Commodore 64 needs a footpedal that presses the c64 keyboard spacebar because in this game I think you need the spacebar alot in this game. This game is in my top 10 for best Commodore 64 games. Its way difficult to play than the nes version.
@dogcatmouse23 It can be solved by modding a Quick Shot joystick (or any other joystick that has at least two separate trigger buttons) so that one of the triggers sends data by separate (additional) cable to the other joystick port in the C64. I can tell You it works because I've done it and it works perfectly in games like Gryzor (jump) or Turrican 2 (smartbomb).
If this had been on a floppy and not a tape, as i am guessing, this port could have had better graphics, sound, and every thing compared to the nes version, then again i'm guessing Konami didn't care to much into this port.
Argh, what have they done to Castlevania. By all rights, the C64 version should have been better than the NES version (since the C64 was newer hardware than the NES), with better visuals and better sound due to the SID chip (since the SID chip was capable of FM synthesis). I guess Konami didn't take it seriously.
@JoeyJoeJoe5000 The C64 is a more capable machine with 6510 series processor running at 1.05mhz and complemented with 64k of ram and two coprocessors that handled video and sound on their own, where the NES had a 1.75 mhz 6502 (older processor) that handled sprites and sound as well as video until they introduced mappers, and only 2k of ram.
It could have had better visuals, rad sound (restored from the FDS version), and restored save functions (again from FDS), it seems sloppy to me.
@thatguyontheright1 That is just not true. The NES have a dedicated processor for video called the "ppu" (picture processing unit) and an audio processor called the "apu" (audio processing unit).
Keep in mind also that some NES games also often used special chips (MMC, VRC etc.) in the cartridge to enhance it's capabilities with scrolling, extra memory banks for sprite data, sound channels etc.
@cakestalker i watch those vic-20 and c-64 demos and based on what they showcase i never understood why c-64 games always had such craptastic gfx..c-64 should be able to easily provide a nice sonic or megaman quality game
@thatguyontheright1 The difference between the CPU's in the C64 and NES wasn't really significant, except for clockspeed. The whole 6500 line of MOS cpu's was pretty amazing for the time. The C64 may have had a better graphics proc, I don't know for sure.

This isn't too bad of a port.
My gripe with these ports is that noone really used the C64 to it's potential.
They could have been almost identical to the NES versions given the right programmer examples are Turricain and Mayhem in Monster Land.
