The C17 designed with foward flap and very slow stalled speed. The turbofan engines's exhaust help generate additional lift when the trailing flap in landing position, therefore, more power generate more lift. As the wheel touched the run way, pilot engage the reverse thrust and brakes.
the flight was smooth and once we get on the runway we hit turbulance?
thank you guys for all you do to help our country cause id like to see a delta flight crew land on dirt while having guys around the country that want to shoot you down
C-17 Isn't this platform awesome. If there are any aerodynamics dudes on here, can you explain to me why power is increased (Nr>) on landing, obviously this is to do with the flight dynamics of the Wing? An Answer would be great help... Thanks inadvanced. (And no it isn;t reverse thrust... )
@JAMESPILOT17 basically yes the flap system causes the C-17 to be on the "back side" of the power curve on landing. The Angle of Attack is held constant and power is added to flare the jet on landing.
@JAMESPILOT17 The activation of the flap system and with the combination of the thrust reversers help stop this enormous plane in under 1500 ft in some situations. The engines are powered up during "thrust reverse".
@dansterwerecool No, but it can taxi backwards. Then when it is parked the pilot will set the thrust reversers which will send the air up over top of the wings so people can walk under the wings while downloading/uploading cargo..
/watch?v=VH-KDGRwwck - Russian documentary about NATO transport aviation with English subs. Including C-17 Globemaster III, C-141 Starlifter, C-5 Galaxy, C-130 Hercules, C-160 Transall.
The C-17 was originally developed by McDonnell Douglas in the early 1990s (if you already didn't know) so they probabbly used sounds from the CAWS system for the WAP system!
i guess u would half to be on full alert when landing in an un secure location like that or would there be troops on the ground that would have already secured the strip? which would be my guess but let me know how that all works, im curious on the procedures for that- thanks!
Wow that is very cool. Just imagine living out in the dessert all of your life. Not seeing much in the way of new technology. Then all of a sudden this massive C17 plants down right in your back yard.
What a dirty runway..

rdshark86 11 months ago
@JAMESPILOT17 Yes svtcobra is right. the power up before landing is used to flare the plane instead of using the stick.
rdshark86 11 months ago
@JAMESPILOT17 The throttle you hear is from the reverse thrust being applied.

you shouldn't land on Tatooine, it's a hostile planet. Is that Luke Skywalker in the last part? Where are all the sand people?

Wow, that is an awesome video, but when he honks at the guy on the 4-wheeler, the horn sounds like it came out of a Ford Festiva ; )~
DirtFlyer 2 years ago
im pretty sure that was a takeoff config alarm
iflyc77 2 years ago
That beep was not the horn from the 4 wheeler, or a takeoff config alarm, it was a WAP cue. (Warning Annunciator Panel)
sjbyers1 2 years ago
not sure how many aircraft have horns hey.
bodyboardkid1 2 years ago
Actually quite a few do. A lot of planes in the commercial world have them for when they are on the ramp etc.
ndvfdff33 2 years ago
That wasn't a horn but an instrument on the aircraft.
Jakey92407 2 years ago
@Jakey92407 Wow! irony isnt your thing i reckon.
zaphr89 1 year ago
No way, that was a horn! In the long version of this video you see the pilot role his window down and flip the bird at that ATV that cut him off too!
