experiment? It's stupid and that's the reason the fans think it sucks. They could have just made a side-project but now they have to face their old-school fans who they've more or less insulted by showing no respect for their interest.

And yes I have released an album, it was for sale in a local shop.

psudeoaccount 6 months ago
@TheTriviumhead Death Metal was never ruined, there's always a band somewhere still playing it right. You just have to search for it instead of simply listening to the bigger names labels tag as "Death Metal". Also, I'm not sure how some people can say that a certain genre is ruined due to one album, at worst it's only the band in question that's ruined, not what it used to play.
schink24 6 months ago

Emanny237 8 months ago in playlist MA
To school to learn the history and evolution of musical styles, and not to criticize without any clue. Do not forget the kids that blaspheme on one of the most unique and influential bands in the mainstream which is death metal. MA is a timeless band, musically goes far, far from inexperienced and unfamiliar tastes musically, which is why this album is not understood by dilettantes and amateurs who woke up and began to listen to the MA in the late 90s or early in the new century.
malyfromhell74 8 months ago
Fuck!!!Whore we all criticize M A?! assholes have forgotten that the MA has always experimented? Get back 20 years back and not 5 years. Besides, half the kids there or was not, or will come out of the womb as Morbid Angel ruled, and even recorded with Laibach. I'm talking about the years when it headbegging and went to their concerts with classical albums 1, 2 and 3 (late 80th, early 90th).
malyfromhell74 8 months ago
I honestly don't get what everyone is bitching about. "If it weren't Morbid Angel it would be good" What the fuck does that mean? It has some weird moments, yes, but at the end of the day it's fuckin' heavy. Altars of Madness was 20 years ago. If that's all they kept writing no one would give a shit about them. I'm not a MA fanboy by any means, but damn this isn't as bad as everyone made it out to be.

LordHines420 9 months ago
@LordHines420 Nothing is Not from Formulas also happens to feature strummed chords. In fact, it's not uncommon for a death metal band to occasionally have strummed chords in sections of certain songs.
Hell, grindcore is almost pretty much entirely made up of strummed chords.

@johnyboy1977 umm how about you fuck off. elements? what does this have to do with anything? and how is this song "pure morbid angel"? it sounds like a death metal band trying to be like queen which is just sad. i love morbid angel, but most of this new album is crap.
kethel2008 9 months ago
@kethel2008 trey's solos sound like trey's solos right away, sandoval's drumming sounds like sandoval's drumming... morbid angel, alright. On the other hand, "Elements" was a step forward in progressive music, a total masterpiece, a step forward.I don't consider this one to be a hell of an album, BUT is a step forward in my opinion.
johnyboy1977 9 months ago
@johnyboy1977 ummm pete sandoval isn't on the this record, he had back surgery and couldn't play. tim yeung is on drums which is why the drums don't sound quiet as good. but the drums are only a small portion of what is wrong with this record.
kethel2008 9 months ago 2
This has been flagged as spam show
@kethel2008 I know quite well who's drumming, all I'm saying is that drums are VERY alike sandoval's. Drums are wrong?! What else is wrong?! Trey's solos, maybe?! The typical atmospheric synths?!
"but the drums are only a small portion of what is wrong with this record."
They said the same about "Into the Pandemonium", and yet it's a landmark. As I said, it's not MA's best album EVER, but I vouch the new experimentation, that's what makes music interesting instead of same old, same old shit.
johnyboy1977 9 months ago
@kethel2008
I am so glad this album is pissing you "purists" off. Especially because if you take away the production value and the emphasis on the drums, this album is actually a lot more like classic Morbid Angel then you apparently have the capacity to understand. Before you even question me, i have been listening to MA since the release of Altars Of Madness and own every subsequent album.
nickhorvath 8 months ago
@nickhorvath LMAO. ur an idiot
zipper978 8 months ago
@nickhorvath
