Wow...I swear I can almost smell the partially-burnt aviation fuel & exhaust from here...very neat video & an awesome project! Thanks for posting this! :)
There is nothing like the DC-7 engine sounds, I still remember when I was a child and flew on TAN Airlines, Even remember when we were landing in MIA at nightime, the engine cylinders were glowing red hot.I sure will be happy to see her fly, Good luck you guys.
As a child I used to save my paper route money and fly to various destinations on the east coast served by EAL. During the course of 6 years I flew on every type Eastern flew; Martin 404, 1049 Constellation and the Douglas Commercials and loved them all. Went on to get my commercial license and more than a few type ratings but even this didn't compare with the thrill of wide eyed wonder I found as a passenger on Eastern's beautiful fleet. Looking forward to seeing the -7B if I can.
Reminds me of working on the R-3350 at TWA in the mid-1960s. Inlet fires were common but these are exhaust fires. You can see raw fuel being expelled. This indicates two or four spark plugs not firing since raw fuel is coming out two different stacks. We used to have a wand we would stick between cylender fins (with engine shut down of course) and tell which one was cold. It was interesting but dirty and difficult work. The jets were so simple.
Thank you for posting. This is a great video. Are you part of the restoration project? Again, thanks for posting. Appreciate it very much.

Take the engine to a Triumph motorcycle shop for valves, cylinder hone and carb tune up.

Hi Clint,
Enjoy this video, but he high power runs are coming next. #2 and #3 are about ready for that, and #4 is not far behind.
