Inserting a balloon into a scene? That's not funny in and of itself, it's how you do it that makes it funny.
This is amusing because of the way he harpoons the balloon and then floats up on it rather than grab the at-at as he would appear to without the balloon. The casablanca balloon scenes are great for the way people stare at and interact with the balloon.
Whenever I watched this scene as a kid, I thought "man, this would be so much better with a balloon." Now that I've seen it happen, I'm not sure what to think. You sir, have made this movie perfect.
...this is just one of the many extra scenes lucASS is putting back into the movie for the Blu-Ray release!...
